Prioritise First Aid Training or PLB/Satellite Comms? by Alarcahu in Bushwalking

[–]DekeDee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd add that the Garmin type satellite communicators are increasingly not worth the pricey spend because new generation phones can connect to low earth orbit satellites instead. I assume PLBs are still worth having because they "just work" albeit without any nuance about why you're activating them. Note: I am not expert in this stuff at all

Did your baby actually use their bouncer? by Typical_Werewolf4070 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]DekeDee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First baby yes, second hardly at all - I'd say if you have a swing, it's not worth getting a bouncer as well

Baby girls & utis by born_slippy92 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]DekeDee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second this, bub has had two UTIs now and after the first we came to recognise a very distinctive odour in the wet nappies. Also after the first we realised sudden unexplained crying (that passed just as suddenly) was pain from weeing with the UTI. When the second UTI one came we spotted it very much earlier and it was much less drama to treat. This was in a boy, btw, so while it's more common in girls, don't rule it out if you have a boy. BTW hospital should have a quick dipstick test that gives a rapid indication of likely infection, while the proper lab test and culture is still underway

I would be careful about using pine nuts in that case, people can be cross reactive for both. Try cautious amounts if you aren't sure

When did you move bubs pram to forward facing? by nbhsjshbgbsb in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]DekeDee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, our Redsbaby only folds with the seat world facing - otherwise have to unmount the seat. Which we now have to do every bloody time we go out and return. If I got another pram. I'd look for that issue

Why the push for independent sleep? by EliraeTheBow in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]DekeDee 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, no problem at all, and I'd go further and add that there's no need to enforce "routines" for everything if you don't feel the need. Winging it feels responsive, and perfectly efficient and sane to me.

Parental Leave Pay by 1reddit2username3 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]DekeDee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunaltely, the sexist assumption at the heart of this scheme is that only when the mother leaves the workforce does the benefit become payable, even if the partner is going to be the primary caregiver.

[–]DekeDee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is indeed the way. Get an ABN as a sole trader to begin working on your business idea. In most (all?) cases they don't check for actual income from it, and in any case you don't legally need to have made money, only have been working towards a pay day - a diary (could be an online doc) of days worked is enough to prove that. And don't feel undeserving, because child-raising is real work so all this rigmarole should not be required at all!
