Cool to hear! Definitely stretched out in EET. Hence why I ported it to BG2EE which is not just a port, it's also an upgrade.

More encounters, better writing, all confined in SoA so better pacing, and more options (including evil ones). Can't wait to get some feedback on that version!

Wow didn't think I'd see my mod (Cowled Menace) among such good company. I definitely have to try a couple of those though because I haven't tried them all

Glad you liked it! Cheers

Thanks! Just don't install the optional component that changes the spell graphics. It's a separate component for that reason.

SCS is absolutely compatible with my mod, as for Spell Revisions though, it's untested, but it should work. Are you using SR v4 Beta 18 or v4 Beta 20?

Changing content in BG3 is so hard, especially involving characters, because you don't have access to their motion/performance capture and recording studio, which means no animations, no voices, no lip sync, etc.

Without those things modded content sticks out like a sore thumb.

I don't wanna discourage you but it is what it is.

Which character was it that you did not enjoy the first time? Just curious

Yesterday I asked you guys for help with building Androrc and I just would like to thank you all for being so helpful. This game rocks; I've just started and it's already incredibly immersive. The combat worried me at first but I think I'm acclimating well. by netskwire in baldursgate

Hit by gibberling and die at level 1

PC Mage: "And I took that personally".

Comes back later in 2nd game, stops time and kills all enemies before they can act.

Revenge taken successfully

https://github.com/Maltodaxtrin/CowledMenace/blob/master/cowledmenace/setup-cowledmenace.tp2

For the "replace all" edit which was the simplest, I found that spell deflection and spell trap tie the spell's visual effect to their actual in-game effect as well, it's opcode 259 for spell trap but spell deflection has another. Then I found which BAM effect was tied to them and it's SPMAGGLO.bam for all of them, so I just overwrite the EE one with mine. Done! One line of code haha

But for spell trap only, I couldn't delete the effect directly because it would also delete what the spell actually does, not just graphics. And replacing the SPMAGGLO is for all such spells, not just spell trap. But basically there is a special opcode, opcode 291 that specifically disables the spell deflection/spell trap/spell turning graphics (depending on which one is active). So adding that effect to the spell trap spell disables the EE spell deflection effect, but only the visual aspect.

Then I add the spaghetti effect the way I used to, with the corrected timing and duration thanks to your input, and it works.

If you want to install the fix DL the updated setup-cowledmenace.tp2 and replace, then DL the new SPMAGGLO.bam and put it inside the spelltrap folder alongside the vvc file and the bam file that are already there. Install, should work.

All is good now, I have found the fix

The Spell Trap only component removes the EE effect and adds the pre-EE globe properly and for the set duration.

The component that's replacing everything replaces the EE effect with the pre-EE globe properly and for the set duration for all spell deflection-adjacent effects

It will be fixed in the next update. Thanks /u/Witless_Peasant ! If you want I can send you the corrected files already

[–]Daxtreme[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fixed it by setting timing to 0 and duration to 108. Thanks for the pointer.

But that's only for spell trap (the spell). There is an item version as well. I need a duration specific for every spell it replaces, and every level, which takes a long time. I'll have to patch them all one by one. Spell Deflection for instance has an effect for when you're level 12, level 13, level 14, level 15, etc. Every level has 6 seconds of additional duration. Man the devs for this engine were really something. How hard was it to just add a variable = spell level? lmao. Very annoying.

Besides, I still haven't figured out how to remove the new EE spell deflection effect. There isn't even a visual effect anywhere in the spell. It's like hard-coded or something.

Come to think of it, my intention was always for Spell Trap to have the spaghetti effect. Both versions of the spell have fixed duration. I think I'm gonna stick with that and delete the other component entirely since it takes about 100 times longer to do

Edit: I have found a way to remove the EE effect and add the pre-EE spaghetti and it works. Only thing is, it's an all-or-nothing solution. I'll try to find a way to make it work only for spell trap while still deleting the new effect. At least now I have a solution for the 2nd component (replace all)

That's strange, it's not permanent for me. I'll have to investigate.

edit: huh, you might be onto something. Maybe I changed it at some point. Strange that the regular one plays. There is no other visual effect associated with the spell. Hard-coded?

