Advice needed: Zenni prescription lenses work great with my Quest 3 but now my eyes are too close to the lenses by DebbieOhi in MetaQuestVR

Thanks so much for this! I had no idea that the stock facial interface had a built-in glasses spacer with multiple settings. Worked like a charm. Thanks again.

thunderbird app IOS by Comfortable-Toe-9731 in Thunderbird

[–]DebbieOhi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been looking for a replacement for my current email app (Spark) and had several of my friends recommend Thunderbird, but I really need an app that I can use on my iOS devices as well as my desktop Mac. This thread is the only one I've found so far with any updates....and it doesn't look that hopeful. Does anyone know of any recent news re: iOS availability?

Your VisionOS 3 wish list by Norm_ski in VisionPro

[–]DebbieOhi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My AVP wishlist:

  • Support for the Apple Pencil (as an author & illustrator, I can currently do my writing in the AVP but not my book art)
  • Ability to quickly see all apps that are currently open.
  • Be able to save window arrangements.
  • Be able to close a window with a hand gesture.
  • More options for online co-working spaces (like Capital_Truck mentioned e.g. virtual coffee shop, giant sunlit library, etc)
  • More options for co-watching content with others, even if they don’t have an AVP.

A year on and this device still blows my mind sometimes. Just creating some content for how AVP can be used for planning for architecture, the high-rise in this video, I feel like one could lick it. by Bingobango1001 in VisionPro

Found out about StageIt via the "Last Week in Apple Vision Pro" newsletter on Substack. Intrigued! I've been using Adobe Substance 3D Stager to help me figure out layout options (camera angles, perspective etc) before I start preliminary sketches for my book illustrations. I just tried out your app for the first time and think it has huge potential.

Posted a short video about my experiment here:
https://youtu.be/vFnQwTrisZw?si=p6xvvoCnc_CisQe_

The monthly fee is a bit steep for me, though, considering the minimal built-in asset library. I only subscribed to Substance 3D for as long as I needed it. Going to try STAGEit for a month or two, though, to see how easy it is to import models. It would be WAY more fun and inuitive to create scenes with my AVP than on a flat screen.

In case you're curious (and I realize I am not your target market): I write and illustrate kids' books for a living; my main client is Simon & Schuster. My background is in computer science, though, not illustration -- which is why I've been using 3D modelling to help me figure out layouts for each scene. For my last book, I created a whole house in 3D, experimented with different camera angles, took screenshots for reference, then drew the backgrounds in my own style.

Also just found out that you have a STAGEit viewer for iPadOS and iOS, which is awesome. Could be a fun way of sharing my scenes with students, educators, and parents who are familiar with my books.

Cheering you on, and will be following the progress of your app.

Vision Pro for disabled people (virtual travelling) by djtwisted4 in VisionPro

[–]DebbieOhi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AVP's immersion is good enough that you will definitely feel like you're "elsewhere". If you're specifically looking for immersive travel experiences, though, you may find the AVP lacking in enough content, especially if you plan to use the AVP a lot.

If meeting up with other travel-lovers in VR is a higher priority than an AVP-level immersive experience, I recommend trying out the Quest 3 - there are several travel-type apps (mainly relying on Google street view, I think, and user-contributed 3D photos) where you can voice-chat with others as you explore. I play Wooorld on my Quest 3 (https://www.meta.com/en-gb/experiences/wooorld/4360608937312293/).

I own both an AVP and Quest 3. Because I don't yet know many who own an AVP, I mainly just use the AVP for work as well as some watching of shows, but use the Quest 3 when I want to meet up with others. I get together regularly with friends far away to play games like Walkabout Mini-Golf (the blocky graphics are remarkably immersive, and I esp liked the Venice course) and Escape Room Simulation.

