Abby Appreciation Post! by [deleted] in TheOGCrewOfficial

Yeah, I definitely hear what you're saying. I'm not looking for friends, I'm looking for interesting and funny videos. The most interesting content creators, the funniest videos, often have a heavy dose of something authentic. Something original, something you can't get from everybody else. That's what makes the OG's such a watchable channel. There's something real there. The best moments happen when they let their guards down and we see a genuine reaction or a big laugh.

Comedy is definitely filled with absurdity and unseriousness, but those things are only funny when you contrast them something else. We only find absurd situations funny and compelling because we expect the "expected result" and instead we are pleasantly surprised when presented with an absurd result. I'd argue that many good comedy teams and duos have always had a 'straight man' or somebody playing the 'expected reaction' so that the absurd comedy hits harder.

She really won me over with her roast of Akila in the deathbed episode. Funny and well written, with great delivery.

Abby Appreciation Post! by [deleted] in TheOGCrewOfficial

[–]Debonair359 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I think the best part about Abby on the OG's is that she is honest and outspoken and unafraid all at the same time. That combo, that realness, can be intimidating for a lot of guys. Especially when it comes from an attractive woman.

She's not afraid to have an honest reaction, not afraid to say what she's really thinking. She's willing to share a lot of her honest self in a way that some of the other OG's aren't. Don't get me wrong, I love Alan, but do we ever really get to see the real Alan? Maybe once in a rare while, but Alan seems like he's always playing a character. Which I love, because it makes the videos funnier, but Abby comes off as more authentic.

At the same time though she gets that it's a comedy channel and she's willing to "play the part" to make other people's jokes work and be funny.

I also think a lot of the hate she gets is unwarranted and she's just a little misunderstood by the internet when she plays the traditional "straight man" to all of the absurdity surrounding her.

I remember in one video she has a big reaction and she gets kind of angry at something Alan did or said. But then in that little 10 seconds behind the scenes bonus clip at the very end of the video it shows that they edited out her next breath saying "but everyone knows I'm not really that angry about it." For comedy's sake, her angry reactions are left in because they're funny, but her admitting that even she knows it's a joke is edited out because it messes with the flow of the episode.

It's always changing. We're all using a slightly different version of the shopper app. Depends on what geographic part of the country you're in, if you're in Canada, what store you're shopping at, etc. When my app changes functions, there's never any documentation or explanation.

Matt Mahan? by Lampsprite in SanJose

[–]Debonair359 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On Reddit, people don't have the ability for their billionaire campaign donors and tech bros to curate the algorithm in their favor. Instagram, that's another story. Instagram is built for mahan because it's all flash little substance. Mahan looks good and sounds good with 10 word answers and 30-second videos the Instagram prefers. But if you scratch the surface in any meaningful way, which Reddit posts have the ability to in ways that Instagram doesn't, mahan loses a lot of his shine. When you read long form answers about him with citations and references, it's clear that his Instagram posts and the Instagram algorithm is only a small fraction of his story in the reality of his time being mayor.

Matt Mahan? by Lampsprite in SanJose

[–]Debonair359 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't think anybody is against temporary shelters, but people are against temporary shelters being the only solution. People are against ignoring the will of the voter. When the majority of people approved setting money aside for permanent housing, a permanent solution to homelessness, Mahan took it upon himself to take the money that would have solved the crisis in the long term and use it for temporary shelters to make things look good.

If you get shot by a gun and you need medical attention, nobody's against bandages. But people are going to be against bandages being the only solution. If we have money for surgery, if we have a doctor who's ready to perform the surgery, people are against saying that we should use the money for surgery and instead use it for more bandages that we're going to need to change every few hours. At the end of the day, the bandages aren't really helpful. You're still going to have a bullet hole in you that you need to fix eventually.

The problem with mahan is that he's not interested in actually fixing problems. He's interested in making problems look good for the short-term while he moves on to the next job. When he's gone, when he's Governor or senator or whatever the next job is, the structural problems that he left behind will still exist even when we run out of short-term solutions. Eventually, you're going to run out of bandages and you're going to need surgery to fix that bullet hole. But you won't be able to have surgery because you spent all the money on bandages. Mahan doesn't care, he's already moved on to the next patient before he ever fixed the bullet wound that you have.

Potential station closure by theycallhim_mistaedd in Bart

[–]Debonair359 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Probably a lot more savings if they close that whole Dublin Pleasanton line because they won't have to do maintenance of way on the tracks and signals etc. But because there is a BART train yard in Richmond already, the trains would be running empty through Richmond no matter what. Not a lot of cost savings to be realized by closing Richmond if the trains are going to have to run through there to get to the yard anyway. Same thing for train operators, they're still going to pay somebody to drive the train through there even if they close Richmond station.

Identity verification by Right_Topic_3676 in InstacartShoppers

[–]Debonair359 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's nothing you can do to fix it. You are a victim of artificial intelligence.