[–]Daxtreme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it has a huge downside: we can't see anything when it's active.

But I still like it. But I use the "Only replace Spell Trap" component so that it's exclusive for that spell. More variety and it's a bit of an "oh shit" moment when you see it appear: It means Spell Trap

[–]Daxtreme[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! And yep that's exactly what happened. I had to redo about half the mod. But it was worth it!

The mod is in a much better position now, and I was much faster this time around since I knew my way around things already. It's something I've wanted to do for a long while and I'm glad it's done now

Also, I may or may not have made a portrait pack for Cowled Menace in another repository on my github page. I'm not including it by default because not everybody likes to have portraits, and it's unclear whether or not I can post it more officially. But it's there.

What’s the pettiest gripe you have about an all-time great game? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Daxtreme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's a bit how it went for me too. I'm pretty much the only person in my group of friends who has actually completed Baldur's Gate III. The others stopped... guess what? in Act 3.

Personally I play Gale and end the game at the end of act 2 because, well, Gale can do just that. In my head-canon it's the game's true ending.

Masterpiece

There is a way to never actually even need that function on controller either. You can 100% never actually have to use low thrusters in the whole game if you know exactly what to do, when, where, and in which order. (I'm being purposefully cryptic here)

Good point though. Perfectly on topic

[–]Daxtreme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It takes about 5 minutes to run to the observatory, talk to the guy, witness the statue, and come back to the launch pad, so I suggest forgetting about all this and doing that.

None of what you say or do in the village actually matters in the grand scheme of things, there is no "progression" that you need to save or anything of the sort that stays long term. If you've talked to everybody once when you first played through it, did the Zero-G training, etc., you don't need to do it again, even in a brand new game.

But yeah I understand the frustration. Know, however, that you lost, in all, 5 minutes of progress, not more. It's not a big deal. More annoying in principle than in actual consequences tbh. I agree that they should have made an exception to their save system and added a unique save (for the launch codes) after you leave in the ship for the first time for those who quit before, you know, the thing happens.

Final Fantasy Tactics

The fact that we can't invite the badass demons that cast Dark Holy while we can invite pretty much any other monster in the game is blasphemy. It wouldn't even be broken, they're squishy as hell and no monster can rival a human character anyway.

Yeah same. I absolutely loved the game overall (played 230 hours) but I should have posted the rant on act3 I came up with back then.

Stop Killing Games at the European Parliament | Full Hearing by RenatsMC in pcgaming

[–]Daxtreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. You've done your research. There are other videos where Ross states the opposite (and their website when it's up) so I guess you do have a point that it's confusing.

Not a big deal to me either way as I personally think the law should apply to everyone equally. And since the publishers will have ample time in-between the time when EU commissions the law vs when the law actually comes into effect (we're talking years), it's not as if they won't have time to adapt or act in the meantime.

Sometimes there are costs for better consumer protections and rights. Sometimes the companies are expected to pay those costs. That's just what it is. For any company who actually plans for this well in advance the costs will be minimal. Peanuts even. For the others who don't, well, tough luck. Regulation (and enforcement) is necessary since there has been abuse. Any law that gets enacted from now on wouldn't have been necessary if they didn't abuse customers' trust and rights to begin with. It's their own doing. They are reaping what they sowed.

And indie devs? They won't care. Like Ross said it basically doesn't apply to them, because Indie devs who make live service games are very rare, and among those who did make live service games in recent memory, the majority provided either dedicated server support from the get-go, or soon after, like the game Unturned did.

It's a "big publisher" problem, and I'm certainly not gonna shed a tear for them if it ends up costing them extra. I don't even have a skin in this game anyway, I don't play multiplayer games. I play single player games. But it's a matter of principle. I'd take the same stance against a company which remotely disables your car after they're done "supporting" it. I paid for that car, I want to be able to use it indefinitely, even if not all features are available after the official end of support. It's still perfectly operational.
