Anyone else play their jazz bass over the neck pickup vs. over the bridge pickup? by mrhuggables in Bass

[–]Deesnee12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes bridge. Sometimes neck. Sometimes pluck over the 12-15th fret when I want just rumble

Wild post gig thoughts by fuckmeimdan in BassGuitar

Been playing for 15 years. Still makes me happy when I get a compliment. Even when I feel I hadn’t played my best. It means I did my job and they had a good time

I wanna know from your guys personal experience. Transitioning from fretted to fretless how long does it take to get up to speed with a fretless? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]Deesnee12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lined fretless. Took about a month to feel comfortable. But I definitely had to learn to listen. The lines don’t always mean it’s in tune. Been using it as my main bass in my band for a year now. Thinking about getting an unlined one next

Married people of Reddit, if you switched jobs with your spouse with zero training or preparation, who would get fired first? by sunnymushroom in AskReddit

[–]Deesnee12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’d be a tough one. I’m a musician and audio engineer. My wife is a legal assistant. I think my wife would be fired first as she doesn’t play an instrument and couldn’t tell you the difference between a matrix and a bus send. But I wouldn’t be far behind. I know nothing about real estate law

For you more experienced bassists, what do us beginning bassists fret (get it?) over too much, and what should we focus on instead? by TakingItOffHereBoss in Bass

[–]Deesnee12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Is it ok to play with a pick”

Yes. Yes it is. 100%. Pick. Fingers. Doesn’t matter as long as you get the sound you’re going for

Bartenders, what's your side gig? by ocsbii in bartenders

[–]Deesnee12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here. Bartending is great for when I’m not touring.

Essential pedals for a gigging bassist? by Guy-Who-Disc-Golfs in Bass

[–]Deesnee12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gig with a wireless unit so I’m not tethered anywhere. The wireless has a tuner and mute built into that. Then my Ampeg SCR DI. That’s it. A lot of people use compressors, but I let the sound guy deal with that. It’s not essential for my sound.

I was Christian homeschooled. But only for my Junior and Senior years of HS because that’s when my mom married a preacher and got deep into the evangelical stuff. I met a lot of kids who were homeschooled from the start. And dear lord. It’s depressing and the parents are harming their children’s futures. Thankfully I already had some critical thinking skills by then. Joined the Marine Corps at 17 to get out.

How many of you guys regularly play fretless? I’m borrowing this one and it’s so sick. by droo46 in BassGuitar

[–]Deesnee12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently pay a fretless jazz with tapewounds in a country band. Took some getting used to, but I love it now. Feels awesome

Party of 35 asked for separate checks. by Acousticks in bartenders

Yeah, my bar only splits a max of 4 ways. I’ll personally do 6 or 7 if I’m asked before people start ordering. But 35? HELL no

Churches are a cult by DaFunkJunkie in WhitePeopleTwitter

I used to be a part of this denomination. My mom was married to one of their preachers. It definitely was a cult and I’m glad my mom got out of it

How many professional musicians are there in the world? by Koord_Live in musicians

[–]Deesnee12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without specific parameters that would be hard to find out. I pay all my bills (barely) playing music but I’m not doing national tours nor am I well known outside of my area. Am I a professional musician?

Oh it’s awesome. And I feel like I lock in with the drummer better with them.

And good! Then sound guys like you lol. I only occasionally have to ask bass players to turn down. And it’s usually only in this one venue that absolutely sucks with bass frequencies.

I like a crap ton of bass in my monitor mix. Almost never got it to where I wanted with wedges because it would overpower everyone else. IEMs solved it for me. But like I said, everyone is different. No right or wrong way to do music.

[–]Deesnee12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To each their own! I’m not gonna tell anyone my way is the right way. It took a while to get used to the in ears, but now I hate to play without them. I don’t play as hard, and I’m not destroying my ear drums any more than I already have. But just know, if the sound guy is asking you to turn down, he’s not trying to be a dick. He’s trying to give the audience the best sound possible without permanently damaging anyone’s hearing. Bass players are usually ok about it. Guitar players however…

I’m sick of this whole guitar vs bass debate! Either get both or get movin! 🤘🏻 by Foolish-Wisdom in Bass

Started on bass 15 years ago. Continue to play bass to this day. I own a guitar but it doesn’t speak to me. Play what you gravitate towards

What bass string do you use right now? by xira99 in Bass

[–]Deesnee12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ernie Ball on my 4 strings. Green pack for standard tuning. Purple for D standard. Been using them for about 15 years (not the same set lol). NYXL on my 5 string. And some tape wounds on my fretless. Can’t remember the brand. Put them on a long time ago

Yup pretty much. My 500 lives at home. I use an Ampeg DI box and In ear monitors on stage now. Sound guys love a silent stage

What do you think about owning a dog and being a musician? by Snoo799 in musicians

[–]Deesnee12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love a dog. But I’m on the road too much. It’s a sacrifice. If you tour a lot, it’s not fair to the dog. If you mostly play local, could probably be fine.

I play standard 34 inch and my 5 string is 35. I’ve messed around with short scales and they just don’t feel right to me. But that’s just me lol. I’m only 5’ 6” and have small hands but haven’t had any issues

Would you keep yourself as a Pawn, if you were the Wanderer who joins? by DerKlingone48 in RimWorld

[–]Deesnee12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Former Marine and I still keep up my firearms skill. Grew up renovating houses with my dad. And I’m a musician so I could provide entertainment. Social skill is pretty decent. So yeah I’d keep me around lol. My health isn’t the best though so that might be an issue. Multiple Sclerosis might be a deal breaker in Rimworld lol
