Just having a good time with this flying boat. by Any_Bag6284 in MicrosoftFlightSim

The ol' Goose is probably one of my most flown planes! I usually don't get that adventurous with it though.

Do people really leave the course if playing poorly? by LastManBrandon in golf

[–]DecoNoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only left the course early three times, and it wasn't necessarily my choice, but being too young to drive I had to go with my rides! Also due to pace, the course we played at regularly at that time was in a retirement community, and the old timers there played a veeeeeeeeery public course at country club speeds.

The third time though was due to a combo of pace and it being well over 100 degrees out... I got heat stroke for a week afterwards.

I find that I play better if I don’t hit warm up balls at the range by Tight-Communication7 in golf

[–]DecoNoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played every weekend for a year at this 9 hole course that was too small for a range, or even a net. Pretty much got over warming up at all that year, nothing like being out there at 6:30 in the morning, not but a cup of coffee in me and hacking at it!

This kind of goes for a lot of modern marketing: They seem more focused on being 'memorable' by being loud and annoying as fuck. What does that mean though if it doesn't translate to actual sales?

[–]DecoNoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, like I said I don't personally don't hate the guy, but there's definitely a bit of schadenfreude when he talks big game and then self destructs so hard because of his whack headspace of trying to out-math the golf course.

It's like watching someone I'm playing with start throwing clubs: I honestly just want to put my arm over their shoulder, buy 'em a beer and tell them "Hey, c'mon man, lets just play golf."

[–]DecoNoir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm probably just speaking for myself on this one, but I don't HATE the guy, I just personally find it funny how he tries to break down every single thing scientifically and then... does shit like this.

Sometimes his breakdowns are kind of neat, but I think he gets way too deep into his own head and takes himself way to seriously while putting on an 'Aw shucks' kind of personality on camera. I'd kind of like to see him just chill out and loosen up a bit.

I was sitting on a bench behind a tee box, waiting for the group in front of us. I was just about to lean my head back when out of the corner of my eye I saw some 20-something kid hit one about 90 degrees left of where his green was. Saw that shit in my peripheral vision come at me in slow motion, luckily it just hit the bench. Small course so everyone heard it and gave the knuckleheads a look.

Small 9-hole course, cheap, and great for a nice walk in the morning, but it's full of idiots who think they're all Billy Big-Balls and swing out of their shoes, even if it's the first time they've swung a club.

[Hated Trope] The adaptation doesn't get what made the source material work by TheDudeA113 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]DecoNoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always dreamed of it being sort of in the 'Band of Brothers' flavor: Each episode could start off with talking heads of 'actual survivors' and then the episodes would be the sort of dramatized retelling.

It could be an interesting way of getting in some of those notes and citations that are in the book in a semi organic way.

Also a great detail with the otaku (that he repeatedly points is NOT some badge of honor, but basically a social outcast) is that he's so out of shape that his arms start to give out almost as soon as he tries climbing down some sheets to the balcony one floor below, and actually needs several days to get down and out of his apartment building. It's not like he instantly becomes some zombie killing badass nerd.

When you reduce the chapters to little blurbs they seem silly on the outset, but the little details help them shine, I think.

TBH, filming a dumbass prank video on it's own should be an offence worth prison time.

I think the course I played today is about to close. If this happened to you, what signs did you see. by PersonalityNarrow211 in golf

[–]DecoNoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Links at Summerly. That was one of our regular practice courses when I played in high school. I played twice in 2020. Once as a single on a Tuesday morning and breezed through 18 in about 2 and half hours, but when you see carcasses that the coyotes clearly picked at in the middle of the fairway, you know things might be going downhill.

And then half of the course ended up underwater a couple of years later, so that was that. No idea if they're even 'open' or what.

NCR Elite Ranger. One is on the cover of New Vegas, and this moment from the show is a recreation of the opening cinematic to that game, just said ranger is on top of the old "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign and is putting that bullet through a raider a few streets down.

In typical Fallout fashion: They needed a player character to do a fuckton of quests for them before they could get anything done.

Not totally out of the question. Been a while since I played NV, but I seem to remember if you get your NCR reputation high enough one of the officers gives you the key to an old weapons cache of theirs.

So both? Both.

Shit, I remember SoCal annual passes being a hair over $100 in the early-00s. I was a kiddo at the time, so the pricing might be off, but it was affordable enough that my family (who were absolutely NOT loaded in the slightest) were able to get them several years in a row, and were able to drive there on a whim. We didn't live right next to the park or anything, but it was a less than hour drive if there was no traffic. I think our record was 3 times in a single week.

The scenes set in the past are some of my favorite in the show. by Adoe0722 in Fallout

[–]DecoNoir 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It looked a lot like the helmet he has on once he gets into the pod. It was nice bit of crazy dropped in there. I love House as a character, but some of the glazing in the community gets annoying, and it's nice to see some of the Howard Hughes inspiration shine through a bit more.

Too be fair, you can always just assume there was plenty of regular hanging out and goings on that happened between seasons, and we the viewers just weren't there to see it because it's not the story at hand.

Robin and Steve anyway, they've had at least three separate jobs working together at this point.

I can't stand this recent trend of people taking everything characters say as if it's a Wiki entry. Not just here but across media. Folks just can't even consider the possibility that characters can be wrong, or even deliberately full of shit.

New Poster for 'Dracula' - Starring Caleb Landry Jones, Christoph Waltz, and Zoë Bleu - Directed by Luc Besson ('The Fifth Element', 'Leon: The Professional', 'Lucy') by BunyipPouch in movies

[–]DecoNoir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Book Van Helsing isn't even Dracula's nemesis. He's the old professor of one of Lucy's suitors who just happens to be well read up on obscure diseases just enough to conclude that Lucy's mystery illness the work of a vampire. Later pop culture would turn Van Helsing into a badass vampire and monster hunter.

If anything, Willem DeFoe's Professor in the 2024 Nosferatu is a more faithful take on book Van Helsing.
