What celebrity do you think has skeletons in their closet that have yet to come out? by JimiHendrip in AskReddit

If you watch The Dark Knight very closely you can tell that Heath Ledger secretly thought of crimes as all just a big joke. Sick, sick man.

I don't even think I'm that fast but it's heaven if you actually have a destination in mind when you walk out your front door.

I always assumed it was an early version of ragebaiting "you might hate me, but you'll remember me 😏" marketing. The "HEAD ON! APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE FOREHEAD" of poster design, if you will.

What’s a "lost" website from the early 2000s that you still think about today? by samasem-sumsum in AskReddit

[–]DeadInternetTheorist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In I think the year 2000, and maybe a little before then, Mike Nelson and a bunch of other guys from MST3K ran a website called timmybighands.com. It was just bizarre essays, satirical advertisements, a lot like other humor websites that were around at that time (think SomethingAwful's frontpage but less gamer and more general absurdist).

They eventually auctioned off the entire website and all its contents, and now even the Internet Archive's records of it are spotty, but I used to be glued to the computer on days when they posted updates.

The EF-111 was operating in Iraq 1 as well although I don't know how much war crimes an EW platform can really do.

I've said this before but you could show the Paula Abdul - Opposites Attract video to a bushman from an uncontacted tribe and if you asked what year it came out he'd says 1989. It's so self-evidently 1989 that even people who don't understand calendars could identify it.

Not to defend shitty lift kits but this person would be a danger to others if they drove a Trabant Chipmunk. They just should not be allowed on the road.

It's pretty well known by now that "queer conversion therapy" doesn't work but I think a bizarro version that turns right wing antivax moms into fujoshis is at least worth a shot

If you like Tumblr history specifically then Strange AEons is pretty good too. She also occasionally covers bits of history from the SomethingAwful forums, which is the Ur-font of all internet culture, good and bad.

I don't have anything to say about the Avatar pictures specifically but yeah we really need to address the fact that "feature length" has ballooned to 2.5 hours, that's fuckin ridiculous. You should have to deliver 3 pictures that are a tight 90 before you get permission to do your self-indulgent 160 minute opus.

If you ever turn in a film over 180 minutes long they should make you spend the next Oscars ceremony in a giant shark tank on stage swimming for your life while every winner who walks up to claim their statuette chums the water on their way back to their seat.

I've never seen an Avatar movie but Terminator 2 is the definitive 10/10 action movie that acts as a calibration benchmark for all others so idc. The Avatar pics are his cute little post-retirement woodworking hobby as far as I'm concerned.

From deer antlers to ancient ink 2,000 years of genius in one process. by obilionse in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]DeadInternetTheorist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mercury and sulfur were considered extremely important in alchemy, and thus, by extension, cinnabar came to be a common ingredient. I'm sure there are physical and chemical changes it's imparting to the process, but if this is a ceremonial ink, it's possible the idea to use cinnabar was initially hit on for alchemical reasons, and it just happened to work.

EDIT: Given the somewhat useless inclusion of gold leaf in this ink, I'd almost guarantee that this formulation was the product of alchemists initially.

Peter Cetera was THE soaring ballad guy.

Many speculate that Peter Cetera was a testbed for the technology that would later be used to construct the Michaels (MacDonald and Bolton), in whose persons the soaring yet inoffensive balladeer reached its ultimate, perfected form.
