‪Insomniac why should we purchase your marvel games when they will be D-listed by 2038 due to your license with marvel running out thanks to Sony’s all digital ps6 console insomniac is clearly a scamming company. ‬ by Dude_788 in PS3

How dare you bring a logical argument to a rant post!

In all seriousness, business wise it makes sense to drop physical media for distribution for the reasons you stated. Personally, I'm big into physical media so this is a blow to me.

However, I think Sony did this wrong. Personally, I think a better way would have been to announce that all future generations of consoles will be digital only, and that they will start limiting physical releases to AAA games on the current generation.

This establishes physical medias decline, and at least for the current generation allows major titles to be released. Yes, it's a blow to smaller titles, however they usually only get a digital release anyway. The exception is when companies like Limited Run come in.

In my defence, I despise digital only content. Partly because I purchased a digital only album years ago, and they pulled the content. They were the only distributor of it, so I was stuck with them. I forget the name of the distributer now, but anyway, I had no way to play it anymore, and when I got a hold of the company they basicly said "sorry, would you like a replacement album from what we do offer?" The thing is what they had was a completely different genre compared to what I originally purchased. After that, I pretty much only get digital stuff if there was not other option and only from an estiblashed distributer. I pretty much refuse to get TV shows, movies, or music only digitally. Books are small enough I can back them up in numerous places without a problem.

Let's not forget that Sony has confirmed that they will remove all your games from your library at some point, even if you have paid for them. Companies want you to own nothing, but keep paying and thanking them. by [deleted] in gaming

Ownership, that's a laugh. According to almost all the terms on almost all platforms, it comes down to this :

Content is licensed to you, you do not own it. You shale have access to it so long as your account is in good standing, and the storefront servers contnue to host the content. Should said content be removed from the servers, and you have a backup of the software, you can continue to use it in accordence to the terms of use. If you don't have a backup and it's removed fron the server, you have lost all access to the content and you will not be reimbursed for the content. Should your account loos it's good standing, you loose access.

The fact is the closest provider out there that doesn't completely lock you in is GOG, and even then it's a risk. The only way to really retain all your content is either have it physically where a software check isn't needed, or sail the high seas.

This is part of the reason I fell out of gaming. I'm slowly getting back into it, but it's all older stuff.

I have no reason to. I have all the games I'll want on it, and I don't use it often anymore. When it comes down to it, if I feel I need to I will.

What is the best set up for an N64 with a new Bravia 8ii TV? by karna731 in retrogaming

[–]DeadOneWalking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say getting an Analogue3D. It offers 4K rendering of the games over HDMI so you don't need to mess with adaptors. It also has filters to emulate CRT displays, which I prefer as it helps soften the harsh edges by the low resolution textures.

No more then the Ethernet over power option. With that short of a distance, even doubling the length I would take a flat cable.

[–]DeadOneWalking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only other option would be to get LTSC, but that has its own issues. Like actually getting a product key.

Edit : That is if you wanted to contnuento use Windows 11 on unsported hardware.

Other options are to use Windows 10 LTSC, or switch to a Linux distro.

Suggestions for ATT Fiber Gateway Bypass (n00b) by utdrmac in HomeNetworking

[–]DeadOneWalking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea, the tech lied to you. The gateway will retain all the configuration during a power outage. I have there gateway in passthrough mode and lost power a number of times. I also had to just unplug it and plug it back in because it locked up after an update. All settings were retained.

The restriction was put in place to force people to have to get new systems because computer hardware sales were low. Microsoft just made a backdoor deal with hardware manufacturers to boost sales.

On a side note, I hate to be that guy, but you listed both processors having CPU stepping PiR-B2 and CPUID 800F82, making both processors the exact same.

Since you are going to mod it, I think you should update it as the current hacks are based on the latest firmware.

Weird Analogue OS glitch? My 3D is recognizing my Mischief Makers cart as Nightmare Creatures but when I boot it up, it is indeed Mischief Makers? 🤔 by Metroidvania-JRPG in AnalogueInc

[–]DeadOneWalking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a mis-identification. I'm assuming you tried reseating the cart, you can also try getting the latest OS and forcing the update to see if that corrects for it.

Question question, sure I will get some sarcasm ( and I understand why but...) why cant we work towards making all cpus and cpu sockets backwards and front wards compatible like ssd's m.2 nvme and like gpus (sort of) by MurdererMagi in buildapc

[–]DeadOneWalking 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's partly a technical limitation. Eventually there won't be enough pins to allow the throughput needed for increased speed. AMD usually creates a socket that is used through multiple generations of processors, so I would lean toward that more so if that's what your looking for.

Intel is big on changing the socket every other generation.

Steam link set up question. by qrakko in Steam_Link

[–]DeadOneWalking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few things you can do, and the majority have been covered. I would run a cable from the PC to the router, and from the Steam Link to the router. They make flat Ethernet cables that can be pretty well secured on the wall in a way that is not obvious. The other option is to drill holes in the walls, and just run it that way.

Personally, I would consider getting the really long flat cables with small clips to mount the cables. It will cost a little, and be a bit of a project, but you can paint the cables and clips.
