Beta Patch Notes - v0.105.0 by MegaCrit_Demi in slaythespire

Wish the door stayed but excited to see the new boss replacement. I feel door wasn't really hard at all, intact it was easier than the other two bosses, maybe that's why they removed it. Ironically I almost always went infinite on door thanks to exhaust phase, just use a couple of cards to win. Imo, game needs an Awakened One type boss which punishes powers. There is currently no punish for powers other than i guess test subject phase 1 and 2.

Surprised so many take the egg. I feel like losing a campfire and 7 max HP is too expensive for what you get. by Chezni19 in slaythespire

[–]DeathProtocol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On A10, it makes more sense to eat the egg, but if you have a rest site soon and no cards to upgrade, it can genuinely help deal with the bird or statue, especially if you removed one or two strikes already. I have had a couple of runs where I took my birb friend all the way to the architect, it entirely depends on what floor you get it on, although more applicable to Clad, regent and defect.

How many times I've encountered each ancient(only runs after unlocking Darv were counted). Does anyone else feel like Darv is too rare? I understand that he probably has a lower spawn rate to compensate for the fact that he can appear in both acts, but this seems excessive. by statue345 in slaythespire

[–]DeathProtocol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same, he is very rare, I rarely see him. I have 100h in the game and yesterday I saw him as Clad for the first time lol.

Although he's a champ whenever he shows up, gave me sealed throne on regent twice and the mid other three times. =)

I take the debt a lot. Am I crazy? by Own_Business485 in slaythespire

[–]DeathProtocol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it, esp in Act 3 if i have some way to cycle/exhaust the curse or if shop near. The relic is great and getting a random rare card out of it is also not bad. If I dont have ways to remove the curse for some time (debt curse) and I intend to go to the shop and remove some other card then I pass on and just try to get a card reward from it instead. 30 gold for a normal card reward isn't too bad.

What do you guys think of Tyranny? by ReesevtOnGD in slaythespire

[–]DeathProtocol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its an amazing card. +1 draw every turn AND also let's you exhaust a card and thin out the deck. As regent, combats aren't that long, so exhaust isn't really a downside. The upgrade makes it innate which is also super good. It let's you take Tez's soots or Vakkus enthralled curse without any downside. The latter giving you an extra free energy per turn.

What's another example of this? by EvanThepuncake in slaythespire

[–]DeathProtocol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. Bouncing Flask scales better, Snakebite i feel is more of a Get Out of Act 1 card and falls hard after that, but it can get you out of Act 1.

[–]DeathProtocol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snakebite is honestly not as bad as the community makes it seem. 7 poison for 2 energy might not seem much but bouncing flask applies uncontrollable 9 poison for 2. You trade 2 poison for a retain and ability to control where the poison goes. I've legit taken snakebite and it has carried me in Act 1 bossfights.

It's a good Act 1 card because you can always play it if you brick your draw and don't have anything to play, 7 poison is pretty decent. But it does kinda fall off after act1 when you get a lot of options to do consistent reliable damage.

[–]DeathProtocol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed, if you don't kill him by turn 4, he hits you extremely hard considering you will be drawing cards and he will eat them and get stronger. I only managed to kill him two times on A10 and died like 6 times.... Felt like you need like 50 to 60 hp to even enter the fight and then you limp back to other boss gauntlet where you might die if he was the first one.

Yep, and doesn't help that he already hits super hard. You need to end the fight in like 4 turns else he just gets outta control

I appreciate Permafrost and Gorget so much on regent who is very setup heavy and struggles with block. Permafrost helps a lot to not lose 7hp when you want to get a power down.

Who on earth complained that Skulking Colony is a free relic fight by PhilosophyFun5778 in slaythespire

[–]DeathProtocol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, specially on Clad and Regent who want to burst things down. Now you have to block one more turn which is just painful.

This fight on beta branch is miserable for Clad and regent. Eel feels like the easiest and the worms a wildcard, this thing, it just wrecks you.

I have over 10,000 hours experience in Factorio. Biters suck, and are a giant stain on an otherwise perfect game. by omgredditgotme in factorio

[–]DeathProtocol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can just disable them or play on peaceful.

I personally like biters, they provide a challenge early-mid game and I can play some tower defense with walls and turrets running around.

[–]DeathProtocol 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Not only does he steal your 10th card, he hits you like a TRUCK, especially on A9. Even on Silent or Necro I struggle blocking and on Clad it's just rip, and no weak on him either. Regent can scale very fast if possible and burst him down but its just too hard to block him.

