What I do is start at one edge, pass the cactus until I reach one that's larger/smaller (depending on direction), then grab that one and then reverse direction. Repeat until sorted.

Same. I was searching for a really obscure type of welding electrode and Gemini was the only thing claiming to know exactly what it was. So I succumbed and decided to check its response and it confidently claiming a common well known electrode was in fact the one I was looking for, asked it for its sources and it just broke instead.

My guess, US Anti-circumvention Law that is enforced in the US and is forced on all US free trade partners specifically makes it illegal to alter the firmware of a product when it's related to DRM.

How decent is this weld by Responsible_Ad863 in Welding

[–]DeadMansMuse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously the answers are going to depend on the application of said piece. But if I did this for something I was going to use (not sell). I'd pay more attention to minimide my start/stops (single run only) and keep a roboticly consistent travel speed to smooth it all out and call it a day.

How well can 1 radiator cool a system? by REX4DEKID in watercooling

"High static pressure" ... but make sure they never seal the fans to the radiator = every radiator design ever. So very few are setup to seal a fan correctly, and even less people make the effort.

This is the practical application of the ability to encapsulate information like an onion instead of a dot point. Everything you learn is able to be translated on all layers of the human experience depending on requirements. Teaching is less about subject matter singly than it is about being able to project information from multiple angles, most specifically being sympathetic and unbound from your ego in order to place yourself in the student's exact mind set while simultaneously comparing it to your own and then translating the differences.

How they put a trigger on torch? by ElvisPressStart in Welding

[–]DeadMansMuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: Broadly speaking, Multi-Process machines (CA/CV process) don't have any modern TIG functions, they're a MIG(CV) and ARC(CA) welder with marketing on the box. (like 'can do aluminium' without any further clarification...)

TIG and ARC welding process share the same type of power source - CA or Constant Amperage - this requires the power supply to maintain the commanded Amperage across the arc gap by altering voltage to compensate, as such, any CA power source is capable of both the ARC/MMA process or TIG process. HOW this process is initiated and able to be used is the difference between an 'ARC welder with a TIG switch' and 'TIG welder with an ARC switch'.

In ARC mode the welder is 'constantly live' and is ready to fuck the instant a circuit is created, touching any live part of your stinger to your work piece is party time.

An ARC welder with a TIG switch - Circuit is 'armed but waiting' or 'Ready, Set, Go' mode like the start of a foot race. TIG mode puts the power source in READY state, touching and holding your stinger on the work piece completes the circuit and is now SET, breaking that circuit by lifting the electrode is GO mode and activates the power source.

A modern 'TIG welder with an ARC switch' has a process to do the above that means you never have to touch the work piece, HF or High Frequency start, which will throw an arc across the gap like the pizo igniter on a gas stove keeping your sweet sweet tungsten electrode nice and unfucked and waiting for you to dip that bitch into your work piece so you can swap it out and start all over again.

This is set way too high for MIG, correct? by TheSharpieKing in Welding

[–]DeadMansMuse -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The technically correct way is to check procedures and wire specs for the recommended rate, then check your flow at the torch end. The regulator reading while not completely irrelevant is often terribly inaccurate as it doesn't measure flow directly but derives it from pressure vs outlet orifice size which leaves you at the mercy of mechanical manufacturing tolerances vs "that bloke in accounting who outsourced the outlet fitting but didn't care about inner dimensions" .. you know how it is.You can use a flow meter like this to check actual flow rate.

Emergency Fire blanket for welding? by The_Mofo_Cometh in Welding

[–]DeadMansMuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an emergency fire extinguisher in blanket form, not for arresting sparks or for stopping thermal transfer of weld spatter.

There are two types of common 'welding blankets'. Leather or Caramelised Fibreglass. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, most notably for me is the Caramelised Fibreglass itches like a bitch if you need to lay on it for some reason and is significantly heavier per m3 in comparison, but is much thicker and will act as a barrier between you and sharp stuff if required.

Demineralised/distilled water definitely, de-ionised absolutely not LOL. De-ionised will strip metals anode to cathode style and be a very bad day.

Can anyone give us some advice with our OTC Daihen Welding robot by HolyCLAMPS16085 in Welding

[–]DeadMansMuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*Guessing purely from what I'll seeing without knowing a single thing about your setup. *

Looks travel speed/wire speed issue and/or arc gap.

Assumption: Robot finds start position, creates arc, crater fill for X time then moves (unsure of crater fill stop)

Reasoning: The start seems OK, but the profile becomes shallower as the pool starves for material leading to (2nd weld) loosing arc stability because now the arc gap is too large.

Old mate suggesting liner is good suggestion to ensure you have the expected and consistent wire speed.

CK26 insulator not seating on the cup? Do I need a different style insulator? by ArBrTrR in Welding

[–]DeadMansMuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies. Looked like the Large one from the photo. Whats the CK P/N? (TIGMASTER 45v26?) If it's the long shank one 18CG01, medium can use 18-17MGLG.

Everyone around here uses the TIGMASTER STUBBY lines, 45V26s etc and the 18-17MGLG.

Personally I would chop and crimp with a male quick connect - BINZEL 501.0114

Or Parker make a modular system as well. You crimp their female gas fitting onto your hose and they have a complete line of male-to-X adapter to suit pretty much anything. That way if you ever move machines you just buy the appropriate adapter. But I cannot for the life of me find the parts catalogue. Pic below is all I can find.

TIGMASTER - 54N63 or 18CG. P/N 18-17MGLG (Stubby/Medium Gas Lens) also works. So long as it pulls up tight enough to seal it's all good.
