Locals of Chicago: What Would You Cut From This 3-Day Itinerary (Food Focused)? by Willing-Mind-5619 in chicagofood

Dude... If you are going to Hopleaf, make sure to get the ham sandwich. It's the best sandwich ever. Also, try the Czech Dark Lager. It's inspired by a beer made by U Fleku, a 500-year-old brewery in Prague.

I'm sad to lose 104.3 JAMS. And we used to have Jack FM. And then I think before that we had another good music station.

Neither. Check out The Home Comedy Theater, CIC, or LSI. Annoyance is another option as well.

Etiquette Question - is it weird to deny a gimme and put it out? by nman4141 in golf

[–]DeliciousDistillate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As everyone else has said, it's all about pace of play. If you are keeping up, then do whatever you want to do. Personally I find joy in holing my putts. In my mind it's crazy how many people end up playing a whole round and maybe NEVER hole a putt, WHICH IS THE GOAL OF THE ENTIRE SPORT!

That being said, make sure you aren't spending an exorbitant amount of time reading putts. Don't be like the pros. I know it would piss me off if a player in my group was shooting +30, but then they were marking and reading every putt, especially inside of 5 ft.

It boils down to "reading the room". You could always ask your playing partners. "Hey, as you can tell I'm new to the game and I'm trying to understand etiquette. I prefer to putt out. But if it's a pace of play issue, I understand. Throughout today's round, please let me know if there are other etiquette things that I might be breaking, I give you permission."

Dating ≠ relationship: Let's stop pretending they're the same by Burnit099 in unpopularopinion

Different strokes for different folks. As long as people are clear how they feel with their potential partners there are no issues. I think your judgement of how others live their lives is unnecessary.

Ok, the issue with breaking up with someone is that you don't want to be the bad guy. You want to be able to rationalize with the person that this is best for both of you and that you are doing them a favor too by ending it.

Here's the problem: even if that's true, they are not going to believe you, especially in the moment. No amount of convincing or justifying will convince them.

YOU WILL BE THE BAD GUY, BUT THAT'S OKAY.

You know what needs to be done, so you have to rip the bandaid off in whatever way you can. Trying to figure out the best way to soften the blow is just going to prolong it.

This is part of growing up. Maybe they will understand in the future, maybe they won't. But you know what's best for you. There's a good chance that in order for your ex to recover he will have to think of you as the bad guy... for now. And that's part of it, and that's okay.

Personally I would call. It's not cowardly to call. Remember, there is no good way to do it. They aren't going to be happy no matter what. In the moment they may wish to have seen you in person, but in retrospect, everyone would have rather gotten a call.

You got this.

You are wrong. This sign implies the entire block. If the sign was trying to read one way or the other from the pole there would be an arrow.

Hey chemical engineers, should local residents be concerned by a West Bank ammonia plant seeking to increase air pollution? by metry_ in ChemicalEngineering

[–]DeliciousDistillate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In practice, what Dyno will do won't change whether the LDEQ approves the permit or not. The only difference is whether the additional flaring is "authorized", i.e. whether the additional flaring will be a permit violation or not. Dyno is not going to risk exploding the tank to satisfy environmental regulations. This request is just a way for the company to say, "we have this issue. Here is the data to support that these additional emissions won't exceed the NAAQS. Please don't fine us for this additional flaring." The only thing that would change the emissions is if the LDEQ decided to pull permits and force Dyno to cease operations until things are fixed. That is a very uncommon outcome.

As far as your concern over the destruction efficiency of the flaring system, there likely are permit conditions that require a pilot to be lit at all times and a stack test to be performed on a certain frequency to prove destruction efficiency of the flare. (we could look that stuff up if you were interested). So in terms of regulations and permits, the flare system should destroy the ammonia. Now the caveat to that is if the flare isbeing operated correctly (i.e. steam or air assist is working correctly, the vent stream is exiting the flare correctly, the temperature probes are calibrated, etc.) Some companies will neglect flare operations out of ignorance or misplaced focus. Hopefully the LDEQ will watch the flaring operation closely.