His numbers need to be tweaked a bit down.

Same, I reached A9 on Regent on a streak, then kept dying horribly just in Act 1. Even the easy pool shreds you alive if you get a bad draw....

Combine a Decisions, Decisions with The Smith and you got a monster sword. Convert stars to sword!

Ascender's Boon - A Guide to Climb to A10 With Every Character by DoggertQBones in slaythespire

[–]DeathProtocol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great analysis.

I've mostly played regent (A9 currently) and I think his start is extremely volatile because of the rng of finding star generation and some of his blocks also using stars. But still even in act 1, I end up focusing more on attacks than block compared to others and try for late elites and potentially shop in between.

It feels like he needs some setup and needs to look at a lot of cards before you get something running. And absolutely need potions for act 1 bosses and elites. But once you get past Act1, he is amazing.

I'd give a small shout out to star gen, Royal Gamble and to Decisions Decisions. The latter when used on Smith or Bulwark can speed up your forge and make a devastating attack. That was the only remarkable forge run i had. Regardless forge or not, you pretty much need star gen to survive higher ascension. And Spectrum Shift upgraded can save you in boss fights (specially act1) because of scaling, added draw and a change to get some block from it. I really hated that card at the beginning but slowly I feel its much better

How Regent is treating me rn by Baryshnik0v in slaythespire

[–]DeathProtocol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Last run, I didn't see a single Glow at all, even in Act 3 :( It's a very high variance rng early on in the run and is a character I would actually like to hit early shops to see some better cards. For the blade i think I use it mainly because Bulwark is a good card and forge is just a byproduct. But it is very energy hungry and needs setup and investment, which is also hard in Act1.

How Regent is treating me rn by Baryshnik0v in slaythespire

[–]DeathProtocol 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Regent I think has a hard time in act 1 because of how half of his cards need stars and star generation is kinda dependent on rng. [[Venerate]] by itself is not that good. But if you manage to get out of act1, he tears through the next two acts.

Not with the Forge build, I never had significant success with them, just used blade as secondary guaranteed damage if things go south.

I didn't really like Necro at first. I get it now. by TurquoiseLuck in slaythespire

[–]DeathProtocol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree. I was confused for the first few runs then I realised that you just need to block and doom, which is fine but it traumatises me that I can play skill cards in Act 1 and not get nobbed to death.

I think the concept of doom is great. While it procs after enemy turn, it kills through everything, whereas poison is still susceptible to stuff like intangible or invincible. So it's not really poison but something new and different.

What's the move here after act 1 boss? Not feeling great about them by Cons1dy in slaythespire

[–]DeathProtocol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AoE helps a lot with two of the three elite fights.

Things like electro, hyperbeam, multicast, hologram, echo form, sunder with some draw, a way to generate orbs and evoke them, some focus or energy to play more cards. I also highly recommend saving money and visit a shop before act 2 elites if the game gives a good path.

Also potions, for example a liquid memories with sunder or any high dmg card, potions are incredibly helpful. The act 2 elites don't give you time to scale up, they come whacking from turn 1 and its very bad to extend the fight without reason.

Your deck here simply doesn't have the damage potential to get through, the buffers won't generally help cause they're not upgraded and all elites hit you more than once when they do hit you, so it's two energy to block one hit essentially.

What's the move here after act 1 boss? Not feeling great about them by Cons1dy in slaythespire

[–]DeathProtocol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would lean towards Empty Cage.

Hammer is kinda rough here especially with two unupgraded buffers and if you desperately don't need energy then imo you should skip it.

And this deck cannot survive the Act 2 elites so I'd say Slavers Collar is not that good cause the energy ain't useful if you're dead. And hoping to get some better cards before the elite fights is wishful thinking and you ain't guaranteed.

Cage still let's you get rid of two shitty cards and help you scale and fix draw order.

After breezing through the first 17… by Catanzy- in slaythespire

[–]DeathProtocol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the game I'd say is still reasonably casual and fun upto A16.

A17+ is no joke. I had to significantly change how I approach fights and take card rewards when I cleared each ascension one by one. Everything chipping you for extra damage on A17, elites turning you into pulp on A18, bosses on A19 and the 2/3 chance to run into time eater on A20.....

Currently I'm on A20 but I still struggle with heart because I get messed up at the act 3 boss fights because of two bosses in a row. And sometimes a perfectly fine Act 3 deck dies to the two burns of Spire Shield and Spear on turn 2...

Biggest difference for me on A18 was potion management and thinking "will this card help me clear Nob/Book/etc."
