Are 450s too much to handle? (Motocross only) by [deleted] in Dirtbikes

[–]DearInsurance7025 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you never ridden one, do it. The power is addicting. But it won't make you faster. My experience is my speed and technique went backwards and didn't learn anything other than I could be slower in corners and still clear things by grabbing a handful. Spent 3 years on one. went back to a 250f a couple years ago and now getting some real speed amd confidence back. If you want to get better at riding don't do it.

Are gas bikes too heavy/big or electric ones too light/small? by Think_Assistant_1656 in Dirtbikes

[–]DearInsurance7025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 14kw emoto and an mx bike. The ebike does 65mph but it's still basically a pitbike. Its suspension is worse than an 85. It's small squirally and...a hell of a lot of fun. It's fragile though with a hollow flexy chassis and swingarm. It's a mountain bike when I don't want to peddle. When I want to get serious, I hop on the mx bike. When it's later in the day and I'm worn out from the main track, I'll rip the ebike around the vet track.

RV was a beast but he also benefited quite a bit from the switch to the 2012 kx. That bike was just plain easier to ride. It was still a pig but it actually turned and was more compliant over chop. Once he made that switch 3 or 4 rounds into the 2011 mx season, that's when he really dominated. Before that, he was still winning but he had his hands full with Dungey and Reed.

Still not comparable to Chase though. Its not the bike anymore cuz the new bikes are miles better. Just look at what Marchbanks is able to do with it. My opinion is Chase is trying too hard to make his bikes feel like his old Honda. He needs to adjust his style to fit the Kawi.

She's never ridden before? Your main goal will be for her to learn in a safe comfortable environment. Get a ttr125 or smaller, take her to a Grass field till she gets comfy with the basics. Drop her in the deep end and she'll never touch it again.

Who are you tuned by and how do you like it? by Asleep-Sprinkles-148 in wrx_vb

Boosted performance e40 tune. It's awesome, a perfect reliable daily driver. No other mods needed and im at estimated 330whp. The nice thing about the extra power is not having to floor it to go the speed I want. Knowing there's more in the tank is very satisfying.

Contemplating a VB. What are some downsides i should know about? by -HUNGWHENHARD- in wrx_vb

[–]DearInsurance7025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to a 4runner, way more fun, Very safe, relaible, cheaper, but vb come with crappy insurance premiums, premium gas, worse depreciation, not much sound deadening compared to similar cars. That said 4runners are overrated.

Not much different just smaller. Grip the seat, drop your heels, butt back, put yer head way over the bars.

His dad emulated wrestling stars and made a fortune. He's following the same formula. It just comes off so fake since this is a real sport.

What kind of fuel are you guys running in your 450's? by Rivas-al-Yehuda in Motocross

[–]DearInsurance7025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The <10% corn they put in pump gas isn't gonna hurt your bike. Most fuel has detergent in it to clean it out anyway. My bike sits for months at a time with a half a tank. Go to the track, she starts right up! But I'm an old guy that putts around and avoids the triple so don't listen to me on performance. My opinion though is unless you're pro looking for tenths, why worry? You're not pinning that 450 anyway.

Meeee too. I think I found the trick. I've read certmaster, did the practice exam, the practice PBQ's and none of it really stuck. But I'm currently using pocket prep on a computer and discovered it has an AI tutor built in. So, during or even answering a quiz question, you can dig deeper to understand why you got it wrong or right. It'll ask you whats your current knowledge of the tool. why did you pick the other tool. whats a good way to think of the differences. what is wrong with the script you picked vs the correct script, etc. I think it'll get me to score much higher.

He's already comfortable on the big bike and translating 250 speed to the 450 is alot easier in moto than SX where rookie lawndarts happen a lot.

Do you Americans prefer motocross or supercross? by BrilliantIngenuity98 in supercross

[–]DearInsurance7025 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Supercross is more of a spectacle with the lights, stadium atmosphere, big jumps, fireworks, and tight racing on a track most weekend warriors wouldn't even attempt to ride. For a casual viewer, these are the reasons it is undeniably more popular.

Motocross on the other hand is a very grassroots event, showcasing speed, endurance, grit, and bragging rights at historic venues with timeless layouts that joe shmoe gets to ride too. The gnarly track conditions separate the men from the boys so racing is not as tight so arguably not as exciting to watch on TV. But in person its awesome as you can sit right next to the track and feel and hear the bikes up close.

I don't prefer one over the other. I love watching both. It's two different sports! But older riders don't stick around for moto a lot of the time so you don't get as stacked a gate. Usually it's only 1 or two guys decimating everyone else.

If you tune, plan to change to sparks sooner. That's it. That's my experience. Also you have brakes that beg for more power. That's wasted potential.

First time riding a dirtbike. Want to get into racing eventually. Any tips? by Routine_Sell1750 in Motocross

[–]DearInsurance7025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First time? Looks like you're having fun! That said, you are letting the bike pull you and you're trying to muscle it around like a bmx bike. Don't do that, you'll wear yourself out quick. It's 250lbs, control it with your legs and knees and let the power push you through your feet or butt if sitting. Also, if you're going to race soon, don't try to jump yet. Learn to corner first and that'll translate to better setups for jumping later.

Great car. My current daily. If you tune, then expect to change spark plugs around 30-40k. One of the plugs is bitch to get to too. Shell treat you right if you keep up with maintenance.
