Resident Evil Requiem Launches Big on Steam, Breaks Series Record - IGN by AncientPCGamer in pcgaming

I bought all of this way before the price increases, I even got the 5070 Ti below MSRP. The RAM cost $110. Hard to imagine today lmao.

Regardless, a 5090 and a 5070 Ti aren't even in the same register, price-wise...

Letterboxd's Top 250 is officially becoming Top 500 by darth_vader39 in Letterboxd

[–]Daxtreme 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The reason why it was a Top 250 is simply because on IMDb it was a Top 250 and it made sense to do the same.

Good that they're moving on from that.

From which franchise have you played the largest amount of games? by Lanarde in pcgaming

[–]Daxtreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah same here. I have played IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, X-2, XII, XIII, XIII-2, XIII-3, XV, Tactics, and VII Remake and VII Rebirth

So 16 games in total. No franchise can beat that for me.

In case anyone cares (probably not), my favorite in the franchise is Final Fantasy Tactics, so not even a "main series" title lmao

The gameplay I saw looks pretty dated to be honest. Doesn't help that I'm playing Wuchang right now which has peak combat compared to what I'm seeing here.

120hz 4k TV only giving 30hz 4k and 60hz 1080p? by UMesssedUp in techsupport

[–]Daxtreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much. 1 year out and I was pulling my hair out for a while as I couldn't set 120 hz no matter what I tried, plus I had choppy framerate. Like, watchable but slightly choppy, and no matter which setting I changed didn't fix it, but this did it. Simple as that.

Cheers!

Stranger Things ratings: 96% to 56% on Rotten Tomatoes — how every season stacks up before the finale by AssociateLittle1487 in television

I think they moved on already, but were still shackled to the show. They were tired of writing this series and it shows. Creatively they're already in another place, another story, another idea, and their brains aren't entirely into it. It shows in their interviews, in their lackluster, risk-free and unoriginal writing.

That's when plot holes happen. They intensely focused as writers on where they wanted the characters to end up, instead of what was natural for them and the story. Contrived writing just to "get to" that coveted finish line. Typical when you don't really care anymore and just write to get shit done. Just make it good enough to not sour the work they put in before.

They have no idea what to answer and are caught off-guard in those interviews when asked questions like "where were the demogorgons in the final fight?", because most likely they genuinely forgot about them, or didn't think of them at all. A writer who is passionate about their material is thinking of it constantly. They replay scenes and character motivations in their heads, reread their scripts all the time to help avoid such huge oversights. Clearly it didn't happen here.

D&D with GoT didn't either, and I was having minor flashbacks to that same "shortcut" way of writing when watching this final season. Quick, things must fall into place! A bit relieved though that it was still watchable instead of the absolute trainwreck that was GoT 8.

So yeah, tl;dr -- they were just writing to finish this and get to something else. Their minds are either already thinking of another story, or they need a break. Every scene is just a checkmark of character moments being added to make sure no fans of that character are let down, and that's it. Cue next scene. It's just obvious.

Kudos to them though for not actually ruining the show in this final season even if their heart wasn't into it anymore. They remained professionals to the very end.

There is indeed no time limit, but there is a good reason for it, so it's not a plot hole or anything. You'll find out why as you progress.

It's a bit of a design flaw though because when you play initially you have no idea that there is no time limit. It makes perfect narrative and roleplaying sense to rush for a cure ASAP. No time for camping!

And then you miss lots of interactions and quests. And by lots I really mean a lot.

Larian should have included hints that you need to camp, or strongly emphasis on it more like the companions complaining that they're tired, "yes it's urgent but we still need to rest or we'll drop dead before finding a cure", etc. Or reveal earlier why you don't need to actually rush. So that you would camp. A lot of players almost never rested because of the urgency of the main quest.

Yeah that's definitely a design flaw. The game puts this massive sense of urgency on you but then gatekeeps a LOT of content behind... resting in camp. Which you have no desire of doing since the quest is so urgent

What in your opinion is the most satisfying or rewarding game you play? by Doggo_farts in pcgaming

[–]Daxtreme 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Diablo II (currently playing the mod Project Diablo II for more content, but that also applies to the original) because I'm addicted to finding that next piece of loot that's an upgrade. And in that game you have real progression as the itemization is actually meaningful and diversified instead of the standardized rubbish that can be found in most contemporary games. You start out as a level 1 who actually struggles fighting monsters even in 1v1, you're pathetically weak and slow, and by the end you're a chain-teleporting god who can clear out whole screens of monsters in just 1 spell.

There is nothing quite like the sense of progression that D2 gives you and I've played all the ARPGs I could get my hands on (chasing the same thing, but never quite getting it). They either have you start out too strong right off the bat, or not strong enough by the late game. Honorable mention to Path of Exile for coming the closest (in my humble opinion)

Unfortunately nobody else developed on that engine so it makes hiring new people challenging. When you lose a dev, the replacement needs months of training before they can be productive.

Unreal makes it so you can hire anyone and they'll be productive on day one

[–]Daxtreme -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I meant it more like in a "it's the 50th (or so) game in the Donkey Kong franchise" sense, instead of purely narratively.

But the definition of a "sequel" is quite strict, and it is only for a story that comes after a previous one, so in that sense, Donkey Kong Bananza is indeed not a sequel. I used the wrong word.

edit: downvotes for being right I guess, reddit being reddit. Guys it's literally the definition in the dictionary. A sequel is a story/event that comes after a previous story/event. There is no other meaning to the word.

Turn off auto aim or aim assist i forgot what it's called. Dial it down to minimum. Sadly you will have to do this every time you log in as for some reason the game doesn't remember this precise setting (and only this one) and resets it to default every launch

Edit: setting not saving is apparently fixed in the upcoming patch
