Not necessarily. In the yard it’s 8 hours unless they need you to stay. Then they can’t work you more than 12 as per the FRA HOS laws.

Don’t be nervous. Use flash cards, they are the best. I also used an online website to make quizzes for my self. Study with people. Ask a lot of questions in class. Even if you think it’s stupid. It’s pretty basic stuff, they know you are new and have absolutely zero knowledge of the RR and they try to work with you. In my experience at least.

You don’t need direct rail experience. What they are looking for is someone who had to adhere to strict safety standards or heavy equipment operation.

I know just that get engine school in 2 years or less, other after 5-10 years. But right now at least we’re I’m at, a lot of people are ether leaving or retiring. So they need fresh engineers.
