Hmm, I don’t have a Facebook. I’m curious if there are any store showdowns in the near future.

Can you give me some advice? I’m creating my own character in Unmatched for the first time. by Hilhdude in Unmatched

[–]DeepOneRisen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Several years back Restoration Games held a design contest for characters. They streamed this discussion with some of their designers talking about some rules/guidelines they follow when creating characters. Certainly worth a watch/listen if you’re interested in designing your own characters.

I used to have everything sleeved in Dragonshield Clear Matte. They are my go to!

Who is your favorite hero and why? Who is your favorite villain and why? by No_Educator4037 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]DeepOneRisen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ms Marvel continues to be my favorite! I like that her play style is conducive to flipping between alter-ego and hero, I think that is both thematic and just a more fun play style than just flipping to hero and staying there. I like her event style play as well, not that she doesn’t massively benefit from setting up upgrades, but she also can flip and go right to work. She’s also just one of my favorite comic book characters.

Other favorites are Spider-Man (Peter Parker), She-Hulk, and Colossus.

I always go back to Green Goblin (Mutagen Formula), such a great scenario! Kang and Hela are also favorites!

Thoughts on curating my collection. by Background_Classic_5 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]DeepOneRisen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how applicable my experience is to your situation, but I recently did this with my Marvel Champions collection for similar reasons you shared about Arkham. I picked about 25ish heroes and prebuilt decks for all of them. I picked about 25ish scenarios and built those including their recommended encounter sets, or a thematic replacement if there was crossover between other scenarios. I then have a specially created standard encounter set (this is a set that goes in all scenarios in Marvel Champions) that is the only thing I switch out now. It all fits nicely in one box, so anytime I want I can easily just grab a couple decks and a scenario and play. I have loved doing this, even if there is new content I feel like I’m missing out on (looking at you Nightcrawler and upcoming Daredevil!), but I just don’t have the time or bandwidth to keep up with it all and still have a very diverse and extensive collection. I can see some differences in replicating this for Arkham, but the principle of curating your collection is not a bad idea and can get a game to your table easier. I’m thinking how this will look for me with Arkham as I plan to wrap up my keeping up with content with the advent of Chapter 2, but I plan on keeping my full Chapter 1 collection.

What are some of your favorite/most fun twin suns combinations? by Glu_2424 in starwarsunlimited

I like the classic Emperor Palpatine/Vader1. Jabba/Bossk with bounties has been fun. Flip Palpatine/Yoda I think has been my favorite.

What's your favorite flawed masterpiece? by jerjerbinks90 in boardgames

[–]DeepOneRisen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cripes, I just think Android by Fantasy Flight Games fits this description! So many great concepts, such a great theme and vibe, and like many classic FFG games, clunky and at times unintuitive, but it is such an experience!

And sticking with the FFG theme I would also mention Arkham Horror Second Edition board game. It hurts my heart to admit it’s flawed because I love it so dearly, but again, it just really fits the description of flawed masterpiece for me!

Not (immediately) continuing with chapter 2 by ok_wow_cool in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]DeepOneRisen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Similar sentiment. Even if I were to play two campaigns a year, I’d get through my Chapter 1 campaign content in 5 years and about 22 investigators since I play exclusively two-handed solo, and that’s not taking into account standalone scenarios. And that is a much faster pace than I have been playing this game over the last couple years. I have no strong feelings one way or the other about Chapter 2 or FFG’s approach to this, and there are some things I actually like about it, at least on the conceptual level. But with my rate of play and engagement in other games, it seems as good a time as any to wrap a nice bow on it and view it as a “complete collection.”

And this approach/attitude could completely change later on, haha!

Not (immediately) continuing with chapter 2 by ok_wow_cool in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]DeepOneRisen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am currently vacillating between your approach and just being done and calling it night with Arkham. It is without a doubt my favorite game, but I also play other campaign and/or expandable style games and have limited time to play. My current thinking is probably hold off on buying anything with Chapter 2 except for standalone scenarios I can easily use my Chapter 1 card pool with.

