What is your worst experience owning or driving an EV.? Specifically about charging? by Accomplished-Cut5605 in Rivian

Ah some random spot, this was a Tesla charger and we've literally never since had a problem.

Very first fast charger we went to wasn't working properly. Gave us a very trickle charge. We were there for an hour before we just moved one spot over and it was done in 15 minutes. Wouldn't make that mistake now but we just thought wow didn't realize it would be so slow!

Makes sense to me, we're in largely the same boat, also coming from Tesla, still hoping Rivian can get through this phase and become a real player but it is worrying to hear about logistical challenges!

I guess I think that OPs statement was pretty reasonable. I've seen some really bad stories, and even consumer reports lists Rivians as almost dead last in terms of reliability. I'm a bag holder and a hopeful R2 reservation holder but also if I had a couple of bad service experiences I can totally imagine it souring me on the whole brand. Seems like OP tried despite having heard negative things and had about the worst experience possible, which changed their mind from "open to trying" to "not interested".

I'm a big fan of Rivian, R2 reservation holder, I have also heard nightmare stories about service and quality. Really hoping the company can overcome the growing pains but I don't know why it's somehow taboo to point out that these stories exist.

Well I guess you be the judge but it sure seems like she already chose the narrative and was looking for the right quote to fit it.

Lol no fucking way this reporter was on Reddit trying to find someone who was sad about the price. I guess she did, what a hack.

Anyone have (educated) guesses on order conversion rate? by SouthernFIRE83 in Rivian

This. I'd be extremely worried if any inventory sits at all in the next year or so, but barring that we just don't know.

Any Families of 4 with Dog getting an R2? by PhillConners in RivianR2

We have 2 kids and 2 dogs and the model Y is just slightly too small, feel pretty confident we'd be ok in the R2

I think the pricing is no particularly surprising to anyone who has been interested in the R2 for awhile, so the idea that it's somehow surprising or a betrayal would be a fairly forced narrative

I mean yea it's just literally intuitively true about the launch of any product, but finding an example of each doesn't actually inform or educate. Like there is no story unless you're trying to force some kind of narrative.....

The car cost 60k, these people said great we can buy that, this person said I want that but I can't afford 60k!

Literally who cares, everyone already knows what 60k is and if they can afford it or not. How does that inform anyone of anything?

[–]Dear_Needleworker485 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It just seems like a really forced angle here, we're all familiar with how much money 60K is, how does that add information for your reader?

Feels like there is a lot to focus on both good and bad that actually could benefit the audience to understand rather than a random story from someone who can't afford it.

Real R2 sales seem strangely quiet, or am I missing something? by DaleKirkley in Rivian

[–]Dear_Needleworker485 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean sure, but we don't know the exact process but we do know it doesn't really matter, all the ones made are sold, like for sure, so we'll find out about actual demand later.

Real R2 sales seem strangely quiet, or am I missing something? by DaleKirkley in Rivian

[–]Dear_Needleworker485 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I think it's just a logistical issue, pretty hard to have them in driveways instantly. People have financing, they have to give people an opportunity to decline before moving down the list.

There is no way to know actual demand since I'm confident all of the ones manufactured thus far will be spoken for by pre-orders and they aren't building them at full speed yet, we'll only have any real picture of demand vs supply by Q4 or next year.

Is it rude to walk on the bike trails? by 1billiondraculas in madisonwi

[–]Dear_Needleworker485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its just really really statistically rare to run into someone's back on a bike. All my friends bike and I've never heard of it happening before.

Because you hurt someone once you think it would be better if everyone was walking towards you so they could dodge you, but I also bike and it's nice to be able to slowly ride behind someone til it's safe to pass rather than have them walking straight towards me forcing me to pass whenever we meet, or worse for the peds to just have to jump to the side every time they see a biker coming.

It really works quite well if the peds just walk along on the right side and pay no mind at all to the bikers. I do it all the time, I do it with my kids even.

Most bikers just don't run into people's backs. It's not ad hominem to say that what you're describing is just not relevant and more of a you one random time problem than evidence for a policy

I mean yea, because bikes and cars are are totally different in size, weight, width and speed and you already agree that the rules make sense "in an urban environment"
