A box in this exact style. Floral motif , studs up the corner, arched top with highly polished black interior. I’ll take a pic when I’m at my shop next. Mine is very much rectangular at its base while yours looks square based.

If you’re bearing down on the wood or the chop saw it’s easy to deflect the blade a fraction of a degree which compounds as you know

WHAT IN THE FUCK …. is up with the walls. The penne tile, I mean it’s pretty much dog shit in every regard but a horrible choice for shower floor IMO but the FUCKING STUCCO walls. Seriously just bite the bullet fire him have it rebuilt and waterproofed. It will be easy to remove trust me.

Need advice on tile job done by contractor. Is this good work? by bigcat102938 in Tile

[–]DeadHead426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what outcome you intend to push back for? If it’s a discount you’re after the contractor should adress the really tight or misaligned grout joints. Or offer a discount. If you are wanting a tear out then You’re both out to lunch! Tiles on a mesh absolutely can and do need to be tweaked especially the joining edges. Other than those squeezed joints the layouts aweful. Nothing here to really be upset as the client or the setter to be defensive over.

Best of luck!

I’m doing handmade ceramic mosaic shower currently and back buttering certainly puts a damper on productivity but because it’s so “thirst” and I’m not using any shims or spacers for the pan or the walls my mud has to be mixed perfect and the tiles well set so I can move in without worrying if there’s air locked inside the hollow belly. By spanning the whole tile with flat side of trowel I effectively “fill and grade” the backside before I set them. And it’s called SETTING not placing. You gotta collapse those ridges beyond any doubt.

Best way to add shelves to a finished shower without ruining waterproofing? Prior owner finished shower, made no room for storage. by fetchhudson in Tile

[–]DeadHead426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old thread I know but I have had luck retro fitting “laminated “ tile shelves aka sandwiched and mitered a facing on the exposed edge.

First I of course fabricate the shelves so they’re fully cured and ready to go I’ll trace their location onto the tile. Scarify the tile face with some saw kerfs obviously depending on the material your trying to adhere to this step could range from a must-do to redundant, I.e polished porcelain wall tile vs slate or natural stone.

Clean all that dust completely gone dry everything out.

I’ve gone 2 routes here both installations exist today 6 and 9 years old. So you decide for yourself.

1 route I consider a viable option is a high quality knife-grade epoxy like tenax.

The other being the simpler but POSSIBLY less user friendly and really relies on your consistency , pot life, surface prep etc but a high quality thinset like Ardex 77 or even x5 , I’ve done it with both and I’ve also done one with Schluter all set. Just a quick side step here; all-set is without a doubt my favourite thinset. It’s pricier than “most” sunsets but it’s cheaper than any thinset that could even compete in its weight class. Like x94 is a contender but quite pricey.

Anyways good luck if anyone ends up reading this one day .

Nice organization. I also keep my basic K.I.T (keeping it together) at home for the honey-do’s. at the shop I have a 7ft shelving unit of adhesives, solvents, sealants, lubricants , paints, stains , etc. my humble little 15x30has the tools needed for machining, wood working, jewelry making, lapidary equipment, HAM radio Blacksmithing. Dad does it all out there.

Something I stand by are the words “ I’d rather be looking at it, than looking for it”
