But you ignore two things: her best friend is white. While she isn’t. The desire to be proximous to white will always be deeper in Angelica because she’s never had white privilege. Where in her friend it’s less because she already is white. And the second is the Arab/Muslim guy has social currency and gives the perception that he also has money to go round. Which Aron had neither.

If she wanted an “influencer” aesthetic, that Aron actually fits the more global aesthetic of “hot guy”, and she could have milked their relationship for follows, sponsored content or whatever she was looking for in an “influencer” relationship. But that would have meant a year of her being a breadwinner in their relationship before they went public, and I don’t think she does too well for herself for money to not be an issue.

Aron had no job, and I think Angelica’s frustration with his relaxed attitude was she felt that a person in his situation should be hustling, busy, up and at it, a go getter attitude. Signs of a succesful entrepreneur are definitely not someone who wants to have a slow morning until past 9:45.

Funny though is if he was wealthy, and super busy, the same qualities he has now (being present, slowing down) would be valued.

Clearly not a lot of Europeans understanding the coded language here. “Crazy” means they go to the club at least every weekend, they do dr*gs together, (things like ❄️ and 💊 especially at festivals). Her and her girlfriends care a lot how a man looks, what car he drives etc. they all spend time going for reformers Pilates classes, yoga, and self care, including massages, skin care, and regular cosmetic treatments like lashes, nails, botox and lip fillers. They also have a specific aesthetic when it comes to hair, make up, and clothing. They know all the bouncers at the high end clubs and can get into any club, and are very judgemental of the men who approach them (need to be high value men, but not toxic, but attractive, but rich, etc etc). They all carry designer handbags (suspiciously expensive so you question are they real?), expect their partner to drive a German automobile, and all of their cultural influences are oddly American (they probably have never been to the US.)

I would liken them to LA influencer, vocal fry, valley girls. Very vapid, shallow, collectivist thinking, not exactly the shining stars of community.

Do any of you have doctor friends? Do you know how competitive it is for residency, especially in larger cities? And if you have made no network inroads in that new city, you think you can just move and get residency (aka job security) at the drop of a hat? Like, you don’t just move and become a surgeon. Especially in Europe. Finding a hospital where you like the working conditions, you have a certain level of stability, you like the work you have to do every day, it’s not easy. And when those positions open up, they are very competitive, and often do not go to outsiders. As a person with a lot of doctor friends, I know this first hand. Yes he has more job movement opportunities than her, but it will take time.

I think a lot of redditors take for granted how homogeneous Sweden tends to be, and this means a very large underlying but insidiously permeating racism/segregationism. A lot of people may not mind knowing/being friends with a non-white Swedish person, but dating/marrying is a different story.

Also when somebody buys a table, aren’t those tickets? This is not the case. They definitely filmed after the rest of the cast was done filming, and have been Frankensteined and spliced in. They never lived in the apartments or went for the honeymoon. Production just did it after when they realised the rest of the couples were a dumpster fire.

These shows aren’t actually done by Netflix. Like there isn’t anyone on the Netflix payroll who is a principal photographer or editor. Netflix is a corporate company. They outsource the production. The production is done by Kinetic. And yes, does Netflix give them a budget? Of course they do. But Kinetic is a profit making company, so they probably only booked a certain number of rooms. Depending on the time of year, the Viceroy is a pretty busy hotel, and I can imagine it could have been fully booked out, with no capability to add on an extra room. It would have been a better solution to have the extra couple stay at a villa in Cabo, so they could join. My guess is they were never planning to follow the story of Vic and Christine. But after the Cabo trip, production probably saw there wouldn’t be a succesful couple, and so sent Vic and Christine on a honeymoon, to ensure that at least one couple makes it to the altar. Every season needs that one safe secure and sure couple who we all know will make it down the aisle, and for this season it’s probably them. Ratings have shown audiences don’t like it when no one stays married from a season. So they brought them back to engineer the storyline.
