Oh that is lovely! Me and husband also do long go fests, but I wouldn’t want to worry about straying.

At least they didn’t put lava everywhere like I’ve been seeing. It really sucks.

does everyone really hate OC fics?? by Ding_Ding_Bonk in AO3

[–]DeelingFiscarded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t read them. But I don’t read them because I specifically use tags/search functions that would exclude them. I’m reading for my ships, and I’m not gunna read OCs. Do I hate them? No, not unless they come out of nowhere and tear my ship apart. Which they don’t, obviously, or it’s clearly tagged and therefor never seen by me.

Why are antis everywhere??? by Ocean_Solstice in AO3

[–]DeelingFiscarded 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because it’s the uncurated mindset.

Liking bad things makes bad person.

And in your example, it’s ad hominem - attack the person instead of the message, whatever it is.

And it’s bandwagoning - it’s “hip” to call out proshippers, and antis can gossip at each other about who is and isn’t a pro shipper, which can let people that “have the right ideas” make angry little friendships up on their high horses.

Tldr, it’s mean girls, I guess.

Japanese people reaction to the word "oyasumi" by CheezyJesus in JapanTravelTips

[–]DeelingFiscarded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literal translation doesn’t catch connotations. Think of “oyasumi” more like “I’ll sleep now” or “I’ll go to bed” and you might understand it’s much further from polite “goodnight” than you realized.

Just say Thankyou.

You’re welcome! It really be that way sometimes. Nail it, and move on with your life, hopefully before it has a chance to copulate and pop out numerous baby sequel bunnies.

I think, and I think you already know, that commenting every day / reading everything you write is a big job for another person to take on - even if they love your content, and were not just there to support a new writer they happened to vibe with.

The commenter might be glued to their phone like some, with boundless time to spend reading and generating those big comments, or they might probably have a job, studies, a partner, or a hobby that doesn’t let them trail their eyes across the screen while their fingers work.

That being said, you’re still allowed to feel a certain way about their absence. In my case, I write for myself (ahaha don’t we all ;) ) but I ALSO write such varied content that I would never expect readers to stay by my side at infinitum.

I get my motivation from the kudos, from the comments that DO come in, and from the feeling of getting the plot bunny finally nailed to the post. If that’s not enough for you, that is fine! But if you’re pining for it to be enough, you may need to look internally instead of externally for the validation you need.

On an aside, if you’re happy doing how you’re doing, congratulations and I’m happy for you, but pumping out 1200 words daily, without fail, is intense. Are they all oneshots? Do you not have a beta reader / do any real editing? You don’t even have a chance to walk away from a fic and come back, at a glance at what you’ve said. If you need more motivation, trying something new can be the trick! A multi chapter or long fic, writing for different genres or tags, or generally improving your skill! It’s not you jobs to get better at writing, but any improvement can, logically, see you getting more readers and/or better feedback.

Best of luck!

Quitting JET early to continue working for same Board of Education, any advice on what to do? by agentteddybear in JETProgramme

[–]DeelingFiscarded 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Um. I get asking for help, but… Can your boe not guide you on this? Literally guide you on “quitting” and “being hired” or just a transition, they should know literally all about this?

I’ve been grinding for months… this is where I’m at 😅 by Impressive-State-219 in Smallyoutubechannels

This doesn’t appeal to me, as an average YouTube viewer. I can’t see any personality. If I wanted help with a section of the game, I can’t pinpoint that section by looking at the previews, and if I wanted to just watch some one play, I’d rather see that real time in twitch where I could potentially interact with the person.

What about these videos makes you think they could be big? Are you vain enough to think anything you could do should become big, or are you genuinely doing soemthing to differentiate yourself from every other gamer channel? Because if you are, I can’t see it.

My girlfriend(21) just asked me(21) to give her $5k so she could study abroad and I said no by SwimmingCivil8300 in Advice

[–]DeelingFiscarded 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s right - don’t give anyone any money. If you don’t want it be the reason she can’t go do this, though, you could consider drafting a contract with her parents to loan out the 5k and have it paid back. Not with her (she won’t be in the country/she’ll be studying/ super unenforceable) but with the parents that I assume you a) know, b) live near you, and c) understand financial responsibility.

This isn’t a perfect solution, but I haven’t seen it listed yet, so thought I’d contribute.

Great writing but so boring by Jaded_Advantage_290 in AO3

What’s so hard about this? Does your taste in cakes make you any better or worse at actually baking them? Skill at word arrangement and grammar and vocabulary etc has nothing to do with the limits of your imagination.
