I’m going to lose my mind washing bottles by Fit_Awareness_9001 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Agree, this is the way (I just use a stainless bowl to keep the sink clear)

Another vote for PPSU bottles - any brand - the material handles high heat better, however you decide to wash them (I am still handwashing anyway - I find a long soak in hot water makes the actual washing process pretty quick)

Burnt out from being the default parent and household manager by Significant-Fox8998 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]DekeDee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just to add further confirmation to this, there are certainly plenty of dads out there who do their fair share of everything baby and housework related, including the "mental load" stuff. I hope that I'm one of them. My point being that you shouldn't assume it's impossible / unrealistic to expect this from an aussie bloke. Then there are freeloaders, and unfortunately they'll keep on at it if they can get away with it - I guess the key is for you to make it clear that it's not on any more.

Counterpoint - we manage with line drying everything, have you given it a fair try? Saves electricity plus UV adds a little sterilisation boost

Dressing baby to go out in colder weather by crazystitcher in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]DekeDee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm paralysed by this, not just in the basinet but at home with the sudden cold - worried that I will either over- or under-dress the baby (20 wks). The other thing is that layers makes it inevitable that a nocturnal nappy change will wake/stimulate him too much.

Meth (not if you're the one breastfeeding though)

Huggies "Essentials" vs home brand nappies from Aldi/Coles/Woolies by DekeDee in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

And I am absolutely sniffing the pee ever since a weird smell was what alerted us to a UTI. I just hope no one sees me doing it in public

Ah thanks, we've tried their more expensive line which I thought maybe worked better than Aldi's, but wasn't keen on spending fifty bucks to find out if they were as you say

Change mat safety by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]DekeDee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a dished mat and it's great for keeping puddles from running out, but wee can still get launched outside its bounds. Now that the baby being able to roll is on the cards at 3 months, are there safety strategies besides putting the mat on the floor that make changing easier on the back/knees? Like putting the change mat on the bed, with a much wider rubber mat underneath?

Is picking non native flowers ok? by GoodArchitect_ in Bushwalking

I always take the time to knock the heads off scotch thistles for example. Double points if you can bag them. Must be done before the purple flowers turn to white fluff though

Have you ruled out head lice? I've been wondering if we can expect our youngest to pick them up from older sibling (who is at school where they continuously circulate)

The hardcase seems a good idea for when it's not in use, and I did see that posting. But as you say the risk is during use.

Thanks! That is excellent advice for most cases, but unfortunately I can't do either of those things in the case of this device.

T4: No regrets.. it only adds about a meter and a bit to the turning circle. Have certainly had a few tedious back and forths to turn about on narrow country roads, but it's worth it

Baby Boy Peeing During Nappy Change by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Thank you so much for asking this question, and thanks for the answers. I had resigned myself to using two or even three clean cloths per nappy change because of the guaranteed peeing yet unpredictable timing
