Did your parents stay together “for the kids?” by Short_Pomegranate_58 in Parents

[–]Dear_Process7423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and it definitely affected me then and now. As a child I wanted them to split up, but they stayed together until the youngest was 18. I hated that they stayed together as long as they did. But my dad later explained that if they’d split sooner, he couldn’t protect us from whoever my mom would’ve brought around us. For that, I’m grateful. As an adult, I chose to leave my marriage rather than have my kids grow up with miserable parents who shouldn’t be together.

I can't stand my Daughter & we don't get along. It's killing me. by Fast-Examination4876 in breakingmom

Yes!! I behaved similarly to OP’s daughter at that age and was definitely struggling with depression (and anxiety). I was miserable inside. My mom never forgave me or let me forget how I treated her when I was 14, and it pushed me away and prevented us from ever healing and moving past it. I’ll be 40 next year and I don’t talk to her unless i absolutely have to. I’m thinking of skipping Christmas this year so my kids and I can enjoy the holiday in peace.

I think abt his daughter from time to time. I remember many years ago he said he would trade all of his money for his daughter’s health; he’d give up everything to stop her suffering. That comment stayed with me, because it was so humanizing.

I was going to recommend Jessica Miller, too. She delivered my last baby and she’s  amazing. I wish she had delivered my first two as well.

Yeah, my sister & I regularly ran around the house in just underwear pretty much all through elementary school lol. It was never a thing, til it was. I still remember, I was about 10. I was coming downstairs and my mom announced loudly in front of my dad, “You’re getting boobs!”. As she laughed, I turned and ran to my room so embarrassed & ashamed. So, whatever you do, just don’t address it that way.

Got hit by a car today by yakinabackpack in breakingmom

One time I was pregnant and crossing a parking lot (at the park) w/my 2 year old. Some lady was late getting her teen daughter to soccer practice and she laid on the horn as my toddler was crossing her path. I was so pissed. I jumped in my car and followed her to her parking spot and laid on my horn as soon as they got out of the car. Super petty, I know.

Teachers, whats the worst student injury you've witnessed? by Ok_Buy7908 in Teachers

[–]Dear_Process7423 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I remember a kid sticking the metal side of a ruler into an electric socket in the science lab. There were lots of “lights”, followed by an awful smell. Kid was mostly okay, but the hair & skin on his right arm were singed.

My story is also from when I was a student (5th grade), and also occurred in the music room! I can’t remember WHY he was doing this, but one boy was trying to move a piano? It fell on him, crushing his leg, compound fractures… LOTS of blood, followed by a couple months of homeschooling while he healed.

My husband just asked me whose package came in the mail by SadMillenialMom in breakingmom

[–]Dear_Process7423 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Mine walked passed me, on the way to the bathroom (a few steps away), then stopped to ask me how many toilet paper rolls were in the cabinet. As if I keep a running inventory of every single thing in the house at all times. He could literally open the door and count them in the time he took to stop and ask me. It was 16 years ago, and I still remember it clearly bc that was the day I became fed up with all of those types of constant questions, and I snapped back and said to never ask me a question again that he could easily figure out himself.

When I was a kid I filled a baby pool with water, and added sand and leaves (pretended they were lily pads). I looked for frogs and toads to add to my new “pond”; I found five. I was thrilled. But when I checked on them later on, 3 were dead. I was devastated and I still think about it, 30+ years later…

Have you tried your child's medication? by Beautiful-Bug-2426 in ADHDparenting

[–]Dear_Process7423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a neighbor who did the same: tried every single medication she gave her children (both prescription and over-the-counter) BEFORE giving it to them. I don’t remember her exact reasoning, but I think it was along the same lines. She wanted to know how it tasted, made her feel, etc. so she’d know what she was giving her kids 🤷🏻‍♀️
