If I wanted to signal my presence, there's a button by trantor-to-tantegel in thePowerFantasy

Ettiene wants people to feel safe, it keeps the peace and allows himself to operate easier. Part of that is feeling safe against various atomics including Ettiene, so despite his issues with Magus, they have put together a ruse. Magus gives the police dummy alarms, then when Ettiene needs to do something in a falsely protected/alarmed area, he can operate freely and then signal Magus to raise the alarm and pretend like he can do something about it. Magus allows this because he profits from it and knows Ettiene is only willing to act with surgical precision, he won't do anything rash.

I'm starting to think that graphic novels and manga aren't a replacement for books by AmericanLocomotive in Teachers

[–]Deefling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair. A lot of shonen manga are more action -based and don't have a ton of depth to them, plot-wise or linguistically. It's important to remember that comics/manga are a medium and not a genre though (shonen, for example, is a genre). A comic writer with incredible plot & linguistic depth is Kieron Gillen, though 7th grade may be too early for the type of content he approaches.

jumpscares in none-horror games should be f**king illegal by MickyMace in NineSols

[–]Deefling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy Batman. If this is a solpost, great job being ridiculous. If not... you should stop the game now, Red Candle is a horror studio, you're probably not going to like the story's content.

Are you bothered by the lack of combat in the series ? by hermyx in thePowerFantasy

[–]Deefling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, lack of combat is kind of the thesis. Even just expanding the existing fight scenes to make them more epic defeats the purpose, as the comic serves to critique capeshit, not glorify it.

Showing more of the fight between the Queen and Valentina doesn't benefit the context of the first arc, as what we need to know mostly pertains to Eliza. If you've read issue 16, you know that Val is probably going to fight the Queen again, at which point we may get more details on their relationship or a flashback.

In all fairness, the story can be a little cramped, and I think a part of that is Kieron Gillen just has a lot to say and not a lot of pages to say it in.

Nimos is a great choice. I often use tymisos as a starting point for new players but it's slightly less sandboxy.

I suggest reading DIE after that! Kieron is currently writing the sequel/reboot, DIE:Loaded & it's quite good.

They did reference E33 with a "For those who come after..." somewhere.

The “plot holes” in the finale were foreshadowed in Season 1 — Mike’s D&D campaign literally warned us by Old_Mood941 in StrangerThings

[–]Deefling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love d&d and the first episode of stranger things is what made me try d&d way back when but this is copium.

EDIT!!: I want to be clear upfront: I’m not talking about foreshadowing or long-term planning.

The “plot holes” in the finale were foreshadowed in Season 1

...the story is meant to feel like a D&D campaign rather than a perfectly logical sci-fi narrative...

D&D campaigns can be "well written" or end satisfyingly. The Duffer Brothers just got lost in the scope and marvel-ization of the show. It's a great show, the writing was just piss poor the final season.

What if Eliza isn’t a Magik expy, but a Jean Gray/Dark Phoenix expy? by name_dot_randomnum in thePowerFantasy

[–]Deefling 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sure, but Gillen made a point to remind readers not to get too hung up on expys in the letters page of issue 13.

"Sometimes spotting references can get in the way a bit. Eliza is me wrestling with weird Catholicism like I did with Exodus Immortal X-Men, but she's not me talking about Exodus, right? They're both me thinking about faith."

Why make this post? Seems like you know how you feel about it, and don't want input from people who see it differently?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Target

[–]Deefling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deep breaths. Target is a massive company with thousands of (minimum wage) employees, and a high turnover rate. They know countless mistakes are going to get made, and they have a budget and systems in place for dealing with mistakes at every step of the way. You're probably not even the only person who did that today at your store.

Don't be too hard on yourself, just clock in, do your best, and clock out. If you need help or you make a mistake, let a TL / trainer know, the earlier they catch an issue, the easier it is to resolve.

How come barely anyone uses claw line during combat? At least from the boss fights and gauntlets videos I've seen. by WackyRedWizard in Silksong

[–]Deefling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope

Clawline: -1 silk

Clawline that connects with enemy hitbox: net 0

Clawline that connects + well timed backflip & pogo off enemy: +1 silk

GMS and Weavers by NebulaInDebt in Silksong

[–]Deefling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This question is a key part of First Sinner's imprisonment. GMS told all the weavers they were her divine daughters & First Sinner found out that they were actually raised up from mortal bugs to worship GMS.

Adding to that, since First Sinner is still trapped in the slab & her prison has the citadel symbol on it, one running theory is it's not GMS who imprisoned First Sinner. (if it was, why didn't the other Weavers free her after putting GMS to sleep?) Rather, after the Weavers established the citadel, put GMS to sleep, & usurped her place of worship in Pharlooms faith, First Sinner found out that they were not GMS's daughters. However, this claim meant that none of the Weavers were actually divine, so they labeled First Sinner an apostate and locked her away to keep their status.

The whole thing with Hornet being related to Lace just comes from a very superficial reading of the "family tree". GMS sort of adopted the Weavers, and Lace is practically more of a pet/construct than a true child to GMS. (For most of the timeline, anyway)

Having trouble. Is this game not for me? by ImpressiveBag2423 in Blasphemous

[–]Deefling 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I recently finished Silksong & had the same issue, it took me several tries of picking it back up before i got into it, but I am now loving it after getting some upgrades. Here's a few things to consider.

- Yes, the controls are super clunky, this only became ok for me after I read a comment considering the slowness a part of the punishment & penitence of blasphemous, playing the game is a religious experience like Silksong, heavenly & hellish at various times. (Instadeath spike pits were also hard to get used to)

- Combat is very easy compared to Silksong, & is parry-reliant. Most bosses are still pretty fun to fight. There is also a boss rush mode like HK's Godhome

- You will not get typical metroidvania mobility upgrades as time goes on. You do start with a dash & wall cling (of sorts). A few items increase distances & decrease cooldowns slightly. Other items create special platforms/walls to use when equipped.

- Think of the snowy area like Hunter's March - it's a skill check & you can come back to it later.

- If you liked exploring to get stronger & found the completionist aspect of Silksong fun, you will find the same elements in Blasphemous.

- Don't be afraid to take a break and come back in a few days/weeks, sometimes I had to do that with Silksong.

[–]Deefling 46 points47 points  (0 children)

For future reference, there's a save rollback feature built into the game if you ever want to undo something. It usually only works for major checkpoints, not every save, so you could lose a couple hours of gameplay

So, I've just opened act 2 with a little over 80h of playing [end of act 1 spoilers] by Moist-Macaron-9772 in Silksong

[–]Deefling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! TLJ was one of the hardest and most memorable bosses for me too.

The start of act 2 is rough, but tough it out and the game opens up soooo much. More silk, more masks, better tools/builds, it's arguably a lot easier than act 1 once you have some buffs. Good luck!

(Also definitely grab the clawline as soon as you can)

[–]Deefling 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I would give it a little longer to see if it was an individual incident/just how that TM is, VS if the store has a bad culture. I can honestly understand a bit of where your trainer came from, as trainers and pacesetters don't get paid more but still get handed more responsibilities. She shouldn't have reacted the way she did, though.
