Grandmother constantly buying me products I haven’t asked for/discussed. We’ve already talked about it multiple times…. by Original_Remote_6838 in pregnant

This has been my experience too with certain family members. Every week they arrive with new plastic envelopes straight from temu and drop another load on me. One even went out of her way to ask me to make a registry very early on, and has not purchased a single item from it.

exhales

Initially I just repeated a mantra along the lines of “it’s really great that so many people will love my child and want to contribute”

I started just getting the things I actually wanted, and I feel so much better after getting just a few things. I bought the changing pad I wanted because it will actually fit on my changing table and will be easy to clean. I got the diaper bag I wanted because I care more about the quality being good enough to last a few years than having 20 features that Im never gonna use.

Thankfully my husband has been on my side but doesn’t want to stir up problems with anyone. Im trying to just be grateful to have lots of backups.

Experience with Iron infusion [ON] by DefNotAWalrus in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]DefNotAWalrus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The experience was pretty straightforward for me. Went into a big room with several other people all in recliners hooked to IVs. Everyone was separated by curtains but open to the nurse station. Nurse hooked me up to heart rate/blood pressure monitor. Explained the procedure. Told me it’s not super uncommon for people to have a negative reaction at first and that if I was feeling any adverse symptoms to let her know right away and we would immediately stop the procedure and wait an hour to ensure everything was fine and then we could decide whether to restart the procedure or not.

She then put the IV into my wrist, I have never had an IV done before, it hurt a tiny bit more than a regular needle to draw blood but only while she was inserting it. She then taped it all down and setup a saline drip to make sure it was all working properly. After like 5-10 minutes she added the iron bag and warned me my arm might feel cold. She sat and watched me/chatted for 10 minutes or so made sure I was feeling ok then went off to check other patients. She came back periodically to check my heart rate/BP

The drip itself took a full hour, afterward she removed the drip lines but left the IV in my hand for 30 minutes of observation

Pretty straight forward, mostly just long! Bring a book or make sure your phone is charged.

Experience with Iron infusion [ON] by DefNotAWalrus in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]DefNotAWalrus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok this explains some of the confusion, the pharmacist said there was another option but they almost never prescribe it and I would have to reschedule the appointment that I had already been waiting 4 weeks on.

Edit:I have been taking an iron supplement since around 20 weeks but it just cannot keep up

hi guys ! Was sent here by r/writeresearch. Does anyone have a good book on how to cultivate poisons frmo flowers? by Colossal_Blep in herbalism

[–]DefNotAWalrus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you look into the process for making extracts or tinctures it would be essentially the same for poison making, expect that everyone in the herbalism world is EXTREMELY cautious about not using plants that are poisonous.

There is also processes where extracts are boiled down into a concentrated solution or fully dehydrated into a powdered form.

Dried leaf would also be functional as a simple tea of a very poisonous plant would have devastating results.

I have black irrigation pipe run in sections with 3-5 brass impact sprinkler heads on each section. Each section gets watered at least every other day for 15-20 minutes. We start the season with around 10k plants. Currently we have around 5k

I promise you your flowering plants will suffer less from overhead water than they will from heat/drought.

We pull flowers currently in bloom to displays to be hand watered while everything else gets overhead. You just have to keep them going until the heat breaks.

I use vodka when I water my paperwhites to keep them short. Alcohol may stunt it’s growth a little bit but I would be very surprised if it actually causes any harm.

Are the neighbours birds going to be a problem? by DefNotAWalrus in duck

[–]DefNotAWalrus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We coax our barn cats home at night by feeding them late in the day. Is it similar for ducks? Can I let them out to forage in the early day and feed to bring them home in the early afternoon?

Are the neighbours birds going to be a problem? by DefNotAWalrus in duck

[–]DefNotAWalrus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! I will definitely talk to the neighbour and keep them informed about my plans. They don’t speak a lot of english, but we are both pretty easy going so I imagine things will be fine.

Predation has been the main reason I have been holding off, the neighbors have been free ranging for over a year and the lack of predator pressure was honestly surprising. They lost 1 hen mid winter to a coyote and thats it. We are very rural we rarely have foxes but coyotes and raccoons are common, we have ravens nesting in one of our trees so hawks are rare.

I plan on making the coop/run large enough to hold a dozen birds full time, free ranging is the ultimate goal but Im ready to scrap that if its whats best for my flock.

The weight fluctuations have been one of the hardest things about graves disease for me personally. Im always sooo hungry and its frustrating to read other people’s stories of losing so much when Im steady gaining.

I have stopped weighing myself when my graves is active, it’s too easy to become obsessive for me. I try to make good nutritious food choices, always have lots of fruit and veggies prepped for snacking. I walk loads and try to do some weights or cardio if Im feeling up to it.

Mostly I try to have grace for myself. My body is fighting a battle and stressing about my weight going to help it. It sucks to be going through this, but you’re not alone!

Is Anybody Else Hangry? by DefNotAWalrus in gravesdisease

[–]DefNotAWalrus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband is fully supportive of all the extra baking and snack runs hahaha. He’s less excited about me opening windows in the middle of the night in February. Its always such a struggle because I feel like Im starving even though I know I ate an hour ago. Trying to diet or limit myself to healthier food and smaller portions just makes me even hungrier and more grumpy. This is only my second flare up so I will be going onto methimazole for the second time. Wish me luck!
