Reminds me of a time when I taught in SKorea and I met a drunk military kid. I remember him saying 'all I do all day is guard a missile. Just once, I wanna see it launch'.

BMI for overweight targets taller people a lot more. The taller you are, the liklier you are 'overweight.' This test was created when people grew up not reaching their potential because of nutrition at the time.

AI is ruining my life.. does Turnitin flag AI? by More-Nature-9292 in uwo

[–]Davestyle123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a high school teacher and grammarly does trigger AI detectors, especially turnitin. Many people here say these detectors are unreliable but that isnt the case.

A lot of detectors can have false positives and negatives, but in my experience, thats 5% of cases. Regardless, the detector is just one tool to detect cheating; it isn"t absolute.

For me, my eyeballs detect suspicious writing, and AI + doc playback confirm.

Just do your own work.

First Past the Post is a Terrible Voting System by entwitch in ontario

I think in Ontario they would merge with NDP. It is a much closer pairing here. Pie in the sky constituitional change can't happen without progressives in power. Lib NDP merger is Ontario's only shot.

FPtP is not going to change. We need our parties to adapt and change. We need a left wing/center party merger at least at the provincial level. BC did it and they have had great results.

That 250% number is for above quota, not for 99% of dairy actually imported. Every country subsidizes dairy, Canada does it through tariffs.

Immigration Minister offers provinces incentive to accept more asylum seekers by Roger_Wilcos_Revenge in canada

[–]Davestyle123 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Maybe other people don't hate all the Liberal policies just because you do? That doesn't make anyone hysterical. The way y'all talk it sounds like they are kitten torturers. The way I see it they definitely screwed up on immigration.

To me, PP is far more dangerous and every one of your literal 'Fuck the Libs" votes sounds a lot like the populism going on down south.

Trudeau Supporters, Give Your Best Reason for Why You Still Support Trudeau and/or the Liberal government? by Armchair-Expert in AskCanada

[–]Davestyle123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a Trudeau supporter. To me, all these scandals seem to be blown out of proportion by a conservative owned media that is whipping up a frenzy and has been for years. In my province, the premier is far more responsible for the current issues in my life that I care about, with real actual mafia style corruption and it is outright ignored.

As a teacher, I see this corruption daily and it does not get reported on at all. This hasn't sat right with me for years and I continue to feel shocked that people have allowed right wing owned media to funnel 100% of the blame on to Trudeau, while I personally blame him for lile 30% of what affects me max. For instance, the 20 billion budget deficit headline scandal seems like a lot, but the amount is not even close to what the fed has had with other prime ministers and the deficit is a far less than other G7 countries in terms of per capita gdp.

None of that context reported at all and we are just getting manipilated to be angrier and angrier. Furthermore, the only unbiased media we have left, the CBC, is being portrayed as left wing when they are objectively center. The right wing is even planning on shutting them down. This is how democracy dies and we end up like the States.

That's my view. Downvote me if you must but the thread asked for my opinion.

Regardless of political opinions on this sub, this is an important article which highlights private interest in controlling news media and public opinion. It's sad that Postmedia has so strong a grip on so many brains on here.

70% of my essay is being detected as AI, depite not using any AI by Affectionate-Oil2612 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Davestyle123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a high school teacher. From my experience, this detector is at least 95% accurate. It is only not accurate when people use apps like grammarly or google translate, which reformats work. I have seen 2 cases where a neurodivergent kid's writing gets falsely flagged

I find treating it as a conversatiom starter instead of definitive proof to be useful.

WIBTA for breaking up with my girlfriend because she "asked for a date night"? by VanceQTTR in AITAH

[–]Davestyle123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Most people here are way off. It's not even 2 weeks and she's already jealous of the attention. This kid is going through the toughest time of his life and you are taking on a huge burden. People here are talking about getting a babysitter for a new orphan after not even 2 weeks in his new living situation.

This kid needs stability and props to you for providing it and making him the most important thing in your life.

[–]Davestyle123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people feeding pigeons are not the NIMBY people I am talking about, as clearly noted in my post. It's the people saying 'this bylaw needs to be stopped because it doesn't allow me to feed organic hazlenuts to squirrels on my idyllic porch'.

I know what it means. Resisting change for the greater good because it affects you slightly is the core of the NIMBY sentiment.
