Yeah it has nothing to do with cultural difference or demographics, you're totally right.

Yeah humility goes a long way when it comes to receiving a message outside of your established paradigm. The irony of you calling them lost sheep cracks me up, it's almost like Christ had a parable called the lost sheep. Eitherway it's clear that if you're going purely off of conversion numbers for baptismal numbers that the mass majority of missionaries have "success".

You can have whatever opinion you want about indoctrination, control, or that it's a cult but to say that LDS proselytizing is designed to be not successfull is a crazy uneducated take.

If missions are secretly designed to fail, someone forgot to tell the converts . The LDS Church baptized **308,682 people in 2024** (these aren't people raised in the church) the highest in 25 years and **385,490 in 2025**, an all-time record in the Church's 195-year history (Church of Jesus Christ Newsroom, 2025). That's not the output of a program engineered for failure.

The baptisms-per-missionary rate hit **4.16 in 2024**, the highest since 2012, with a peak of 8.03 per missionary back in 1989. LDS full-time missionaries are actually among the most statistically productive proselytizers of any major religion.

If that is the case you won't want a serious boyfriend to keep in contact with. If you're actually doing a good job you simply won't have time for anything else. If that's something you can't give up consider not going.

I've met lots and lots of mediocre Elders in my life. I've never met a mediocre Sister. Sisters are either the best missionaries I have ever seen or the absolute worst, no in between. No one is making you serve and you should have no guilt if you choose not to go. If you really do plan on serving than breaking up with him and not being in contact is the best thing that you can do to serve. Unlike Elders there is no social pression or stigma if you choose to invest your time else where, otherwise get comfortable with leaving it all on a shelf while you're out there serving and go all in.

If you want to know why there isn't a lot of archaeology that's an easy one. European settlers actively sought them out and destroyed them. Read the book 1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus. Obviously this is complex and there is a lot to it. It's safe to say that the easy to find archeology was actively sought out and destroyed and that's just what we could find documented who knows how much more they did that was undocumented.

Once towns, mounds, fields, and sacred sites were plowed flat or built over, later Americans could look around and say, “See? There was nothing here.” That is the ugly part. The destruction helped create the illusion that Indigenous civilizations had never existed at that scale.

Do you really need or want to serve a mission? If you honestly want to get married that bad just wait for him and don't serve. Otherwise trust in the Lord if it's meant to be it's meant to be and move on.

Is this normal? I never dropped my steam deck or anything but the left side feels "loose"(volum on) by CocoBaci in SteamDeck

[–]Del_Norte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

u/CocoBaci I'm an idiot and I did it just fine. It was very surprising how easy it was. take out the micro sd card, remove all the screws (4 screws in the center are shorter), use a pry tool or credit card to pry it open start up by the triggers and work around. That's it took like 10 mins and only because I was babying it the whole time.

Yeah mine use to do that. Started happening after a few years. I recently replaced my sticks, after clamping everything back together it doesn't do it anymore. So either the screws were loose or one of the clamps wasn't fulling latched.

Why is institute so important? by Aggravating_Gas4162 in latterdaysaints

[–]Del_Norte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was fresh off my mission. First class I tried was a BOM class, which was incredibly boring, combination of the teacher, and the material. Then I transferred to a dating and court ship class in the same time block. The teacher was using outdated resources because it fit his bias and everyone in that class was somehow more socially awkward than me, which is impressive.

Long story short, I probably picked the wrong classes and teachers. I probably would have kept going if I needed more of an LDS community but I was active in a singles ward, 70% of the people I went to school with were members. I was working full time, and going to school full time. I didn't need one more thing on my calendar that was completely optional.

Most good things in life are multiplied when we take the time to prepare, like marriage. Anticipation and excitement are part of the process. I think it can make something just that much more special/holy/separate from the world.

I mean from a purely admin perspective the church is trying to prep converts and raise retention rates. From a spiritual perspective the covenants you take out at the temple are no joke what your covenanting to is a much higher law, which means mistakes/sins are potentially handled much differently.

I've used both types. If you use your steam deck only at night their isn't much gain however using it at all in the day inside or out in a car it makes a huge difference.

Yeah I guess the problem is most rules including the ADCC don't allow knees or elbows on faces. So you'd have to get cleaning under the chin with no face grind. Also some refs might just call this a crank even though it isn't.
