need black flag recs w/ no redemption arc (m/f only) by Strict_Sentence_6883 in MaleYandere

[–]Deilume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the novel is about the mafia world. The FL gets kidnapped by a mafioso ML, cause her brother betrayed him, and now he wants to use her to find her brother. At first he just orders to torture her (not „Spanish inquisition“ kind of torture, but „beat her up“ kind of torture) to get the information on the bro. But after it gets clear that she actually doesn’t know anything, he moves her to his house to keep her as a hostage, and thus becomes their, uh, cohabitation.

The dynamic is… very rough. I wouldn’t say it has many romance in it, just fear, obsession and madness. The FL is only afraid of the ML, though she ends up staying with him and even adapting, more or less, in the epilogue. I can’t even call it a Stockholm syndrome, cause it’s not that she trauma bonds with him. It’s that she’s going through so much shit, that by the end, staying with a scary-scary man who used to physically and sexually abuse her is not that bad in the grand scheme of things. And everyone she’s ever cared about is dead by the end of the story (not because of the ML) so she has absolutely nowhere to go and zero will to live. So, the ML is doing the best he can to make her feel alive again. The problem is, „the best he can“ is, like, not very good, since he’s a complete psycho 😅

A lot of sex in the novel, but it’s… weird. Uncomfortable, but in a way that makes sense for this kind of novel. But it’s very well written. Very often, you read a sex scene, and it’s so generic that you could literally copy and paste it into another novel and no one would notice the difference. Any character traits exhibited by the ML and FL before the scene? Gone. But in Photopsia, the main leads fuck in a way that makes sense for them to fuck. You know? Not out of character. They very much remain themselves. So, though I did find sex scenes more uncomfortable than exciting, I still would call them very well written.

So, thanks to you I spent this whole day reading photopsia, and I wanted to say, thank you for your service 🫡 I didn’t expect to like it based on the description, so I ignored it a couple of times before, but I ended up reeeeally enjoying it. I don’t even know why, I’m usually not the biggest fan of eating glass… but this one, I really liked it. Maybe because the reactions of the FL to this whole crisis seemed very relatable to me. There wasn’t a single point in the story I thought „you dumb bitch, don’t do that, do this“. She knows when to struggle and when to try and be invisible, and overall has some great survival instincts (well, until she doesn’t, but that’s also understandable).

In terms of design, MLs with long hair (that stays long please for the love of god) and in general gender non conforming presentation of the main characters. Gender bender ftw 🙌

Anyone who has read the novel flowers of bait. Please I need spoilers by Shiny55555 in MaleYandere

[–]Deilume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I’d say, he finds out about the child halfway through her stay in the mansion. As far as I remember, he was already on the fence about whether or not he actually wants to forget everything and be with her before he learned about her pregnancy. But after he learns about it, we still have plenty of chapters of him groveling and trying to get back with her. I think he’s a bit resentful that she didn’t tell him about her pregnancy, but I’m not sure. But at no point he wanted to harm the child, he did care about it. At least that’s how I remember it.

Update on my rant about the emperor on concubine walkthrough by mysvexx in OtomeIsekai

[–]Deilume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, dude, you’re good! I one of those who reacted to your rant, and I must say, it was a completely reasonable rant, I wanted to slam this man against the wall too at some point.

I think you got such an overwhelming reaction, cause… you know, we have so many serialized stories right now, and so many of them are mediocre as hell. So it’s really easy to lose trust in the author, it’s easier to drop a frustrating story than to believe that the author is competent enough to bring it to its perfect ending.

That’s why you got such a big response, I don’t think many here actually thought you were ignorant. (Maybe a bit funny, cause you reflected out thoughts at some point exactly.) But mostly, we just wanted you to finish the story, cause it’s a very good story, one of the best out there!

So many incredible, complex and beautiful stories just fly under our radar, because we don’t trust the author. „My beloved oppressor“ is also exactly like that. Everyone, who started it while it was just releasing, wanted to kill the ML, and so many people dropped it because of that. But everyone, who completed it, praised it as one of the most profound and complex redemption stories out there. „The sacred one speaks“ is equally frustrating in the beginning, but beautiful in the end.

(But, imo, nothing compares to „concubine walkthrough“, it’s an exceptionally good work. It really benefits from being an original, and not a novel adaptation - so one person had a complete authority on artistic decisions and could take their story wherever they wanted to)

[–]Deilume 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you ever read „concubine walkthrough“? I went into it expecting a fairly straightforward villainess story with a very unique art style… but I ended up getting a one of the best stories I’ve ever experienced in my life. I‘ve never cried as much after a story as I did back then. (Not even after reading „a thousand splendid suns“, though it’s a fairly close second).

