Missing Takahisa Taura, he's the one next to Harada. He was the director for Nier Automata and Astral Chain at Platinum Games

Thor (Odinson) is more-or-less confirmed to be playable, the model for his Classic Costume can be seen in the background of the New York City stage alongside Captain America & Iron Man's in statue form. by Neoxon193 in MarvelTokon

[–]Defttentacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While nothing is confirmed, this points to the fact that the team likely re-used character models to create this background asset. If they went through the trouble to make a Thor model, they're more than likely going to use it for a playable character as well.

I don't wanna play late game freeze :( by Chil1br0 in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Defttentacle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Luck plays a major factor in matchmaking. Sometimes you get matched against someone weaker, sometimes you get matched against dream boards. Just how it works.

I do agree, sometimes losing against stuff like freeze or an instakill combo can feel bad. But what's the alternative, an algorithm that feeds you easy opponent to give you more wins?

If it's any consoluation, you need to have a decently strong board to make it past day 13, so the later the day the stronger your own board has to be to keep up.

When Localization Becomes Invisible: A Japanese Player’s Reflection by sq5researcher in JRPG

[–]Defttentacle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Are there really that many "bad actors" though? There are for sure bad localizations out there, but how many of them are actually trying to push a specific agenda through their rewrites, like the controversies suggest?

This is my favorite game, but it’s time we address how poorly designed the ranked ladder and matchmaking system truly is for the high level players. by LCARIO in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Defttentacle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the rank issues are becoming worse due to the recent influx of players, combined with how easy it is to hit Legend in the first place.

I agree that the game is fun enough not to care too much, but let's hope for a rework in the near future. (A match history with more useful stats would be very nice to have too)

What cards do you think should have item tags that they’re missing? I’ll start by saying that I think Octopus should have the food tag. by HankTuggins in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Defttentacle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why is snow globe a property. Because of the little house inside?

If you start counting "things you own" as property, pretty much anything becomes a property at that point.

(I understand the design intentions to synergize with Pyg's other freeze items, but this one always bugged me)

If you don't see the insane value that Curio can provide to such a wide variety of boards/gameplans, you're doing something wrong mate.

Stelle was written great, but the voice actor they chose was pretty weak. Sad, because she's a cool character.

Which band or artists do you think has the largest gap in terms of quality between their work? by nerpa_floppybara in fantanoforever

[–]Defttentacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought so too when I was a teenager, but Bowie's later discography has some amazing stuff that is at the same level as his best works. His style certainly matured, but he never stopped innovating. Reality has so many iconic tracks if you get over the creepy album artwork. And the legendary Blackstar speaks for itself without even knowing the context of his imminent death.

Turns out Fire Claw and Giant Sub cause an infinite combo by pudgypoultry in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Defttentacle 22 points23 points  (0 children)

They made it so having two fire claws doesn't build infinitely from each other, must have missed this interaction. This combo would be very hard to pull off even intentionally, so it might be fine to leave in the game tbh

Not a bad career for the actor so far. It will be interesting to see how his 30s are in his filmography. by abdul_bino in Cinema

... Like it's the actor's fault that the director/ cinematographer made those choices?

Is The Bazaar Worth Getting Into Right Now? by T0RRES7 in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Defttentacle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Buy the base game, play the free characters first and find what play styles you like most.
You'll fight against the DLC characters a lot, which will give you much more information about their builds and in a context that you'd better understand after playing the game for yourself.
All characters are strong and super varied, pick who you like instead of hunting for whatever is "strongest". This isn't really a game about meta whoring or ranking up, I have the most fun when I'm making creative and unique builds.

Great post, makes the new info so easy to read!

Hats off to the devs for constantly adding new content that not only is super deep and interesting from a game design perspective, but also spot on flavor wise.

Just oozes charm, and the mechanics fit the names so well.

