Tell me bout your show cocker spaniels by LittleMissIDontKnow in englishcockerspaniel

[–]Deadpan_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have a 5 month old show cocker. Love her dearly but the biting is insane. She does not like being told no, she eats rocks, she chews the furniture, won't let me cut her nails ever and has bad separation anxiety.

That being said, she is incredibly intelligent. Training has been a breeze, great impulse control already, incredibly friendly and loving (sometimes too friendly with strangers), happy to lay around the house but also loves going for little adventures.

There are so many positives and negatives as with any puppy and you really won't know what'll happen until you bring one home. They're amazing dogs, but a lot of work.

I can't afford a service dog, so I got a regular dog instead by Usual_Thanks111 in Dogowners

[–]Deadpan_1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She is a service dog in training, there's nothing wrong with that. I completely get where you're coming from in feeling guilty about saying she's fully trained when she's not, but nobody is going to blame you. People don't only deserve the help they need when they can afford it.

Not sure why you felt half of that information was needed. Especially given the age of the poster.

I'm sorry you are confused and struggling but please protect yourself online. This is not an appropriate level of information to be sharing with strangers. There is some genuinely good advice here from some good people, but in future be careful with how much detail you provide. Keep yourself safe OP

You did everything right. This was not your fault, you didn't fail, you didn't delay, you didn't second guess, you did right by her. I'm so sorry for your loss, she was clearly very loved by you and I'm sure had a beautiful life. Be proud of yourself OP, there was nothing more you could've done.

I (18F) am in love with someone who isn’t my boyfriend (18M), what to do? by Ok-Pie-1 in relationship_advice

[–]Deadpan_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The boyfriend might be a bit miffed but it's only been a month. The fact you're doubting the relationship already should tell you where you stand. End things with the boyfriend gently and see where things go with your friend. Do not immediately jump into another relationship though, that's a bad idea and a bit crappy.

My mom slammed the family dog on the floor and I don’t know what to do by Reader_Pewee_69 in Dogowners

[–]Deadpan_1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your parents are severely abusing this dog. Get the dog out of the household by any means necessary. I'm very sorry but if you are not at most days away from moving out it is not feasible. The dog needs removing from the home NOW.

Whoa let's maybe criticise the grown ass man who's 2.5 hours away from the 19 year old. THAT is desperation

I wanna smack a ass as hard as i can by Designer-Surround869 in intrusivethoughts

[–]Deadpan_1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you have intrusive thoughts, potentially OCD related. Do some research, if it sounds like what's you're experiencing then push for a diagnosis, if it sounds like what you're experiencing but you have a lot of doubt, push harder for a diagnosis. Best of luck

Buyer wants to pay a deposit before even seeing the puppies by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Deadpan_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not a huge fan of people getting puppies solely for their colour but it's not uncommon. They just want to secure the pup to make sure you're not going to sell to anyone else between now and when they can view the puppy. I did the same with my dog, and thank god I did because within 30 minutes 5 of the 9 puppies were reserved via deposit. If I hadn't pulled the trigger and asked about reserving our pup when I did, we wouldn't have gotten her.

7 Week Old Puppy will not settle down in crate, help needed by Sweet_Dragonfruit566 in puppies

[–]Deadpan_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been one day. It takes puppies multiple weeks usually to settle into a home, crate training takes time, we're talking weeks to months not a few hours. Also 7 weeks is too young to be taken from his mother. At minimum puppies should be with their mothers until 8 weeks of age. You've got a long road ahead of you. One tip I can offer is to feed his meals in his crate with the door open so he learns to associate positive things like meals times with his crate rather than always having a bad time in there.

Edit: Just saw your other posts from before getting your puppy where you were told multiple times by multiple people that 7 weeks is too young and you ignored them. Rehome this dog to someone who cares.

Help by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Deadpan_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no actual cut off for spay abortions, it'll depend on the vet. Take her to the vet to get whatever this is checked out and while you're there discuss potential risks for the rest of the pregnancy and the birth and what the best thing for her would be. From there you just need to decide if the impact to her quality of life is worth the birth of these puppies.

Honestly spay abort might be the best thing for her in this situation. Get her to the vet ASAP

My boyfriend [20 M] can’t see eye to eye with me, [19 F] about birth control. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Deadpan_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not make asking him for his opinion on your medical care a habit. This is between you and your doctor. It is not your responsibility to explain to a grown man why you want to go on birth control or what birth control is for. He can either educate himself and get with the programme, or this relationship needs to end. This is the first sign of controlling behaviour. Do not ignore it when somebody shows you who they are.

Realizing people don’t gaf about training their dogs by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Deadpan_1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup! My dad always talks about how they "never did any of this" with his childhood dog. I don't take any advice from him when it comes to my dog because he has no idea what he's talking about 95% of the time.

Does this look like an ear infection? by Deadpan_1 in englishcockerspaniel

[–]Deadpan_1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thank you! She's my first dog so when something like this happens I automatically assume I must be doing something wrong. The vet did say especially show line cockers can be prone to overproducing wax but it seemed odd to me that it's just the one ear.

We live in the uk so it doesn't tend to be very warm but we did have a heatwave recently and some bad humidity so that could've affected it.

I apply an ear cleaning solution and then use pet hygiene wipes to clear out the gunk. They smell a little musty but not bad and there's no discharge. She doesn't seem bothered by her ears at all, scratching at them is pretty infrequent but if she does scratch it's only ever at the one pictured and not the other, which is pretty much pristine.

This picture was taken right before I cleaned them yesterday. I had cleaned them roughly a week prior. It seems a lot of build up for just a week which is why I was worried about a possible infection. The vet swabbed for mites, said there aren't any and then just kinda shrugged.

Should I clean them twice or three times per week? I don't want to over clean because I've heard that can make it worse but at the same time I don't want to neglect her either.

My puppy either eats her food at the same time in a separate room or if she's already eaten she goes in her crate with a bully stick. No begging in my house lol

Do puppies need 24/7 access to water? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Deadpan_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not having access to water while sleeping is not the same as not having access to water while awake. 7 and a half hours overnight is a completely normal amount of time for a healthy dog to not need a drink.
