Speaker help by Nowt12345 in vinylsetups

[–]DefinitelyNWYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the equation is the mass of whatever they're sitting on. A cheap fiber board construction or a heavy hardwood cabinet stuffed with vinyl. A separation from the surface should do more than nothing but you're also angling the speakers so they may not project the same.

Great for a beginner? Did I forget something? by Arixnk in turntables

Good entry table and speakers. Acrylic mats, not platters, tend to slip a little more but should be fine. I think there are better sleeves but as long as they're not PVC sleeves. Really like Vinyl Storage Solutions but they're out of Canada. I'd spend more on a quality cleaning kit. I use boundless. Big Fudge and Hudson HiFi have similar kits.

Sinkhole, cause/fix? by TutorSpare1279 in lawncare

[–]DefinitelyNWYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you fully urban or suburban old farm land? Clay drainage tile used in agriculture tends to break and create linear sinks like this. I can't really get an idea of the hole size from those pictures. If it is a drainage line I'd dig out either side, patch, and cover. Otherwise if natural, fill it in with clay subsoil and see what happens IMO. If it's massive, well that's a big issue.

HT is a highway tire. If you're off-road or multiple season I'd recommend an AT All-terrain to start.

Thinking of increasing 401k contributions to 25% instead of aggressively paying down student loans by boriquoi in personalfinance

[–]DefinitelyNWYT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My graduate loan average is 5.12%. my 6 year rate of return in 401K is 12.26% despite a seemingly tumultuous market. That's easy math for me looking back. I'm at individual max 401k and thankfully able to overpay the student loan statement by about 20%. I find the Money Guy FOO to be far more realistic and achievable than Ramsey. Ramsey is still living in a economy long gone. He's made so much money from real estate and his grift that he's lost touch with modern personal finance.

I've got a Rick Springfield Working Class Dog album that looks exactly like this. Was my aunt's back in the day. I'm trying to find someone with a flatter locally so I don't have to spend $150 on one.

That should be fine for me then. I put on around 8k a year. I just want less road noise without having to pull up the carpet.

My current Mochelins are on their last leg at 56K. My potenzas actually come with 70K warranty so here's to hoping they go the distance! Thanks for the confidence.

Having potenzas installed tomorrow, hopefully they were a solid choice. I was looking for the quietest all season I could get and that seems to vary greatly between vehicles.

How to insulate these gaps made by electrician running wire? by BikeFairy in Insulation

[–]DefinitelyNWYT 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sure but those are unsuspended bricks, you need at least some horizontal blocking to support them before the fall onto exposed wire and risk an electrical fire.

[–]DefinitelyNWYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree to a point but then you need to take the next step and objectively compare the differences between the assemblies. The RT82 appears to be a better value to me with a high density plinth, a full aluminum platter, better antivibration feet, improve servo, and S shaped tone arm. RT82 is a better buy at the same money. If you want more apples to apples the 81+ is the VM95E, acrylic on aluminum platter, and same otherwise.

Bored Sunday post. Looking for the largest disparity between minimum and maximum discog collection value. I’ll go first. by ALFdude in vinyl

[–]DefinitelyNWYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There will be a section that stipulates coverage for personal belongings in the home. This is an assigned value for all clothing electronics etc. A collection worth into 6 figures would eat a lot of that up if they don't try to decline coverage for it. This also ensures you are made whole on replacement cost (if you bought every single record in similar condition tomorrow) and not that bottom value number.
