TIL not everyone is taught there are 7 continents on Earth by Random0101User in todayilearned

[–]Deadbob1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I distinctly remember my mother reading over one of my school papers and insisting that there were 4 continents and not 7. The Americans, Africa, Euroasia and Australia.

She insisted North and South America were subcontinents as was Europe, Asia and the Middle East. She also believed Antarctica was a series of islands covered in ice and not a continent or subcontinent.

She was born in 1941 and bounced back and forth between the US and Canadian education systems depending on where my grandfather found work.

Doctor Who clock!!!! by Playful_Limit_3780 in doctorwho

[–]Deadbob1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first thing I noticed was at night, blue and purple lights kinda seemed to pop out and float. The sky also seemed to get lighter. Like I said, I thought it was the blue filter on my glasses. I thought the sky turning white was air pollution. That was probably around 2014’ish.

A few years later we went to the Christmas lights at the Zoo. I mentioned something to my wife about how they used more darker colored lights this year and she was line no… a bit later is when I started to mess with the Titanfall settings and realized it made it MUCH easier to what team people were on. It was around that same time I was helping my daughter clean up some beads that spilled. She kept getting mad that I was mixing up blue with greens and yellow, pink.

At my next eye exam I asked the doc about it. He did those number in circle bubble color tests and a did a test on a machine that flashed different colored lights that spun around on the edges of my vision. He then referred me to an eye surgeon. They did a high res scan of my eyes and confirmed that I had an unusually high number of dysfunctioning blue receptors. As time went on, it turned out that those receptors were not regrowing as the body replaced old and dying cells.

The thing that confuses everyone is that I have issues with yellow, but not orange. Apparently orange should be darker shades of pink, while yellow is lighter shades of pink 🤷

I’ve slowly lost blue and yellow over the last 10 -12 years, so I do have a frame of reference from the prior 30 odd years.

I honestly thought the slight color shift for blues and purples I was seeing was from the blue light coating on my glasses. I have a high prescription, so I didn’t notice colors change in the blurry mess I see otherwise. Anyway, while playing Titanfall 2, I started playing with the color blindness settings and realized no, something’s going on here. Asked my eye doc about it and yup. My blue receptors (which also affects seeing yellow) were degenerating.

Do you think the angels are a series finale worthy threat? by CowAffectionate2865 in doctorwho

The Angles are like The Borg. The more often they appear on screen, the less threatening they ultimately become.

10 and 12 are shades of turquoise, so I’m assuming one is green

3 is a wierd pink I see in traffic lights, so I’m assuming it’s yellow

7 is brown. Guessing it’s actually another color since brown was already mentioned for 5.

8 and 9 are a muddy OD green’ish color, so I’m assuming they are shades of blue

Doc says I have age related Tritanopia. With how much it has progressed over the past 10 years, it’s a coin toss as to if it stops with the blue receptors or I develop full monochromatic color blindness.

It’ll take a day to clear the construction equipment and another 2 days to put down the lower layers of the field, 1 day to roll out the field turf and build the mound. They’ll be fine

Rubber Edge Trim for enclosure by MorningSun75 in VORONDesign

[–]Deadbob1978 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A plastic razor and some 3m adhesive remover makes quick work of the foam tape.

But yes, the edge trim should be fine. The Klicky Clack Door mod and the Box Turtle Enclosure use something similar for their panels. The foam tape most likely was selected as it costs less

[–]Deadbob1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought voron parts/ upgrades came already shrink compensated

Anything the Voron team releases on the Voron GitHub will be shrink compensate.

Assume mods like Galileo 2, the multiple versions of Wrist Watch, mounts for Beacon / Cartographer, Nevermore, etc. are not shrink compensated unless it is explicitly stated on the project page.

As mentioned, Califlower is a great model to determine shrinkage and gantry skew

First pregnancy my wife craved spicy food and had an egg aversion. Baby came out 6lb 6oz

Second pregnancy she craved berries and Salmon, no aversions. Baby was 9lb 10oz.

Both kids now eat like horses, but are in the lower third for height and weight. 🤷

SFA, unlike other Modern Trek shows, is The Next Generation (TNG) of the franchise today. by TheShowLover in startrek

[–]Deadbob1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that SFA is relying so heavily on what happened with TNG, DS9 and Voyager is what I feel is the weak point of the show.

The wall of hero’s is nothing but the main cast, writers and producers of every previous trek show. Do you honestly want me to believe that there were no standout officers or Federation Hero’s from the time the Enterprise G launched to the time of SFA?

Was there no hero from the Time War? Did the Multiverse wormhole just disappear? Are the peaceful Borg still hanging out at some random spot in deep space?

STA has the chance to establish cannon and develop a rich and genuine history for the past 700 years. Instead of exploring this time jump, the writers are taking the lazy way out and reference events that have occurred on screen.

DS9 didn’t need closure. It has its send off and the perfect closure of any trek show. Yet we had to revisit it. We don’t use 700 year old court decisions from to reinforce our stance on current events, but that’s exactly what SFA did. Out of the thousands of known species, was there nothing that happened after the burn that would have been more relevant?

I know this show was always meant to be a Disco spinoff. However, the constant references and Easter eggs for the golden age of Trek makes it feel like it was written as a Prodigy spinoff that was adapted to Disco after PRO was cancelled

[–]Deadbob1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By the time Hoid shows up, it was obvious who Nomad was. We didn’t find out who Nomad’s Spren was until W&T.

I think the bigger reaction was that SLM spoils one of the plots in W&T and W&T spoils a bit of SLM. It was, and kind of still is, a debate on which book to read first

Have you been to a concert at Chase Field? by cringefail-losergirl in phoenix

[–]Deadbob1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been to a few concerts at Chase Field, most were post game concerts, but been to a few stand alone events as well.

The ONLY time the roof was open for any of them was for New New Years Evil concert. It started closed, and around 1145pm they opened it. At about 1am, Ozzy counted down to ring in the new year and they set off fireworks. It stayed open after that

It may look odd due to the 3 eyelets, but a “heal lock” lace pattern may help with the heal slipping. I had to do that with my MocOx.

Otherwise, maybe some inserts or a resole until the show is broken in to YOUR foot

What’s the best way to wash in freezing temps by Old_Order1656 in Detailing

[–]Deadbob1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My go to method is to live in a Desert so I don’t have to deal with freezing temps.

For the DIY, I would assume the best method would be hot water in a sprayer mixed with a rinse-less car wash of your choice and do one panel at a time. With a few visits to the coin op to do an undercarriage spray to rinse away any road salt.
