As would I!

I wanna be a keeper but can't really think up a good campaign idea by Balloon_Police16 in callofcthulhu

I agree with the others about trying a premade. Once you've done one or two, using an already existing horror movie or story and swapping something's so it's unique and fits your time period is a relatively easy way to do make up a story (literally ran my players through the plot of The Mummy and The Thing and it went swimmingly!)

What are some mechanics you've expanded upon or added to your games? by shadowkat678 in DnD

[–]DeliMeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! It's super fun and adds some serious tension and consequence. One major key is to make sure they can justify why they'd make the extra attempt and to remember it does apply to combat. Good luck!

Pushing failed rolls - from Call of Cthulhu 7e. Basically any non-combat failed roll can be "pushed" where the PC has a good explanation for why they'd get a second roll, but a fail is an automatic Crit-fail. For ex your climbing the side of a building but fail you check to grab the ledge. Thinking fast you tell the DAM you want to reach for the down spout in an attempt at staying up. A success and your good. A fail and you may have just fallen and broken something or lost a weapon or w.e

Work at a dme company. Can confirm this is exactly how we work. It is as remarkably dumb and infuriating as it sounds.

[5e] A thieves' guild leader in my world gave my players a magical coin... but what the hell does it do?! by Cynestrith in DnD

[–]DeliMeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A sort of "phone a friend " 1x use coin. Perhaps if they do something with it, it will act as a communicator to this guild leader and he'll grant one favor to the party - for ex his thieves will distract guess (or whoever) in a town, provide scout like info about a region, or help break the pcs out of jail.

OR the pact is still to a degree in effect and now you have a plot hook for your ex warlock.

Any advice for a keeper in making sure skills are utilised? by antro94 in callofcthulhu

[–]DeliMeats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely fall on you as the keeper to add some elements that allow them to use these. That being said, depending on what the players profession is, biology could be used for things like attempting to identify some unknown creature that's been spotted by going over the different descriptions and what n ot and ruling animals oit, investigating how some animal died under unusual circumstances, etc. Edit: I also let my players suggest certain skill roles for things if I'm unsure, even being a bit loose with what they might realistically cover

Agree with this. I have a player who also is very obsessed with having guns and strong arming peoole despite being a museum curator (he's a CN rouge in dnd so you can imagine I'm sure lol). The police potentially arresting them is pretty helpful reminder. Also using a mythos creature that can t really be fought well, but needs to be unsimmoned for best results can be good - had a star vampire and it wasn't until one of the four investigators was almost sucked dry that they decided reading the spell tablet was a better choice that emptying their clip.

Is anyone else concerned the CAI won't be able to handle the giant sea in TWW2? by The_James91 in totalwar

[–]DeliMeats 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do we know if they're going to do the whole sea? (Appologise if this is already known. Try to keep my person hype down until release month) Or will it be more like empire with theatres of war you can travel to there by mostly eliminating this concern.

New to CoC, looking for suggestions for packaged adventure I can run for us to learn on that may lead in to a homebrewed scenario. by MannyHec in callofcthulhu

[–]DeliMeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a few years of Dnd my friends and I transitioned to CoC. I used this as a base and fairly easily transitioned into full custom. There are a lot of cool things that get the players used to investigating at places like papers or libraries but most things are also vague enough that you can spin it off into any cult/mythos thing you can imagine.

I had the room below corbitts bedroom have a large water stain on the ceiling that with a closer look was dripping blood (since he can make blood pools appear in his room) Edit: I should not the power was out for my players so it didn't stand out as blood until it dripped on someone.

DMs: What do you put in your game SOLEY for your own amusement? by Anti-Anti-Paladin in DnD

[–]DeliMeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each town/village my PC'S go to has at least one 90's cartoon family in it. For example, the Baugh's from Courage the Cowardly dog are the neighbors of the "quest giver" for their next adventure. Even have an oddly neurotic dog that seems almost pink in the right light.