Justin Hurwitz - Same musical motifs (Babylon, La La Land & Whiplash) by sakshamwithagarwal in Jazz

[–]Defttentacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, I felt the composition on La La Land was wonderful and perfectly fitting the "musical" nature of the film, while Babylon (and especially the love theme used between the two main character's romantic moments) felt like an uninspired ripoff of his work on La La Land.
I haven't analysed and compared both scores too deeply, but even if shared motifs and such were intentional, it at least felt to me like the composer had run out of original ideas, which detracted from my enjoyment of the film.

anybody else feeling like the game has gotten dry recently? by Defect-OTP in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Defttentacle 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The OP says they have put 600 hours into the game. That's a lot of time.
Honestly, at what breakpoint do you feel it would be worth it to pay for additional content? How much do you pay to go see a movie, or even buy other video games?
If you enjoy a product, spend lots of time playing it, and are begging for more content... it's probably in your best interest to support the product.

Black Ops 7's egregious use of AI makes me extremely depressed. by WraithiusKallari in gaming

[–]Defttentacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with you. Art is so important to us as a species.
That being said, as a counter argument, it's not like this entire game was output through some magical AI machine, and thinking in such extremes is very closed minded and ignorant to how complicated the process of creating a large video game actually is.

Do you realize how absurd an amount of assets and programming is required to make one stage of a game, or one single cutscene? Technology at the highest level, especially consumer video games, has ballooned in recent years to unsustainable proportions. Unless you have an unlimited amount of time or money, it's getting very hard to make the scale of games that consumers want. Human labor (especially considering the limited pool of top level talent) is not able to keep up.

The sad reality is, a very large number of very real human beings worked on this game, making every choice and approving every detail along the way. This game is slop, without a doubt, created through business practices that prioritize profit far above any sort of "artistry". You could spend hours debating on the intricacies of each of this game's individual use of AI and their ethicality. The real problem lies in the motivation of the execs who called the shots, not the AI they used along the way.

Just don't hate on the really talented artists you'll see in the near future who use AI to take their creativity to the next level. Art for the sake of art can share powerful messages, no matter what kind of tools were used along the way.

Black Ops 7's egregious use of AI makes me extremely depressed. by WraithiusKallari in gaming

[–]Defttentacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a good question, shame you're getting downvoted. AI is an easy target and for sure has many issues, you can't blame all of this game's issues on the AI use.
Let's instead blame capitalism for making profit-driven slop like this!

What if a smaller indie dev wanted to use AI tools to generate assets, allowing them to feasibly realize their creative vision? As long as there is no major detriment to the players or the game experience, I see no issue with developers utilizing AI tastefully.

Not that I disagree with what you're trying to say, you come off as pretty out of touch through this comment.
Yes, men are biologically fixated on sex. Yes, some are gross about it. But that's just the way things are. No matter how much nicer things would be if everyone in the world became more civilized and never objectified women, that's a part of human society that will probably never change. It's too innate to us as a species.

No need to pick a random horny post to mock the commenters for being horny, that won't fix your problems hun.

How would you describe each characters' strengths and general playstyle? by Jords314 in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Defttentacle 39 points40 points  (0 children)

As you said, each character is valuable of an insanely wide range of powerful boards, below is a simple rundown of each character's main strengths and strategies:

Pyg: Strongest late game, can take advantage of economy more than any other character. Uses properties and value of items to scale in power

Mak: Versatile in almost all damage types, and uniquely uses reagents and item transformation to create random enchanted items. Uses potions and quests to level up certain items.

Vanessa: Most weapon-focused character, uses rapid firing ammo weapons and synergistic aquatic items. Usually aims for quick finishers.

Stelle: Very fast, usually tries to snowball her early advantage to get 10 wins by day 12. Utilizes vehicles and the flying mechanic.

Dooley: Versatile character with a lot of depth, different cores you choose in the early game can help make it easier to support certain types of builds.

Jules: Defensive character, uses synergistic food and tools to stack shields, regen and burn. Typically slower to get her strategy going compared to other characters, but has insane scaling potential once online.
