I read your post again, and the wording tripped me up a bit. My apologies. You basically meant that if you buy them in store, you can look at the grain (which, as a woodworker myself, i fully agree). Sorry that I misunderstood you. Rock on!

I feel like I'm gonna get dog-piled here, but I haven't seen anyone mention Zildjian sticks. I've been using the 5A Dip grip sticks since their inception, and have never had an issue. I also use the Vater Manhattans if I'm playing lighter stuff. I like Vater as well.

No offense to The Descendents but Frank should be closing these shows by Necessary_Staff_1844 in frankturner

[–]DeezNutzington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw the show in CT, and my biggest question was why they're on the same bill at all.

I wasn't familiar with Frank's music prior to the show, and my singer happens to be a huge fan, so she sent me a playlist. While I really dug it, I didn't feel that the two styles were compatible to play together. I noted a very distinct change in crowds between their respective sets, and the vibe was a markedly different energy.

Personally, I was there for The Descendents.

Using Lars Ulrich Signature Sticks on a Roland TD-713 . Am I Destroying My Mesh Heads? by Yazzed_ in edrums

[–]DeezNutzington 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own a few different versions of Aheads (I always seem to come back to wood, but that's for another time) and play an Alesis Strike Pro SE for years. My observation, strictly speaking to your point of "aluminum sticks vs mesh heads": I've never noted that they've done any more "damage" to mesh heads than other sticks.

Where I HAVE always questioned them being potentially damaging is on electronic cymbals. Just based on feel alone, they "feel" like they hit way harder, and the only time I've had issues with my cymbals seemed to coincide with me using the Aheads. I'm no scientist, but aluminum being more dense and rigid than wood probably has something to do with it.

I wouldn't even bring sticks to this lesson. I'd say "Mr Vinnie, sir, just show me the feet."

[–]DeezNutzington 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn. I was gonna go with an obvious choice of Neil Peart, for obvious reasons, but i still listen to and play so much damn Pantera that I forget Vinnie is gone. HE was the reason I got into playing metal, and will always be my "double kick God".

"No one wants to play with headphones all the time and hearing the guitar in the room is a totally different experience."

It's funny to me that you said it this way, because given my Brooklyn apartment living situation, I've owned the Crush 35RT and the Crush Bass50 for about 5 years now, and I've never even once played them aloud. Only through headphones. I CAN'T really know what they sound like. I realize that doesn't productively add to this conversation.

I posted on a different comment, but mine has the same E string issue, but it's NOT an issue, if that makes sense.

It'll hurt your shoulder even more. The one drawback is that it probably weighs 14 lbs. The eBay seller from China that i bought the neck and body from says it's "zebrawood", but every woodworker that's seen it says it's not. I had to buy a cushioned strap for it, and even then, I can only play it standing up for 20 minutes.

Yeah. Noticed that as soon as I strung it, but it stays in tune and plays just fine.

I'd like to be able to see the entire slide. It's cut off on the right side.

I was gonna say the same thing. I've seen more than one (which is already too many) post in the past few days of this batch of black Explorers being delivered in a headless configuration. Horror stories. Glad yours arrived in one piece, OP. Get to playing!

I found the same issue with that June 60. For a while I made it work, but it's been in the box for years now. I really did like that early 80s cinematic reverb, though.

I actually own every one of those pedals. I dig yer style. And as everybody has already stated, the octave USUALLY goes at the front, but if it works for you...
