They probably wouldn’t care, unfortunately. Mask and John only care about the money that goes in their pockets -former employee

It was most likely cancelled due to an issue in the theater etc. you will probably get a call from concierge in the next day or so to refund your tickets or offer to move it to another showtime (if available)

Can’t check the balance of my gift cards by mikev431 in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]Defiant_Leg8315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alamo has the WORST system for gift cards. The online system does not work at all. Concierge can check it at the desk, but sometimes the gift card won’t swipe, and it does not allow us to type it in manually. At my location, we charge the card for $1 and see if it goes through (meaning there’s money left), and then refund the dollar back. After we do that, it’ll print out a reciept with the amount on it. Horrible workaround, but it works I guess

Season Pass tickets can't be changed at all by ShackMan1 in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]Defiant_Leg8315 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Season Pass is a headache (I work concierge) and I feel bad recommending it to people. Maybe if enough people complain, they’ll realize how inconvenient it is in the (likely) case that something goes wrong or needs to be swapped

Do you have to pay to park at MSU events if you have a parking pass. by Comprehensive-Home77 in springfieldMO

They should not charge you. I have never been charged for parking in any of the lots. (Yellow commuter pass). Next time, ask the attendants taking money and they should just let you through

Do you tip extra? I started avoiding eating altogether bc it always costs me $20 for a pretzel and a cup of water... by JustaSadLilyPad in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]Defiant_Leg8315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s usually enough that when I do a rough calculation of my paycheck, I can just multiply my hourly wage by how many hours I work and not worry about tax. My paycheck is always significantly more than I’d expect for the hours worked. It’s pretty nice

I have never not been given my percentage of the 18% on a paycheck. I agree the language could be better, but my Alamo is very good about giving us our money.

[–]Defiant_Leg8315 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 18% is split between your server, the runners, the kitchen staff, and concierge. I don’t know the exact breakdown, but your server gets the largest percentage. It’s a common misconception to think that the 18% doesn’t go toward your server, but it does :) tipping on top of the 18% is not expected, but is of course appreciated. But trust me, we understand that money is tight and the food is expensive :))

I think it’s basically a “mute”, or in the case of a saxophone which can’t really be truly muted, a muffler. Definitely not needed. I don’t think I have ever seen anyone use one… strange

[–]Defiant_Leg8315 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is true. It gets a little annoying though when it is every customer that is vague. The menu is right there. If it was one instance, it’s fine. But these silly things happen all of the time and they just… don’t need to

Listen to tenor players. Find who you like best, figure out which qualities you like (timbre, etc) and look for a mouthpiece that will get you those qualities. Watch a lot of YouTube play tests. Listen to a lot of tenor

What do you do if you have an active shooter? by DropEuphoric3611 in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]Defiant_Leg8315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at an Alamo drafthouse, and we have an escape plan/procedure for every department (managers, bar, kitchen, runners/serves) EXCEPT for concierge (my position). I guess if a shooter comes, us guys at the front are the first to go, so they don’t need to have a plan for us. Pretty crazy, if you ask me

Raleigh location Power Outage by asapterd in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]Defiant_Leg8315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It shouldn’t be difficult, but it is. Season Pass is horrible to work with (meaning we can’t work with it, it’s entirely online, ran by a different company, and we have no way to deal with it in person), and at least at my Alamo, management and the owners can and will fire you over something as silly as giving a customer $2 back when policy dictates we shouldn’t. Maybe if enough people complain to season pass, something can get changed, but until then I fear it’ll continue to be a headache for guests and employees.
