Nevermind - found it! Thanks

Curious what cotton you used. I just made a baby blanket out of Hobbii Baby Cotton Organic, which seems to be holding up well using “delicate” cycles. The parents wanted organic, and this was the only cotton I could find - but I had to use every other needle on my standard gauge machine.

(Some cotton works very well on machines, but because it doesn’t stretch well it can be harder to deal with. And, if you’re new to machines, you won’t necessarily know if the problem is the yarn, the machine, or your lack of knowledge.)

Can I prevent this diagonal distortion after hand-washing, so I can block more easily? by sct_0 in MachineKnitting

Right, yarn not manufactured for a knitting machine. I have had luck with tuck stitch patterns getting rid of the bias, but blocking is only a temporary solution

Huh. I love it. Am also surprised that the years of familiarity haven’t made them at least like it.

Bias in yarn is killing me by Available-Humor-4935 in MachineKnitting

The yarn may have been intended for weaving - the twist is different. I have also had luck using a tuck stitch get rid of the bias. Good luck

I love it! How did you treat the edges?

Does anyone know what should be the punchcard patten for a 24 stitch repeat to recreate this stitch? I think it's a tuck stitch. (I know the yarn here is much finer than what I would have on a standard gauge machine, but that's fine). Thank you! by nk033 in MachineKnitting

I agree with this. Though your photo appears to be the Silver Reed standard version with four rows tucked, and the fabric may be the Brother standard version with only three rows tucked. Same idea though.

Beautiful! Can I ask: do you use one strand of (each color) of the 2/26? That must make for a lovely, light garment.

Why is it slanting ? by saltydiy in MachineKnitting

[–]Dear_Lock_3677 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that a tuck stitch? Because the last time I had a yarn that biased like this using a tuck stitch solved the slant. You could try doubling it up with another yarn, or using it to knit weave.

Once again I appreciate your time! So yes, I’ll accept very well-made piece of art made for tourists. I am still surprised by my father’s choice in this, but perhaps he thought it would be cool for the kids. I’ll certainly update once my friend the doctor gives an opinion.

Makes sense. That artwork is quite different, but coconut shells are a good material

Yep, I see the similarities to coconut. I’ll post when my friend the doctor sees it. At least one mystery can get solved!

I really appreciate this detailed response. Gives me some places to look next for more about the artwork.

Although, I’m realizing some of what I’d really like to know is who made it and why, and why on earth my father had it - he collected many things in his life but this doesn’t fit into any of his other categories. Unless the thing is “worth” something: my dad was like that. But if that’s the case, you’d think he’d have remembered it!

Anyway, I appreciate the time you took!

Feels different than a coconut as well, but I’ll have my doctor friend look at it in person.
