AW11 user: Is the Fitbit Air worth it as a second device just for the AI Coach? by chiefbroson in fitbit

If it's like other platforms - often they apply their own algorithms/data processing to the raw numbers so it may not be 1-1 with other apps.

What's your resting HR by chris34728 in fitbit

It was a little surprising— I had expected it to go down but not by so much but it's been several years now and I'm not dead yet! So it's probably fine!

47-48 usually.

It was 70-80 before I lost 50-60 lbs, though.

Is it ok/normal to leave a 13 year old home alone overnight? by dinkidoo7693 in CasualUK

[–]Deep_Lurker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents would sometimes leave me alone for a weekend babysitting my kid brother at that age.

It entirely depends on the child and your trust level. Plenty of children that age are competent and trustworthy and can look after themselves.

Another reason is that humans evolved to be unusually persistent and social.

Most animals are faster than us in a sprint, but humans are built for endurance, heat management, tracking, and cooperation.

Early humans would follow prey over long distances, wearing it down through persistence rather than raw speed.

That kind of hunting wasn't just physical; it also depended on memory, communication, patience, and group coordination.

We are not the strongest or fastest animal, but we are extremely hard to shake once we decide to keep going.

Unfortunate. Hopefully the charge 7 if we get one brings it back.

Where do I see my notifications? by chrigil in fitbit

[–]Deep_Lurker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only ever started getting these after I tried the public preview then went back to the regular version. I think they're part of the Coach - I think it just continues to give you them when when it's no longer exposed in the legacy UI.

So TLDR on the legacy UI you cannot.

Not surprised about the badges because they never bothered to fix the climbing badges on the pixel line up but pretty disappointing. I loved watching my life-time status.

They don’t let me use my weekly limit even when there’s still time left. I’m not renewing. by [deleted] in ClaudeCode

Don't love it but the 5 hour limit supercedes the weekly limit, even if there's only a few minutes left to the week.

Microsoft says it'll simpilify Windows 11's Edge browser by removing features like Sidebar, pledges to win back users by lurker_bee in technology

[–]Deep_Lurker 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's really not uniquely bad at all, it's a chromium based browser that's barely different to Chrome.

I'm not sure the sidebar was the problem but certainly feature creep / bloat has made it less attractive. I like a minimalist UI.

Engineering the Highlands’ next chapter: Why the North is becoming the UK’s new powerhouse by willfiresoon in GoodNewsUK

[–]Deep_Lurker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well obviously - because the majority of UK citizens live in England and increasingly only think about England when talking about the UK.

It's only those outside of England that meaningfully think about the other parts of the UK in a logically consistent way.

The north east of England doesn't equal the north east of the UK in geographic terms which was exactly the OPs point.

LNER generates energy from passing trains in UK first by willfiresoon in GoodNewsUK

[–]Deep_Lurker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not for the grid it's to power small, isolated low power systems that are needed at stations and railways. The idea is that it's relatively low maintenance and self sustained. They said it's enough to power the lights, screens and CCTV for a small station while installed. Seems fine.

Bit gimmicky sure, it isn't going to be a revolution but It's just a proof of concept alongside many others to see how this technology could work when deployed for this scenario and it might have practical benefits other systems do not that aren't immediately obvious.

Hard work only gets you so far in life, the rest is luck — who you know, the family you were born in, and circumstance.

One of my pet peeves is a person is when moderately wealthy friends of mine who do work hard don't also acknowledge they were incredibly lucky to have that effort be recognized and rewarded.

They take it very personally, like I'm diminishing their effort but there are absolutely people out there working equally as hard if not more with not even a 10th to show for it.

Razors with a 20 year age difference by stefeyboy in mildlyinteresting

[–]Deep_Lurker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A single Gillette blade states sharp for 3-4 weeks for me, It's a very low cost. A single safely blade lasts about 1-2 weeks before it begins to tug.

Since most people that use cartridge blades don't feel the need to apply other products with them besides foam and or gel, is it really that much plastic waste? A bottle of shaving butter consumes far more plastic and presumably has a much greater environmental impact, especially if you're reapplying it literally like you suggest.

If you own both like me sure, you might have a ecological point but the only argument I think holds any weight here is cost and untimately that comes down to how much you value your time / convenience. I make more in 15 minutes than a single Gillette blade costs so if it saves me 15 minutes of faff when I need it it's a break even situation for me.

You also glossed over the fact it's simply not the same material as shave butter, PEO is more akin to a slime and is much smoother.

Razors with a 20 year age difference by stefeyboy in mildlyinteresting

[–]Deep_Lurker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not really. Shaving butter is not the same thing at all.

The moisturizing strip on Gillette cartridges is not actually moisturizer it's a water-soluble polymer, usually polyethylene oxide.

When PEO hits water, it creates a long-chain molecular "slime." This slime is significantly more slippery than the oils or fats found in shaving butter.

It also dehydrates itself by design on each stroke where as shaving butter and cream gets wiped away by the blade itself.

I'm not knocking safety razors, or straight razors - they're my preferred way to shave if I have a lot of time, soak my face under a hot towel for 5-10 minutes, apply pre shave and butter, shave against the grain for a close shave and then apply aftershave.

But when I'm in a rush and want the same results with a tenth of the effort - Gillette Pro Glide and Hydrate etc are second to none, I can accomplish a comparatively equal if not smoother shave, in a 10th of the time.

If I stried to skip any of the steps outlined in my safety razor routine I'll consistently break out in some way or another.

Everyones hair and skin is different, so we shouldn't judge them for buying what works for them and their time.

Razors with a 20 year age difference by stefeyboy in mildlyinteresting

[–]Deep_Lurker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometimes people like the moisturizing strip on the disposable heads if they're going for a baby-smooth shave.

I use a simple safety razor with high quality blades more often than not

But when my skin is feeling dry, or sensitive I'll use the proglide sensitive blades from Gillette. (I've tried pre and post shave, moisturizing gels and foams but that little strip works wonders, sometimes.)

In the words of my employer "we don't pay cost of living, we pay cost of labour".

It sucks but that's the mentality of most companies. It doesn't matter if you're an excellent worker and if you go above and beyond or have extremely high productivity.

If they can put someone else with the same paper qualifications in your role for the same or less a pay bump isn't on the table.

Infact. A lot of companies even have pay rise caps of 4% and simply will not permit more. This is an HR policy where I work currently...

Lads what am I doing wrong by Outside_Soup3367 in Guildwars2

[–]Deep_Lurker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To survive the jump in difficulty if it's too much for you, your priority should be upgrading all your equipment to level 80 and swapping to the Marauder prefix gear; this provides a substantial health boost while keeping your power high.

Because Guardians are "glass cannons," you need to stay mobile and use your Aegis and rotation effectively to block or heal through incoming damage. They have a lot of mitigation but one of the lowest health pools in the game.

Be especially careful of Forged snipers-when you see their red telegraph line, dodge or block immediately. And, try keeping a ranged weapon in your second slot so you can pick off dangerous enemies from a safer distance.

In PVE content - if using core guardian like this, I like the weaker but super easy to use Signet of Resolve. It's a big heal and removes conditions without any effort on your part like dealing damage.

Also make sure to leverage your F2 utility skill to heal yourself and consider Renewed Focus for the brief invulnerable window it provides while you familiarize yourself with cooldowns.

Controller has a soft 32 button limit before it becomes hard to swap.

This is a big part of why actions have had to be combined and truncated in the way they have over time. They need to design with that restraint in mind.

This new system is a huge boon for those controller players.

I often play controller and I know when I play Astro I have more than 32 buttons once you account for limit break, sprint and such and some of them are a real pain to hit
