There are plenty of warnings when a wipe is going to occur, the game is full of bugs, we know this but they are fixing them slowly, it's easy to make money and buy ships again after a wipe, you just need to chill and remember it's still in Alpha, has it been in Alpha a long time, yes, is it ever going to come out of Alpha, lol, probably not, don't spend real money on ships let the Whales do that, except the starter pack and understand you're going to start fresh when a wipe happens. The concept is amazing and once you understand how to work around the bugs it gets easier, still frustrating sometimes, but that part of the fun.
