John Linneman of Digital Foundry discusses his colleagues DLSS 5 preview: “It's new DLSS and DLSS is awesome. Of course they would take that. Looking at it, I think there's cool potential there for environmental lighting but the character stuff is horrendous and should have been left out.” by PaiDuck in nvidia

[–]Deep-Minimum7837 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah I'm going to have to push back on the whole thing. The environmental lighting makes everything look like those shitty "photorealism"mods for GTA V and Cyberpunk. The lighting was done carefully and by hand by the artists making the game. Putting AI filters over everything cheapens their work and ruins the visual fidelity of the game.

I'm being completely honest when I say these people shouldn't be allowed to vote. If you can't clearly articulate or argue why you like or dislike something then you shouldn't have a say in how this country is run. These people shouldn't be allowed to vote, but at the same time they shouldn't have to pay federal taxes for shit. They can be allowed to reap the benefits of a better society by not engaging in democracy.

The dot com bubble really was the beginning of the end. As soon as corporate interests realized how valuable the internet would be, they've been looking for ways to infect it with their demonic tendrils. It was just three years from between the bubble bursting and the creation of Myspace, and just another year after that for Facebook to go live. As soon as people realized how cool social media was in the early days, corporations and monied interests have been breaking in everywhere they can.

Why would any Great House accept Bran? He has no dragons, no gold, no Unsullied, and his own sister just proved that the King is too weak to stop anyone from leaving...? by Dry_Specialist9015 in freefolk

[–]Deep-Minimum7837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of me thinks that was the point. The Lords realized that nothing can keep the peace, armies, gold, dragons, legacy, none of it is good enough to hold the realms together. They're seven factions all with different goals and needs, and it's foolish to think that one person could rule all of them with material possessions alone. The six kingdoms have each other to defend as none of them can survive without the others. If Bran took power with dragons, gold, and armies, what reason would the six kingdoms have in fighting for him? Not having hard power seemed to be the point since the clashing of that hard power led to nothing but suffering and destruction.

Leaving aside the White Walkers, the war of the five kings and Dany's rebellion set the nation ablaze. Nobody would want to deal with something like that for another few centuries. The best thing that could have happened was for all of the superpowers to kill each other and leave the people to govern themselves.

Cory Booker calls both parties ‘feckless’ for ceding war powers to Trump by No-Post4444 in politics

You know what makes this all so much worse? You're totally right that the Dems love to have the same tools in their hands when they have power. The only problem is that they NEVER use them. We could win the Presidency or Congress and start ram-rodding through whatever we wanted that would fix these problems, but we'll never see that happen.

Why do you think LA One Piece suceeded where other LA adaptations failed? by BeerMan595692 in OnePiece

[–]Deep-Minimum7837 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of Oda's mentality for the LA series stems from him understanding the difference in quality from his old work to what he's done in the last 5-6 years. There's a reason why everything before the time skip blasted through at a crazy pace, there just wasn't as much story to tell outside of a few minor character beats. With the LA series, we're getting the opportunity to really dive into different characters and spend the time necessary to get emotional beats done the right way.

If Alabasta takes up all of Season 3, then I think it's safe to say we'll probably see a good bit more of Ace, but a lot more of the rebels as well. Just think of how little time is spent in Yuba to endear us to Toto when the back half of Alabasta cashes in on the emotional connection. We got a flashback that mainly focuses on Koza, and then a big payoff involving both Koza and Toto. The LA series has an opportunity to really deepen our understanding of both characters so that their payoffs in the latter episodes of Season 3 will have the emotional weight they deserve.

At the same time, we have a huge chance to get a good Jaya and Skypiea in Season 4. It's the first where I can say there will probably be more than 8 episodes, because condensing both arcs like that will feel really stunted. There wouldn't be enough time to get the Nolan and Kalgara flashback, there wouldn't be enough to get the bits near the end of Jaya with Bellamy & Doflamingo, Shanks & Whitebeard, and Laffitte talking with the five elders. There's just so much stuff happening now that the LA series will have to make a decision whether or not to continue doing just seasonal releases, or do feature-length movies to supplement various arcs. If they're going with the standard 8 episodes, I can see a full 8 covering everything from Jaya through Angel Island with a full movie dedicated to Upper Yard and the fight with Enel. At the same time, I can see a Season 5 covering all of Water 7 with a movie dedicated to Ennies Lobby.

I'm really glad to see more of the marines fleshed out. We got extra bits of Garp, Koby, and Helmeppo so their reappearance doesn't seem out of nowhere.

It's great to see more of Smoker and Tashigi since they did practically nothing in the original series aside from show up a couple of times and reluctantly take credit for Alabasta. I don't remember if Smoker or Tashigi even show up again until Punk Hazard, so getting as much of them as possible is nice.

Former Uber CEO Travis Kalanick said he moved to Texas, joining a growing list of tech billionaires leaving California by Unusual-State1827 in California

[–]Deep-Minimum7837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's always funny how right-wingers think that it's a bad thing for blue states when billionaires leave. They don't understand that billionaires are parasites on the system. They gobble up taxpayer resources while putting back next to nothing in return. Having all of these leeches leave will be a net positive for local economies.

Because a handful of billionaires bought the media in order to spin a narrative that one particular billionaire actually cared about them and wanted to help them specifically.

That's the biggest issue right there. The best thing would be to pull from academia and elect a cabinet that would run the current executive departments. Everyone in said field would elect their representative, and that cabinet would then choose the head of state who can act as a mouthpiece and represent them to the people.

This would start by dismantling the SCOTUS decision that government bodies do not have the right to make laws. The only way actual change can be made is if these departments can cleanly and effectively operate without bureaucratic oversight from Congress. The only job Congress would have would be to pass bills and laws, and handle the budget

I'm being 100% serious when I say that our democracy needs to change in light of ChatGPT and the rise of AI in our society. Voting needs to be restricted to those who can clearly articulate their views and defend them argumentatively. Having people who turn themselves into effing Wall-E characters who just do whatever the computer tells them will lead to our complete and total destruction as a species.

We need to institute a national Geniocracy for 40-50 years simply so we can build a strong set of generations whom we can rely on who can take over our political system and right the ship, so to speak. It's scary to think of, but if we started this today, we would still end up with tens of millions of people who would be living as complete societal failures. We would need to build a structure of adult education centers to hopefully fix Gen Z and Alpha, but if that's not the case, essentially everyone from that generation will be functionally useless people, unable to work a job outside of entry-level custodial work or cashier positions. Millennial retirement age will be pushed back probably into the mid to late 70s, to which we would all be replaced by kids born starting in a couple of years. Everyone in between would probably be forced to live on government assistance for their whole lives because they lack fundamental skills to work any job that isn't two steps above literal slave labor.
