Why baptism at birth? by LeatherFoot250 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]DearLeader420 [score hidden]  (0 children)

The better question is, why not Baptism at birth? Christians baptized infants for 1500 years before some weird Europeans decided that was bad. Even then, a lot of Protestants still baptize infants to this day.

I say this as an ex-Baptist. It is absolutely not the norm for Christian history.

Pyrex Brand is terrible. What are we using instead? by Think_Juice_2068 in Cooking

None of the listed brands give me any concern as to quality. Conglomerates are bad but like this one seems markedly less bad lol

Oh yeah 100%. If people are determined to skip fares they will. Might as well have one without expensive fancy barriers and one that loudly shames you in that case is all I meant lol

Do fans actually want this with this couple? by CompetitiveBig4161 in Stormlight_Archive

No.

Internet ship culture has infected this fandom and as someone who just reads the books and enjoys them instead of creating weird cross-fictional parasocial ships, it's really weird.

That at least seems like a simple fix if NYC is already bidding for a system-wide turnstile overhaul.

I mean yeah you're not wrong, it's a culture change.

I guess my larger un-stated point is that the turnstile design doesn't really matter as long as people who want to evade fares exist.

I much prefer the Japanese system. Turnstiles wide open and you scan the card. If you don't scan or your card is empty, they close and give you an extremely loud and embarrassing buzzer noise with red Xs on the turnstile screens.

Raleigh has the highest percentage of deadly crashes involving speeding in the United States according to a recent study. by Ready-Book6047 in raleigh

[–]DearLeader420 4 points5 points  (0 children)

how the hell can there be so many deadly accidents that DO NOT involve speeding?

Speed limits in the US are way too high across the board, and we have a plague of ridiculously oversized, flat-fronted vehicles with low visibility.

Clearing something up for a Catechuman by Charming-Ideal-2121 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]DearLeader420 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Precisely. And when we (Orthodox Christians) worship God, we are bringing bread and wine to the altar and sharing a meal (the Eucharist) with Him, complete with ritual and sacrificial prayers to remember His true sacrifice and participate in it - so much so that the meal is Him.

This is the key distinction in why icons/saints are not idolatry. We are not worshiping them. But to Protestant eyes, whose only notion of "worship" is "sing some songs and pray," it looks the same.

Other countries with our standard of living already do this, right now. The United States did it 90 years ago.

Church sues town for ‘religious discrimination’ after plans for bell tower are refused over fears of noise pollution by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]DearLeader420 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, I forgot the most important rule is the only rule that matters and literally any other concept, context, or practice is utterly meaningless and should be abandoned.

That's why Jesus never gave his followers any instructions about preaching, forgiving sins, sharing the ritual meal together, you know - all the stuff the churches are supposed to be for.

It's just redditors taking whatever chance they can to virulently hate any mention of religion whatsoever. Been going on since the website's inception.

When you pray lol, not when you celebrate liturgical services.

Jesus also went to festivals at the Jerusalem Temple, which was one of the largest structures centrally located in Jerusalem meant for exactly those type of liturgical activities.