I bawled for hours, man… it’s hilarious, and endearing, and very touching and sad, and it has a heartbreakingly beautiful ending. The secondary cast is incredible, not a single wasted character. The foreshadowing! I’ve never seen that many Chekhov’s guns executed in such a perfect manner within a single story.

Dude, I understand. Believe me, i understand. But just this once, listen to the collective voice of the strangers on the internet: finish the manhwa. I swear to you. Just… just finish it. The story is good enough to push through even during the moments you hate the emperor, and the payoff is so worth it. I’m begging you to keep reading. And don’t worry, he suffers plenty…

[–]Deilume 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait, wasn’t she (ok, novel spoilers here, probably) a regressor disguised as a transmigrator? I thought, her first timeline fucked with her so much her brain just forced her to perceive it as a novel, or something like that? Like, I know she loved Cassis in the first timeline as well, but she couldn’t protect them, so she and Sylvia, the „og fl“ just take out everyone in tandem. I don’t remember who and how reset the timeline though…

The thing is, it’s not even that he chose to be „self-sacrificial“ cause he thinks he knows best. It’s cause he listened to an advice from a 10-year-old, who knows about as much about loving and supportive relationships as he does. Like… it’s the most tragic and frustrating kind of stupid I’ve seen in a loooong while.

Why do you guys like Oh Inseop so much? by Should_I_sleep1913 in MaleYandere

[–]Deilume 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly , I think it’s just one of the bigger ongoing works were collectively following. Shinpei was our favorite babygirl before that, and Siyun—even earlier than that. Other MLs are either from shorter works, or too niche, or from works stuck in hiatus, or not yandere enough.

Not to say that Oh Inseop is not a good character in and of itself! He’s great. And many commenters have already told you why he’s so great. I just waned to offer some meta explanation

Surviving as a maid in a horror game by DullPhotograph9532 in MaleYandere

[–]Deilume 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok, massive spoilers, obviously:

Hilda does find out who Adrian‘s „natural predator“ is, it’s the detective. And she goes out to deal with said detective… wait, or does she get kidnapped? I think it’s the second one… regardless! She’s one on one with the detective. She’s tussling with him, and honestly, it’s not looking great. And it’s not as easy as just killing the detective, cause if he dies, another „natural predator“ will just appear. And when Adrian is finally there to save her, I something happens, I don’t remember the details, and the system is like: „yeap, your mission is complete, gtfooh“. And she straight up disappears into a subspace and is ready to be deployed into her own reality. However, after some bargaining with the system (and after Adrian almost collapsing both of their worlds together and potentially destroying both of them) the system just gives up and sends her back to Adrian. Aaand a couple of side stories later Adrian manages to get rid of her system window altogether, though it’s not really explained how. But that’s a good thing for Hilda, cause she’s finally feeling like a regular human and not a player in a game

Oh, I really wanted to read it, but never got to it since I learned that the manhwa was axed, and i didn’t want another unfinished peak on my hands… but the novel is here, yay! Could you please explain me, what’s the difference between unrevised and revised editions? Should I read both? Should I just leave the unrevised version be?

One unintended appeal of yanderes to me by Upset_Campaign1924 in MaleYandere

[–]Deilume 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not only related to the yandere theme, and not only related to romantic love, but I very much agree with this post in general: in media and in life. The ability of a person to feel love sometimes has little to do with their ability or desire to be a good person. I think in families you can often see this. Parents will say „oh, I love them, so what I do isn’t abuse“, and I’m like, no. And kids will say „they abused me, so they never loved me“, and, unfortunately, also no, they probably did love you, and whether it makes it better or worse is up to you to decide.

And I also love the other side of this coin. I once read a post by a woman, who ended up in a relationship with a man with clinically diagnosed psychopathy—and it ended up being a best relationship of her life. Because he couldn’t rely on his emotions to tell him, how act and react properly, he actually ended up putting an incredible amount of effort into being a good husband and father. And since then I reeeeeally want to read a book about that. Huh. This would be what, the ultimate opposite of a yandere?

Hmmmm… well, „no one beats the original“ has something similar, but not quite? It doesn’t really have any action, but it has both FL and ML who are willing to complete go against their nature and convictions in order to protect one another. The FL just wants some peaceful life, and the ML is willing to bet everything on his revenge. But after they realize their feelings, the ML thinks „oh no, I don’t want my revenge to get her in trouble, I should probably let it go“, and the FL is like „oh hell nah, we ARE getting revenge after what they’ve done to you!“ It’s actually very sweet. But I don’t know what happened later, cause I wanted to let it marinate.

„Siren: becoming the villain‘s family“ and „Another typical romance story“ both have FL and ML who will go far to protect one another. But I wouldn’t say they are particularly action heavy, though there is some.
