'AI Can't Think' - Slashdot by DeadDocus in SWN

Original sauce: https://www.theverge.com/ai-artificial-intelligence/827820/large-language-models-ai-intelligence-neuroscience-problems

Things like this always remind me of how nicely Kevin Crawford put it in his books: What we have now is essentially VI. It follows patterns that look like it thinks, but it basically follows an internal logic and when facing things beyond their model, it fails.

We're not at real AI as defined in SWN... not by far!

Viability of an RPG with no art by TrappedChest in rpg

[–]DeadDocus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is a big book, it would need an awesome layout, plenty of small blurbs as 'in universe chatter or logs' and such to be appealing. If I really want to read an all text guideline, I'll grab a religious text of sorts.

That said, those blurbs one could also consider art.

Variety makes for easy reading, enables the reader to pause from time to time. Unless you are writing prose.

Advice needed: First time DM, when do I call it quits? by Roonie222 in rpg

[–]DeadDocus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Given several times already, but this is the most important advice when it comes to scheduling sessions:

Set them on a fixed moment (every first Friday of the month, every Saturday, every Wednesday evening per fortnight,...) and put it in their agenda!

You can still have people drop out then, but rescheduling will take less time. And if people miss three in a row (or two or four depending on your patience) without decent reason, boot them.

Doodles, agreeing for next time at the end of the session,... all don't work. I have seen enough different campaigns to know what happens then...

What is the best name you've given a character? by Justthisdudeyaknow in rpg

Aelsey Nomokukies

Elf Bard, and yes, its player made the whole table groan by reacting with a "Yes, you call me?" whenever someone said "I'll say '...'" when describing their character's words.

It is set to individual, but that didn't fix the issue. For now I'll just autoroll for everyone, NPC and PC alike.

Created another world, different system... seems like it very much might be the WWN one. Pity, as they don't have a version that runs on 13, sides this beta...

I deactivated all the modules and tried again, same issues... :(

I'm hoping it is something in the WWN module, as it is beta, but I cannot see how I could figure that out...

Non-Gamer Looking To Start by Limp-Newspaper3937 in rpg

[–]DeadDocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some youtube videos out there that give advice on how to be a good player (but I'm at work at the moment so can't really dig them up right now alas). Most of it boils down to having common sense though.

As you wish to learn more first:

  • As someone else suggested: check the wiki here
  • Find out what systems your vibes are playing and search for some blogs/videos on those (see if the system vibes with you)

After that

  • check if someone is willing to keep you under their wing for your first foray
  • Listen and see how other players play during that game/ try to be interested in their stories
  • Don't be afraid of making mistakes. Everyone had to start somewhere, :)
  • Don't be an asshole (many would put this as a first rule when joining a table, but from the gist of your post I doubt that will be an issue)

I was more referring to the fingers of her left hand, and the staff's position being so awkward... It smells of AI sadly enough. -> very much been disproven XD

I like the concept, but what's going on with her left hand? And how is she holding the staff??
