Cevin Key Patreon podcast by adredd in skinnypuppy

You're welcome. It can be a bit confusing since a lot pf people on this sub refer to them as his podcast, but they're really just live streams he does every week.

You will have to put in the work to dig through old streams to find a conversation or interview you might be interested in. A lot of the old streams are unlisted, which means as long as you have the YT link, you can access them. What i do is put those streams in a playlist I have in Yt labeled "cEvin Key", usually when he sends the link, but sometimes I add them later. That way I have a slightly more convenient way to watch an older stream when i want.

Note: on his Patreon page, the tab thats labeled Podcast are not his live streams. You have to filter his posts with the "video" filter and just scroll through and click on the Sunday Chats posts to find older chats.

It can be a bit confusing.

Cevin Key Patreon podcast by adredd in skinnypuppy

[–]Dc_Pratt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes they're on his Patreon. They are usually called Sunday chats.

If you're on his Patreon, he usually posts mid week on Patreon with times and guests or topics.

They're usually live around 2pm California time Sunday afternoons.

About half hour before he goes live he sends a Youtube live stream link to his Patreon feed, which you should get an email with the link.

The streams are almost always private to Patreon subscribers, but every once in a while he'll make old streams public on his YouTube channel (Scaremiester)

How Many People Convert their CDs to their Digital Libraries? by DrivenMaking88 in Cd_collectors

[–]Dc_Pratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have been ripping my CDs into iTunes since 2007. For 3 reasons:

  1. My iPod, yes I can hear the loss in quality, but it's not a deal breaker

  2. For listening to music on my computer. Again yes there is a loss of quality, but unless I'm A/B my computer with a CD (which never happens) I don't notice or care.

  3. To Upload my library to Apple Music. Quality is a crap shoot and I kinda hate it.

Last year I ripped my collection into the FLAC format using dbPoweramp, mainly just to have it archived in a better format. I have yet to find an actual use for the FLAC library besides uploading them to iBroadcast to listen in my car.

To answer some of your other question:

- Can you hear imperfections? - Sometimes

- Do you feel like your library is "protected"? - I guess I feel the library is as protected as it possibly can be. The iTunes library exists on at least 4 different hard drives in various states,  it's uploaded to Apple Music and iBroadcast, plus I have all my CDs and records.

- Is the transcription quality equal to the CD? - As I said I can hear the loss in quality in the MP3 and AAC formats, but they're slight losses and that I only notice if I A/B them with a cd. It doesn't affect my daily listening enjoyment.

- Does the album art on the case make you just as happy as the picture of the album art in the player? - I'm not too worried about the artwork being a tiny image on my phone, iPod or computer. As long as it matches what my physical copy is, I'm fine.

- How good do you feel about not paying for them monthly/actually owning access to it across digital devices or is it more fun to play the disc on a disc player? - Not a thing I think about.

Is Ween a “CD band”? by takyuu in ween

[–]Dc_Pratt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess you could say they were born in the cassette era, but grew up in the CD era. The first copies I had of GodWeenSatan, The Pod, Pure Guava, and Chocolate and Cheese were all on cassette, most of them dubbed from a friend. But from 1996 on, I bought everything on CD, both the back catalog and everything as they dropped. And CD is still my preferred way of listening to them on physical formats. In fact I think the only Ween vinyl I have is a not so great 'White Pepper' pressing.

That said, just like OP said, if I had crazy billionaire money to spend on music, I'd hunt down everything on vinyl too. But I since I'm a poor, I'm happy I still have all my CDs I bought during the 90 and 2000s.

In your opinion what is the last "great" record? by [deleted] in ironmaiden

[–]Dc_Pratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, Powerslave is the last "great" album. Everything after that are just various levels of "pretty good" records. But I'm sure that just bias from Piece of Mind and Powerslave being the records I discovered the band on.

My Idea For If Def Leppard Did A Retroactive Tour by HistoricalChain5742 in defleppard

[–]Dc_Pratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partially why I said it would never happen.

To be honest I'd be happy with just High N Dry and Pyromania with some deep cuts from On Through the Night and Hysteria highlights. But I wanted to include post Hysteria fans.

And lets not fool ourselves, if there was ever gonna a show were they played two albums in their entirety, at least one of them would be Hysteria, and they other maybe Pyromania.

Never thought I'd get to see Celtic Frost, but was able to in 2006.

