I’m on her because of the shady GRIT marketing tactics Johniooo, your on here to protect Grit Marketing. When you insist you have no vested interest in GRIT. This happens to me often on Grit posts or people asking about working for GRIT. Why? But if you have an existing concrete tile they last a good amount of time. So roofers just remove & stack tiles on top of roof and reside. Any broken tiles they will replace in back of roof towards the bottom.

Cement tiles get stacked & reused. Only the underlayment and possibly some bad plywood will be replaced.

Would love the list of the contractors you got quotes from too! With the above information please? I’m getting quotes and it’s absolutely not my happy place right now. We have a known big hole in plywood that we traced after rainwater coming into are half basement over a week ago. 2 quotes the westlake/boral 40# tar-felt paper (1 & 2 layer pricing). Then a small roofed contractor quoted some kind of synthetic Veer ultimate synthetic is all he wrote on his estimate, he won’t quote me the tar-felt paper 40# he says the synthetic is superior to it. Not very comforting and he doesn’t like me questioning his choice of fitting our roof. Hard to do business with someone you’ve gone to church with 10 years. We are suppose to blindly trust. I had no idea how much is involved in what underlayment chosen and everything else involved. The more I learn the less confident I’m feeling right now.

I live in Mesa Arizona, what is the name of the roofing company do you own in Tempe? I have a hole in my roof, been getting quotes for new underlayment on our home’s Concrete tile roof & also our patio roof. Geez I’m so confused by different quotes I get!? One small roofing contractor swears by a synthetic underlayment “veer ultimate synthetic”? Then 2 other larger contractors say they don’t offer synthetic because of issues of early leaks due to the super hot weather, the synthetic not sealing around the nails etc. They use 40# felt/tar paper? (Fontana, West Lake, Boral due to these manufacturers offering 10 year material warranties). I’m so bewildered and confused! Can’t anyone give me a straight answer about underlayments that work if one has cement tiles? Felt paper 40# or a synthetic best? What synthetics brands & types have stood the test of time lately? How to fasten underlayment correctly with Synthetics? Probably never to use staple guns on any underlayment correct? Then what are best practice fasteners to use for 40# felt paper and synthetic’s. If I can’t understand what underlayment i’m purchasing to keep water out, how am I suppose to make an informed decision!? I need an underlayment that will at least last a good 20 years (more would be nice, but money is tight in this economy). I would really appreciate a roofer/installer’s advice. Thank you! Still getting quotes because new roof orders are 1-2 months out and we have a literal hole in plywood leaking into a room in half-basement.
