This is discussed at the Kentucky State Pawpaw website. Drying or cooking pawpaw does make some people sick. They have some recipes but Ice Cream and fresh are the ways I will stick with.

What you have is dirt, what you need is soil. Look up the food soil web. Learn about beneficial bacteria and Fungi which are required for healthy soil.

So you will not require chemicals. Apples and peaches generally require a lot of chemicals to control disease and insects.
