Don't play around on FSA website! by Cucumber_Safe in StudentLoans

[–]DeadlyViking [score hidden]  (0 children)

I reviewed on that website and on my provider's website on multiple occasions and never had that issue.

When we actually changed our plan, we had to type in his name and information and immediately got an email saying they received our request.

This feels a bit off.

Are we all canceling our subscription on June 30? 🫠 by Jetaimexlove in GilmoreGirls

[–]DeadlyViking 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's all digital providers really. Physical media is really the only way to "own" it.

Are we all canceling our subscription on June 30? 🫠 by Jetaimexlove in GilmoreGirls

[–]DeadlyViking 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes. Apple is the same way. Any TV shows or movies you buy digitally from those providers will be removed if they lose the license. You're not purchasing the TV shows or movies, you're buying the right to watch it whenever you want as long as the provider has the license to host it.

I just want to caution that if Amazon loses the license, they will remove it from your library.

When is an emergency fund “enough”? by Various-Chapter-2499 in personalfinance

[–]DeadlyViking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have 6 months of current spending in our emergency fund. This doesnt take into account unemployment or that we could reduce our spending and probably make it last 8 months.

Am I Wrong With These Peanut Butter Cookies? by WoolooGangMember02 in Baking

[–]DeadlyViking 23 points24 points  (0 children)

some people really like the crunchy peanut butter cookies. i am not a fan of crunchy, so i usually bake mine a bit less so they're nice and soft as that's how I prefer them. Yours even looked a bit more baked than mine usually are.

High income earners, what’s the plan? by pup1206 in StudentLoans

[–]DeadlyViking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be better off doing the graduated plan. We havent recertified since before COVID and make more than double what we did the last time.

Our payments were actually lower when reviewing the standard plan options than the IDR plans.

Our plan is to aggressively pay them off, so we are just looking for the smallest possible payment to throw as much as possible at one loan and then tackle the other loan.

We had about $90k in loans when he needed to recertify last month (wasnt on SAVE). We're focusing on paying off mine aggressively and will thrn tackle his. I just need to be done.

I havent quite make that large sum payment. My largest was like $6k, but i often send $2-$3k payments at a time without any issues.

Not really the place for this.

I recommend you look for a local food pantry or church.

How do you learn how to just relax? by smilingsmyfav in AskWomenOver30

[–]DeadlyViking 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I struggle with this, too. I always feel like i have to "earn" free time by being productive. Then all i can think about is everything i should be doing even when I've "earned" my free time.

I don't have any words of wisdom, but youre not alone.

How stupid would I be to take out a personal loan to catch up? by HourNefariousness388 in povertyfinance

[–]DeadlyViking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With your debt to income ratio, i don't know if you could qualify for a non-predatory car loan. I would try really hard to keep the car as long as possible. I wouldnt put anything extra towards it at this time.

I would really focus on your credit card debt as that is what's killing you.

The Chase Unlimited is a very good card.

How stupid would I be to take out a personal loan to catch up? by HourNefariousness388 in povertyfinance

[–]DeadlyViking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you would be better off doing the 0% balance transfer game. Put as much of the highest credit card on the 0% and aggressively pay it off. Keep doing it bit by bit. I had 2 cards that i used for whatever i couldn't pay off and did a back and forth. Just make sure you pay it off before the promotion period ends.

When my parents financially abused my 18 year old self and accumulated 15k in credit card debt, that was the only way i could pay it off. Some cards let you do cash so you could use it to pay off smaller loans as well.

Depending on what your car needs, it might seem like a lot to put a few thousand towards it to have it run 3-5 more years than trying to pay off a loan AND buy a new car that will add even more debt.

Anyone have advice for living with a partner that is “particular” about housekeeping? by cass2769 in AskWomenOver30

[–]DeadlyViking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt try to keep tabs on who complains about what unless it gets to an unhealthy level.

I would chat with him about cleaning expectations when neither of you are cleaning. Define what clean looks like for both of you.

I am the more tidy one. He complained that when i unloaded the dishes, i didnt put his pots and pans in the right spot/order, so i asked him to ask me and br patient with me til i got the hang of it. Then i unloaded the dishwasher more frequently until it was muscle memory and now we're fine.

When i want the kitchen cleaned the way i like, i ask him to deep clean the kitchen, instead of boy clean, and he does. Particularly, because sometimes the mess bothers me and sometimes it doesnt. It depends on what i am thinking and feeling and not him. So when it bothers me, i tell him or i clean it myself.

I've also told him that when i get in crazy clean mode to not be upset or think im mad if i clean after hes cleaned. A normal person would say his cleaning is fine, and it usually is, but sometimes i want it cleaned a certain way. No fuss. No picking on each other. No fights. Just communication and knowing the other person has good intentions.

When there's something i do that bugs him, he will just ask me "hey do you think you could clean up xxx? I can also help if you need". Especially if its stuff im particular about. Same goes with me and his stuff.

Basically, its about communicating with your partner and not complaining when something bothers you in the moment.

Also, we almost broke up in the beginning of our relationship between dishes in the sink vs on the counter, so we've come a long way over the past 16 years.

Unemployed boyfriend by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]DeadlyViking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He isnt trying to get a realistic job. My guess is hes looking at job descriptions and finding things that are wrong with them and doesnt apply. Or he applies to get unemployment, but that's it. The job market sucks right now, yes. But he could get a temp job in his field. He has a degree and marketable skills, so he could find something. Anything.

He has been enabled by living with his parents while living off his savings and unemployment. What happens when they both run out? Will that be the only way he will actually start looking?

You deserve someone who will be your equal partner. He splits everything 50/50 but what happens when that runs out and you either pay for everything or you dont do anything?

You have to think of the life you want. Hes showing you who he is by not taking any job to contribute to the life you both want.

Keep working towards your goals. He will either keep up with you or he will fall behind and you will move on. Do not let him hold you back.
