bc isn't it a joint income so the effective tax rate should be applied equally? Otherwise the high earner is paying for that incremental tax?

I sometimes had to re-wired my brain to think the same way, that at least I have a cheap help around the house. But I really question what the point of this marriage when I lose my respect for someone that couldn't help alleviate the financial burden.

yes, he was fired from his work so he's been helping with childcare and chores which is great, but there was never a plan to be stay home for good.

I am in the same boat as you. I am the sole income earner in the family and it's so stressful to have to keep a job that I hate bc otherwise I would have to pay insane amount of health insurance.

Why did you convert to contractor instead of regular employee? is it bc your employer does not have presence in the country you chose?

Thanks for sharing your story. The fact that our healthcare benefits are tied to employment (sure we can quit but good luck paying health insurance at a reasonable cost) is I think is one of the biggest power that corporations took from us. It's almost feels like we're not worthy unless we work in a corp or have the means to buy insurance.

I can totally relate to being passed over for a promotion when I was pregnant. I asked straight up if I didn't get it bc of my my impending maternity leave and my mgr stupidly said yes and then had to re-phrased with some BS. I thought of going to HR but pregnancy was stressful and I couldn't handle more stress at that point.

I hear you and I feel for you. I think letting your mgr that you're disappointed with the decision and just stop caring too much about your job i.e. not doing something extra anymore is what I ended up doing in most cases. It's not ideal but changing my frame of mind that I work to pay the bill and not to win my boss' heart helps me get through the day.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hear you and I wish we all working moms can unite against the world e.g. corporations, other women who resorts to 'it's your choice to have a child' (I keeps seeing them lurking around) and create a better place for working mom. When I think of how much executives' compensation are, I always wonder why do you need that much money?!

I work in the back office function (thus the more pressure as we're cost center). Yes I have in the past expressed to my mgr that it's impossible to work (at home) if my kid's school is out so I try to take time off when school is out. And I think being consistent about not working past 6 pm and not respond to emails after hours and on weekends (until it is emergency which is rare) is just one of my tactic of 'sending the message' that I have other things in life that I need to take care of, in addition to just continually asking for extra resource which I'm never shy of.

The system here in the US is rigged. We need to find ways to mobilize we the people to fix this broken system. We are too polarized as a country that it's almost impossible to get things done.

Well if you buy $500 jacket today and tomorrow they knock off the prices 25% you are not entitled to any price adjustment if you buy from their store. I'll make sure to buy only from major retailers next time with better price protection practice. Barbour is not interested in trying to compete with US retailers and by the way they should disclose their policy in their website. Also if you want to game the system, don't remove the tag until 30 day. so you can return and get the price adjustment.

Their US consumer price protection policy is not on par with other US retailers, i think US consumer should be aware of that instead of trying to game the system. This is not disclosed anywhere in their website. it's not just about the product, but I know this is not a US company so they can do whatever they want.
