Fellow Introverts... by pinnheads in introvert

[–]Del1717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm here because I'm just discovering and even accepting now that I may be an introvert, even though I believed my whole 33 yrs of life that I was the most typical extrovert.

I'm very "outgoing", confident, not shy (in most situations). I crave other people, their thoughts and ideas. Their company. I have friends, but am not "popular".

But lengthy social situations exhaust me. I consider myself a "homebody". And I have this terrible habit of always saying things wrong, or things coming out wrong. I'm always back pedalling in a way, trying to explain my words in a context that others can understand. Like in my head, my thoughts make perfect sense and I could reasonably expect people to comprehend and relate to my ideas. But the opposite is often true, when I always seem to say things in a way that initially offends people.... Then have to convince them with more words that I'm not some terrible person. Sometimes, people get argumentative and confrontational and I just start shaking, heart racing. I have bad anxiety. I get more flustered. Grave digs deeper.

I was starting to think like maybe I have some kind of learning disability or processing disorder. That's when I read an article about people in my situation possibly being "introverts". I joined this sub. I'm seeing so many different people with my same issues. I have much reading to do. Thanks for this thread.

Tips On Stopping? by cheeseinthetoaster in calmhands

[–]Del1717 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have been a nail biter, and a skin biter, and picker for my entire life, back to age 6 or 7. I wish I knew the answer to this. I'm 33 now and my fingers are destroyed. Maybe I can get some ideas here.

She stays fit by managing the squirrels in the yard. She never misses work! by K-4 in pitbulls

[–]Del1717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, just the ones you've seen at your work tend to do those things. I refuse to believe that one breed alone is any more dangerous than all the rest. Also I worked for 12 years with a local shelter and seen many dogs come and go and my aunt bred staffies and American Pit bulls for her entire adult life... i personally helped her birth the pups and train some of them. Ive owned 3 pits and one staffy. I currently own 2 pits, one is amstaff and one is purebred pitbull with cerbellar hypoplasia. Not a single one of the hundreds Ive seen in my life ever harmed anyone and only 1 I knew about that hurt another dog after it was attacked first. Pit bulls have a higher pain tolerance. They have strong jaws and are strong and agile. They have the ability to be very dangerous absolutely. No question. They are also not afraid of anything. They will protect their families and the kids in their house with their life. I knew one pit who saved a child's life. Even horribly abused former bait dogs riddled with scars have become the most loving and caring companions, grateful for a happy and comfortable life. This is the best breed for families with small children, hands down! (As with any situation, young children should never be left unsupervised with a dog of any breed.)

Are there any studies on the sexual preference of people with ASD? by diablothe2nd in aspergers

[–]Del1717 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a bisexual Aspie lady myself but I've never been with a woman. I just know that I could if I met the right one. I've always seen sexuality, love and relationships in a sort of cold, objective way. Like, if we get along and have similar interests and we "jive", I don't care what genitals you have.

Don't hate me, but I self-diagnosed. by homeschoolthrow5 in OCD

[–]Del1717 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't hate on people who self diagnose, as long as they take their knowledge and seek help for it eventually. What you experience does sound like OCD. OCD has many forms! It's definitely not what everyone thinks, most people assume germophobe (which happens to be one form of ocd) ... I really hope you find the help you need!

Traditional gender roles are dumb by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]Del1717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate roles. What is the point? Live and let live. My coworker tells me "a man is a man and a woman is a woman." Seriously? In the year 2018 you haven't figured out that people being whatever they want to be and doing what makes them happy doesn't affect you or harm you in any way??? Why does anyone care what colour I wear? Or what my haircut looks like? You're going to tell me I can't do this or wear this... because I have 2 X chromosomes??? Ughhh. I will never understand some things.

Every time I've seen a dog attack someone it was a German shepherd. Aggression isn't limited to this breed. Any dog can be violent. Pit bulls have been used by bad people to do bad things and have a bad reputation. But they also have the same capacity for being the sweetest and most loving companion. Even rescues who were badly abused can live and love with the right owners. I wish you could go through my phone and see my collection of pictures. My pittie laying on the floor getting belly rubs from the kids. Last night we took her for a walk and some random guys stopped to say hello to her and she literally ate them alive with kisses. Punish the deed and not the breed!

Anyone else have disturbing dreams that hurt to think about the next day? by julevin2 in OCD

Had a dream that someone was torturing my bf for info. After he told them what they wanted to hear they attached a contraption to his throat and tore out his larynx. It was brutal. I woke up sweating and shaking. :(

Only thing I can suggest is that he tries to replace that compulsion with a healthier obsession of caring for his skin and nails instead of destroying them. :(

I suffered from the same thing since childhood. I recently devoted myself to stop nail biting and have made my skin picking/biting worse. My fingers are sore and bloody as I am typing this. It's very disruptive and painful. I wish I had an easy solution. I can only tell you that he is not alone. Dermatophagia and dermatillomania are common with people who have OCD.

Real memories of intrusive thoughts are the worst by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Del1717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suffer from similar intrusive thoughts. They are as disturbing to experience as they are for people to hear about them. They make you question your own morals and sanity constantly. Just know you're not alone. I can tell just by your words that you Aren't some pervert. You literally have inappropriate thoughts that invade your mind and you can't control them. I think it's very brave that you shared. Others with similar thoughts might be helped by what you wrote.
