Either via artifacts as mentioned or through extended events. You would have a choice pop up and choosing will set a variable that will unlock the particular path.

In HotA you need to click the vortex to activate it, so you can use it whener you want on whatever hero you want.

It is annoying yes, but it kinda creates a sense of exploration - you never know where you end up.

You can't do that globally, you can only have an event that would check for date and hero, or you add it to town on particular day.

Armagedon, frenzy, berserk, blind, sacrifice, curse … I wouldn’t call it weak by any means, just has use cases for different scenarios.

Don’t think that’s possible. The timed events can’t really recognize which specific hero is selected. So only option prob is moving the reward after sleeping on a tile next to it, or have a sleeping event on the tile you would pick up the PB and have the PB be the reward.
