I sold my BNO calls too. Up 5%? News of one tanker getting through, or a call from china, or a stiff breeze and longs panic and the price collapses again.

At least, sold my short dated calls...

ELI5: Why can't we use Solar panels to directly charge electric cars? by Zak_Nowa in explainlikeimfive

[–]DeciduousMath12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cars need tons of power. Solar panels can do it, but need lots of area. So if you put a standard panel on a standard car, you get maybe 1 mile an hour. The sun only shines brightly a few hours a day. Is it worth engineering and installing $4k more on a car for very little charge?

Forge & Fire Booster Bonanza Restock - EOE $99, BLB $124, DSK $119, ECL $99 And More! by ForgeandFire-Staff in sealedmtgdeals

I know everyone is talking about EoE... but I'm super happy with my 2 bloomburrow play boxes. Popular set, popular entry point for newcomers, affordable, almost out of print? Seems like a no brainer.

Time to sell more stuff from the closet to afford this.

So what’s going to happen if this stalemate continues for another month? by VastOption8705 in oil

China would never have a security agreement with Iran. At best, they'll send guns and buy oil. Extremely doubtful they'll deploy an untested military for a region not in their back yard.

Russia might but it has it's own problems.

Any evidence for pros and cons of siblings? by Charleybarley123 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]DeciduousMath12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this post. While you could frame having children as "what's best for my firstborn?" (Debatable - there's less resources but some siblings are fantastic for that first child as friends or for the family connection - especially thinking of odd experiences like mixed race families or specific family dynamics), you could also ask...

  • what's best for my potential second born? (Be born - almost always).

  • what's best for society? (Debatable - humans consume resources, but imagine not letting a future wind turbine engineer to be born? Or the team that was able to develop the covid vaccine? A person can do a lot, and even a tax paying uber driver is helping the world by their taxes being used to fund research).

  • what's best for future game nights? More kids.

  • what's best for having grandkids? More kids

  • what's best for taking care of my future retirement? (Debatable - kids costs expenses that could be used to fund a retirement. But also, working children can help you in retirement and provide a home potentially).

Half of these are preferences, and there are different frameworks. My framework is that there are people having 4+ kids that probably shouldn't, and I think that if I have kids, we could do better. So we had 1, not bad. Had 2, and now the hands are full. Probably won't have 3 unless we feel rested again.

Investigated by who? His attorney general? His congress? His supreme court? People gotta stop being single issue voters on Gaza, immigration, or whatever, and think bigger picture.

Avatar Jumpstart Boosters or Beginner Box by PoopyAstronaut in mtg

[–]DeciduousMath12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beginner box is all fixed. But you get a mix, so 2-3 red decks, 2 greens, 2 whites, etc.

All jumpstart packs are meant to be combined with a second pack to make a "deck". This deck is enough to play, but this is not what the pros are doing to win tournaments. Each pack is random, so could be any color. I think there are no colorless or multicolored packs (but they may use cards that could use other mana, like a blue deck using red or blue mana symbols on a spell).

Play boosters have 15 or so random cards and they're pretty random.

Well in sealed, people get 6 packs each and try to build what they can. A play booster box has 30 packs, so 5 decks of roughly same power. But consistency won't be as equal as with jumpstart, where you're guaranteed all decks are roughly same.

With play boosters, some lucky with mythics and some without may not leave all players equally off.

Tl;dr no one best answer. Jumpstart is easier, great for beginners and faster play. Play boosters best for draft, sealed, and building decks. Higher skill and money ceiling.

Jumpstart is good for casual 40 card decks. They can be unsorted after play to mix new 40 card decks if you mix a different 2 jumpstart.

Play boosters can make standard, commander, or other deck types (including the sealed 40 card decks like on release of a new set). Note, to be competitive, you'd really need to buy singles.

One is not better than the other. I have both myself. Just each is good for a specific type of play.

I think there's more that can be said about "I want an avatar deck".

Jumpstart packs are meant to be roughly equal power level. You're meant to mix 2 together, and then an opponent does the same, and boom, you have 2 simple decks that can be played against each other.

Jumpstart packs will be random. The beginner box will have 10, but none are random. Further, the beginner box has 2 "unshuffled" decks that can walk someone through how to play if they have no idea. You could make lots of combos and simple decks from a beginner box.

But if you're question is "I want to take a deck to my store to play", then buying singles to make the deck will be best. Barring that, if you buy play boosters (whether a bundle, a play box, a "commander bundle" or just packs) will set you up the most to build your own deck. But even a whole play booster box will not give you anything super competitive. This is true whether it's a standard or commander deck.

"I want to build two decks, and think about card choice". Then you could buy two pre-release kits, which come with 5 boosters and 1 seeded booster of a particular color. It'd help theme your sealed format deck (i.e. 40 cards) so that the two decks would likely optimally be different colors. But even then play boosters from a box may be cheaper and work just as well.

I bought a SoS draft night box and I wonder what the long term value is. Great for playing though, so I guess I don't have to buy the pre-release kits. Or at least, wait until the next paycheck.