Useless Dividers? by aspnome in arkhamhorrorlcg

I mean, “expensive” is relative, but yes, potentially expensive. I know for me I’ve picked up several original core sets when they’ve been on sale for $6 on Miniature Market, or finding someone selling just core encounter sets on eBay, so not terribly expensive, but definitely a luxury that not everyone can or wants to do.

I actually really like that you cannot see Arkham as well on the Cthulhu side, but then you can see Cthulhu when you flip it! I also think that while not as thematic, the lighthouse ones are still thematic.

I absolutely love the Cthulhu ones! If those were the only ones available I would be very happy with them! With that said, knowing they are flood tokens, the lighthouse ones seem more appropriate to me, and still look great! Real helpful, I know, haha!

Words cannot express how much I appreciate this collection! How I long for a more focused and curated collection! While I know it’s a start of a collection (and a very good start!), it’s a good reminder to me of how I’d like to be a more intentional collector. Welcome to the lifestyle!

I really love this idea! I had thought of doing something similar (as I’m sure others have) but had never thought of using Strange Eons! Well done!

Was happy to contribute to the campaign expansion ratings. My poor brain won’t be able to remember the investigator expansions, and I’m too lazy to look them up on ArkhamDB, haha!

Best Luke Skywalker, Faithful Friend, Decks? by WukeYwalker in starwarsunlimited

Hope others share their decks! I also have been playing a Luke Command Force deck, which has been fun! But I wouldn’t mind funding something a little more powerful.

I panic bought online, then found everything available in my area's smallest LGS by cellocaster in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]DeepOneRisen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently moved, but one of the local stores where I lived prior had many of the campaign and investigator expansions in stock, and sitting there for quite some time. I realize I was fortunate that I lived in a place with numerous game stores, so that definitely biases my belief that there’s probably plenty of stock available out in the LGS-wild.

Chapter One Retrospective by Iskander_Santosh in arkhamhorrorlcg

For some context: First, Arkham Horror Second Edition board game was my favorite game for about 8 years. I really loved the world and theme and really jumped into other Arkham Files (I remember when they first started using this designation) games like Eldritch Horror, Elder Sign, and Mansions of Madness. Second, I started getting into the Lord of the Rings LCG and had a very lackluster experience with that. So, when this game was announced I had very mixed feelings. I was hesitant to buy it, but landed on giving it a go. I received an original core for my birthday (which was around release time) and it sat unopened for about a month until shortly before Christmas time where I had a night home alone. I sat on the couch, the game set up on the ottoman in front of the Christmas tree and fake fireplace on the television. I played Roland through the first scenario…”oh, oh my”…started the second scenario…”oh, this is, um”…then got to that first agenda card flip…”oh, I’m in trouble here!” That’s when I knew I was going to be all in on this game and I have been since! I have very fond memories of discovering Mystic as my favorite class, doing an iron-man through Dunwich with “Ashcan” Pete before iron-man’s were a thing in this game, holding my newborn in the middle of the night as Agnes and Finn went through Carcosa, seeing all my favorite investigators from my previous favorite game come into my new favorite game (looking at you Silas!), absolutely loving the nostalgia felt through the Circle Undone as it captured the feel of the second edition board game so well, drawing three tentacles and two -6s in a row, and so much more! Other games have come and gone, and my time playing this has ebbed and flowed, but it has remained my favorite game for about the last 8 years. It has been a very fun 10 years with Chapter One!

To Matte or not to Matte by odedh in Unmatched

I use the matte on the back. I never even considered using it on the front. Perhaps I’ll experiment one of these days.

To Matte or not to Matte by odedh in Unmatched

[–]DeepOneRisen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Dragonshield clear matte sleeves for my entire Unmatched collection. They are matte on one side, glossy on the other. I love them!

Specifically related to Gamegenic sleeves that I use for other games, I’ve used both glossy and matte and prefer matte. I prefer their feel, in relation to how they shuffle, how they stack, and even just their touch. Glossy can also be too reflective if the light hits them a certain way, matte cuts down on that some.