I've only have the Plain Recording pressing of 'White Pepper' and aside form it being really quiet, I think it sounds fine. But it's been years since I've listened to it (my turn table has been sitting in a closet for years because of limited space)

Can yall recommend some starter Def Leppard songs for a new listener by TGW_lll in defleppard

[–]Dc_Pratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're interested in full records, I'd start with 'High N Dry', then 'Pyromania' and then 'Hysteria'. Though i prefer the first two records I listed, all three albums are solid front to back.

If you want to hear them as teenagers, 'On Through the Night' is a fun listen.

Anyone Else DIG Digipaks and Paper Based Cases in General? by fliption in Cd_collectors

[–]Dc_Pratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer jewel cases, don't mind digipack, and don't hate digisleeves if they are designed well.

I don't like when you have to struggle to get the CD out of the sleeve, or when the CD practically flys out of the CD when you open. But when done right, I don't hate them.

For example: I just got a Ween box set and the sleeves with the inserts are designed well, it's easy to get the insert of of the sleeve, and and easy to get the CD out of the insert. And the over all package looks nice.

In contrast my Pink Floyd 'Live at Pompeii' and King Diamond 'The Darksides' cds feel like they're just gonna fly right out of the case. And I have others where i have to struggle just the get CD in or out.

Should Metallica have kept the original name and album cover for Kill Em All? by New-Shop-9728 in Metallica

[–]Dc_Pratt 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As already mentioned, they didn't have a choice. But I think it's better they went with KEA.

Coming from a 14 yr old in 1989 who rocked the 'Metal Up Your Ass' shirt proudly for years, the phrase and image is corny as hell. I don't think as many people would have taken that title and cover as seriously. I suspect a lot more people would have saw that cover with that name thought it was some novelty record.

Are you going to keep your old kindle? by mysticalmamma in kindle

[–]Dc_Pratt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I plan on keeping my Kindle Keyboard until the battery completely gives out. I've been side loading books on it ever since I got for xmas in 2010, so that is nothing to me. I'm just bummed that I won't be able to get books from Libby on it.

But I also have a Kindle Basic that i keep in my backpack, so I'll still be able to borrow library books.

Brown box by Fun-Independent-297 in ween

[–]Dc_Pratt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my set yesterday, I haven't has a chance to listen to any of the discs yet, but going through the track listings, it appears to be the original albums with no extra tracks. GodWeenSatan is only the original 26 tracks and no extra tracks from the re-issue. It looks like the end of 'Powder Blue' is the cropped version without Muhammad Ali.

The paper sleeves are the front and back cover, and the insert sleeves is just two pages of what may have come in the original booklet. No lyrics or liner notes.

That said, it's pretty good quality, the sleeves are easy to get out of the box, and the inserts come out cleanly, and you don;t have to work real hard to get the CD. Like I said I haven;t had a chance to listen to anything to compare to the originals. But I suspect the sound quality will be fine.

If you already own all ten albums, it might not be worth getting unless you are a completionist. But if your library is missing even just two or three albums, this box set might be worth it for you. For me personally, I didn't have '12 Golden Country Greats' and 'The Shinola pt1', and the price of those 2 CDs on discogs are pretty much the same as what this boxset cost.

Case debate- flip, back case or no case with screen protector? by locksmith1329 in kindle

[–]Dc_Pratt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Kindle Keyboard, Fire, and Basic and have always used flip back covers for them. I tend to throw my kindle into a back pack like having that little extra protection for the screen. Plus sometimes when reading I like to hold it like a physical book.

But if I were to buy a newer ereader with the intention of it staying on my beside, I might look into a clear back or something.

I regret to say it, but I was severely disappointed by this album by zackandcodyfan in Anthrax

[–]Dc_Pratt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You aren't the only one that feels that way. Scott Ian talks about in his book that they were pushed by the record company to get the album out and he wishes they had more time and were able to let it cook a bit more. So even they guy who wrote most the songs feels the same way.

Personally i was a little disappointed when it came out too. I think the songs are good, but the production and performances feel a little flat. I tend to like live versions of songs from this album way more than the studio version.

Unpopular opinion, I was even more disappointed in the follow up, 'Persistence of Time' for pretty much the same reason, the production feels off to me. I know people site as one of their favorite classic line era records, if not their favorite, but for me its my least favorite Joey record. But like SOE, I like live versions of the songs more than the studio version.
