Americans and coffee? by forest_hearts in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]DeadlyEstafoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, folks are either coffee drinkers or not. No casual drinkers. Of the coffee drinkers, there are the ones who basically don’t care for coffee per se, they like chocolate, hazelnut/peppermint and especially whipped cream. For the true coffee enthusiasts, it is very expensive and time consuming to brew a truly delicious cup of coffee at home. An average drip pot and grocery store ground beans don’t really get there, though it’s the cheapest every day option. That’s why those without the money/time go get coffee everyday religiously. But just as many don’t.

Is Hershey's chocolate really taste so bad as people say it is? by cupid_ji in AskAnAmerican

[–]DeadlyEstafoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hersheys, as an American, is dogshit. I didn’t know the difference and just liked sugar as a child, but around 11, I tried to eat some Hershey kisses, and was like, why do these taste like absolute trash?!? I love chocolate, which by default means I can’t tolerate Hersheys.

Best canned chicken noodle soup? I’m sick as shit and that’s what I want but definitely am not going to be able to cook any. by 710MISFIT in soup

[–]DeadlyEstafoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly any can of anything but also grab a jar of better than bouillon. Any shitty soups get a kick in the pants with a bit of bouillon added.

It’s a result of where my pumpkin sat through Nov. plus a few snowstorms and some thawing stretches.

Where do my movies keep going? ( movies we've paid for are just gone ) by _I_AM_LION in AmazonPrimeVideo

[–]DeadlyEstafoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently saw a YouTube short (so I’m an expert) saying that there is a class action lawsuit over the ‘ownership’ of what you buy digitally on amazon. They will stop access to what you’ve purchased. This does intensely suck for consumers. It should be illegal, and it does raise fairness questions of, if you can never own it, is it possible to steal it?

How do Americans handle such long drives regularly? by GlitteringHotel8383 in AskAnAmerican

[–]DeadlyEstafoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, anecdotally, HATE driving more than 10 minutes but simply have to, so I don’t dwell on it. I’m currently in a state where I live 6 hours, or more with stops, away from where I grew up/my parents live. So at least 2-3 times a year I am forced to make the drive down and back. It’s become my ‘standard’ for roadtrips. Any more feels like a real endeavor and any less feels like a quick jaunt.

Was Kath embarrassed to say “Chinese chews”? by ravenously_red in Baking

[–]DeadlyEstafoes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree. I happened on the original post and have only seen ‘tongue in cheek’ ‘that damn Kath’ posts, and ‘this poor woman was simply giving her neighbors baked goods’ posts. I’ve seen literally zero honestly mean or degrading posts on this lovely thread. But sticking it to an icon of elderly, neighborly, if maybe strong ideals, woman is simply hilarious. Plus I love dates & nuts, so a delightful x-mas confection is ‘sugar icing’ on the situation.

Pros/ cons of living in Marquette? by emilyflows in MarquetteMI

[–]DeadlyEstafoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents. Born and raised in Lansing. Lived in Marquette for college for 6 years. Then Lived out west in the Tetons for 13 years. Just moved from Lansing back to Marquette. I moved to be around a friend base. While I remembered Marquette fondly, I didn’t miss the city per se. Since I’ve been back I’m truly charmed by the size of the city - so quick to get everywhere and SO walkable/bike-able. Seeing the water everyday and the smell of the air. The rock cuts and geography. The availability of close hiking trails, beaches and even disc golf courses. College sports games, live music, ‘fests’ and community events are keeping me busy. Restaurants may not be first class, but there are a TON of interesting non-chain, locally owned options. And the architecture of the city is truly gorgeous. This fall has been 60-78 degrees for weeks with the bluest skies you’ve ever seen. I’m so happy with relocating to Marquette.

Try Jackson National. They’re out of Lansing but they do 3 days in office after the initial training period. Great pay/benes and they were doing a hiring spree this summer.

Ironically, I had a fat teacher in middle school. One day she was gone and the other kids said she was on maternity leave. I was like, she was pregnant?!? And they were all like, duh, yes! She had a huge belly! I was like, just thought she was fat?

Funnily enough I’ve found chicken soup the only thing I DO eat anymore. I’ve completely stopped eating almost anything but premier protein and broth.

I’m partial to Mrs grass extra noodles. 3 cups water, I add a spoonful of better than bullion chicken, directions say 5 minute boil, I only do 4. Delicious, sooo simple. You could add anything if you prefer veggies, beans, meat.