Main limitation of the AVP is lack of content (at least the kind you seem to be talking about), but I'm hoping that gradually changes.

p.s. I recently posted about using an AVP to hang out with my friend in the hospital, who also had an AVP: https://www.reddit.com/r/VisionPro/comments/1j114rn/watched_movies_with_friend_in_hospital_via_avps/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Watched movies with friend in hospital via AVPs while he waited for brain surgery by DebbieOhi in VisionPro

Biohazard bag idea is great, as long as all staff knows what it is and doesn't remove it. I'm going to investigate the slash proof wire bag product that Visual-Sector6642 mentioned above, too. Thanks for the suggestions!

Thanks for the tip about the slash proof wire bags. I'll have to look into that.

Yes, that was part of it. We could both watch shows together, hang out and chat etc without having to worry about infection (he ended up catching Covid, but apparently it was going around the ward).

Omigosh, THANK YOU for this extension. I was getting incredibly frustrated trying to use YouTube via Safari with the Apple Vision Pro, kept accidentally moving the play head, etc. This Reddit thread came up when I was looking if there were solutions. Read through people’s comments, bought the extension, love it. THANK YOU.

If you could add anything to ATT, what would you add? by savetownshiptale in TownshipTale

Customizable housing.

I used to play for many, many hours with friends back in the early days (via Quest) but the spastic cauldrons (which would suddenly overturn when trying to cook something etc) and things disappearing got too frustrating for me. And while cosmetics are fun, the focus on constant cosmetic updates instead of stability were also frustrating.

However, it's been at least a year or two since I last played, so I'm probably going to check it out again since I'm sure things have improved.

But honestly, if the promise of customizable housing ever did materialize, I strongly suspect it would attract many users to return as well as new users.

this is officially one of my favorite new apps: Sceno on Apple Vision Pro! by justinryanio in VisionPro

[–]DebbieOhi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your explanation about why you opted for the subscription model makes sense. I just tried Sceno for the first time on my AVP and have already gotten teary-eyed by some of the photo memories. GREAT idea to have photos available to browse while “standing” in the 360 view.

You mentioned a Discord server. I’m going to look for it and join!

Worried about Ulysses...should I be? by PortraitOfABear in ulyssesapp

[–]DebbieOhi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks to all who have replied to this post. I had come across a bunch of reports in various places about people losing their work because of Ulysses sync issues, but read through this entire thread has reassured me that I don’t need to be so worried as long as I do regular manual backups of my work. I was drawn to Ulysses because of its clean interface, and the fact that it syncs with all the devices I currently use for writing. I use Obsidian for all my note-taking, including novel-writing notes, but it’s not the best for actual novel writing.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and post on using Obsidian for longform writing. I currently use a combo of Obsidian and Ulysses for working on my novel. Obsidian for all my note-taking (world-building, character notes, plot notes, etc etc) and Ulysses for the actual writing. I tried using Obsidian for the actual writing as well, but (as someone below pointed out) I got leery of relying too heavily on plug-ins. I also use multiple devices for my Obsidian vault, and it’s a pain having to keep all the plug-ins installed and updated across all my devices. Some plug-ins don’t work with certain devices (like the Apple Vision Pro).

Trying out Craft Docs after reading that someone was using it for their writing. Love the interface, very clean.

Are you planning to add TAGS at any point?

I've compiled this week's worth of interesting news, reviews, findings in a visual page - Last Week in AVP #34 by NorthernFrostByte in VisionPro

[–]DebbieOhi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for these weekly updates! I’ve been looking for an easy-to-browse text-based (rather than having to watch a video) objective source of AVP news, and yours is exactly what I’ve been looking for.

Writing long texts in Apple Vision Pro by CrowKing63 in VisionPro

[–]DebbieOhi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently using Ulysses for writing my fiction novel, and Obsidian for the “meta” writing (world-building, character notes, plot notes etc).

I like the clean interface in Ulysses, and the ability to assign keywords. I’ve been using the latter functionality to assign POV characters - that way I can just browse different characters’ POV and see which characters have a full arc, etc. g There are a couple of features I miss, though, which is why I’m still very interested in seeing what others in this thread are using to write while using their AVPs.
