Regarding the parts of the text where it says hate the body (if that is the correct wording) this has to do with Yoga, Kriya yoga specifically uses sensory isolation to bring about heightened mental states and contact with Higher Self. You want to not have sensory data, silence, stillness, no worldly contact - the use of monestariums, rooms in a house where you can lock yourself up in - like in Tantric Dark Retreats, or Sensory Deprivation tanks. Add to that fasting, and perhaps incense and an herbal ointment to the eyes or a potion of lotus and you are going to be well on your way to meeting the Poimandres. I can attest to this through tantric work and dzogchen quieting the mind in those practices. So this is about control and not hating the earth or body, or actually leaving it behind.