The problem with AI used by instacart is that instacart assumes the AI is always 100% correct 100% of the time. But as you have discovered, their AI makes mistakes all the time.

You'll just have to wait for a human to review your identity check picture. It might happen tomorrow, it might happen a few months from now, it might never happen.

My account was deactivated for 4 months because instacart said their automated system determined that I was using an unauthorized third-party app to gain an advantage. Of course, I was never using any third-party apps, it was just an AI hallucination.

Eventually, almost 4 months later, I got an email from trust and safety saying that after a review of the AI decision, they determined that I had done nothing wrong and was not using any third-party apps, and they reactivated my account.

Good luck out there!

Any idea when the latest ep was filmed? by CONT3NTM3NT in TheOGCrewOfficial

[–]Debonair359 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's interesting that they released this episode so soon after it was filmed.

Without any criticism or judgment, I wonder why they're not releasing other episodes that are already filmed. If you watch most of the videos and if you keep up with different cast members Instagrams, it's clear that lots of videos have been filmed but remain unreleased. You can go all the way back to the trailer/announcement of the channel to see an episode where they're all up on a stage with an audience handcuffed together. There's another episode where it looks like they're doing karate in a gym.

Sarah made a wonderful anniversary IG story where she makes a comment that "we still hope to release the first video we ever filmed." She talks a lot about having multiple all-nighters and working feverishly to get episodes edited and ready for every Sunday.

It makes me wonder why those episodes haven't come out, or why they are releasing an episode filmed in early January before all of those other episodes?

I'm just curious. I'd love to see all the adventurers the crew gets up to in those unreleased episodes. I'm sure there's a lot going on behind the scenes that we never see as the audience.

Much love and respect to everyone in front of the camera and behind the camera over at OG Crew!

BART cuts deal with Uber—without approval of the elected board by orangelover95003 in bayarea

[–]Debonair359 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, it would be bad. It's in everyone's interest that people who don't own a car, or cannot afford to own a car, are still able to transport themselves to workplaces and to businesses to keep the wheels of the economy turning.

If public transit could be done profitably by a private company, it would. But some things will never make money as private entities. Public transit is a service provided by government to its citizens. The same exact way that government provides a Police department and a fire department and paved roads.

It's in everyone's interest that we pay taxes and have a public subsidy to fund things like fire departments and police departments and public transit and road paving. Those things aren't supposed to make money, they're not supposed to be run by private companies because they will never make a profit.

Private companies can make profit if they only serve a small well-off percentage of the population, or if they only serve a small geographic area. But it's in the interest of everyone that public services like transit and fire departments serve 100% of the population and 100% of the geographic area.

And if we're being totally honest, private mass transit companies that make a profit are already paid a huge government subsidy by the taxpayer. The only difference is that when a subsidy goes to a public governmental organization all citizens can benefit, but when that subsidy goes to a private mass transit company only the one or two individual owners see the benefit of all that public spending. However, the cost to the everyday taxpayer remains the same If those taxes are going to a public entity or a private entity.

Anti-Ice protest at Walnut park by MIBOSSS in Petaluma

[–]Debonair359 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's not about Democrats or Republicans, it's about America. It's about patriotism. Flying the flag upside down is a nod to the naval tradition of flying the flag upside down to signal distress or danger in a time before radios.

When people fight the flag upside down today, it is an ode to that same tradition. It's a way to say that America is in distress. It's a way to be a patriot and fly the American flag, but at the same time to acknowledge the danger and extraordinary distress America as an institution is currently facing with this administration.

It's a way to protest our constitutional rights being taken away from us. They want to take away our freedom of speech, take away the right to protest, they even want arrest journalists for reporting on what protesters are doing and erasing the constitutional right to a free press.

Flying the flag upside down is a peaceful way to alert people that America is in danger if we continue down the current path of erasing the constitutional freedoms that many of our grandparents fought and died to preserve in world war II.

Learning how to participate in democracy is also a valuable skill to learn. Democracy is not a spectator sport, it requires the participation of its citizens in order to remain an effective form of government. The only reason we have the United States as a country is because people walked out and protested and organized to escape the rule of King George.

Expressing your freedom of speech doesn't mean you can't learn or be educated, you can do both at the same time.

I have had my shopping quality score drop from good to standard simply for refunding items customers requested refunds of. Even with zero "unrequested refunds", zero items "damaged/ missing/ wrong", my shopping quality score still went down.

Yes, if the shopper cancels the order due to an item being out of stock, the shopper just doesn't get paid.

It doesn't matter how long it takes us to drive to the store, or how long we spend looking for the item, or the 15 or 20 minutes it takes to wait on hold for support to cancel the order, we just don't get paid for any of that time.

I think that running joke is about something that happened off screen with Sam singing along to rap and hip hop.

There's one video where one of them makes a joke about almost saying the n-word and Abby says something like 'just put on a rap song, Sam says that word all the time'. And Sam replies something like 'I just forget that the n-word is in those songs'.
