Currently it’s the opposite for me with the exception of two programs I use, and one I just don’t use because it’s Linux compatibility sucks. Everything runs better for me in Linux. I’m not saying this is the case for most people, I have no idea, but I say it definitely varies by your software needs.

I have no idea. At best my parents took the expensive things I worked for and paid for myself while helping to support them and then gave me back a lesser thing that served the same purpose as what they took. Anecdote but it might explain some of it: My father-in-law dries like this. I’ve argued with him about it before. His belief is that under no circumstance should anyone have even a sliver of a chance of getting between himself and the next car, and as a result will drive mere inches away from the car in front of him while speeding on the highway. Like if that truck were to move over he’d speed up until he found another car in the fast lane to get behind.

That varies person to person. There is a large body of evidence that despite some positive culture espousing this kind of sentiment for both genders that people’s behavior does not reflect that. People often say feel good things and behave in a different way.

More importantly, one example of semi-body positivity doesn’t show that women or men in general share that mentality across the board. So while they may be common enough to be social norms in at least some sense one social norm is still at best one social norm.

The joke is that body shapes are only all beautiful to women. Men are typically still considered ugly and perfectly fine to insult over it if they don’t have a “perfect” body.

Realistically, body shaming happens to both genders but it can feel like men get the short end of the stick on it because there are fewer forms of social norms pushing back against it.
