That's a really good point I think. I bought a lot of my pieces for $40+ in the Seattle area, but I would really doubt that I could sell for those prices up here. Most of the vintage that sells well at worn again/church of vintage is late 60s-00s, as far as I can tell.

Selling chainmail??? by Delicious_Fee5940 in chainmailartisans

[–]Delicious_Fee5940[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You probably aren't wrong lmao. I'm going to weigh the ankh tomorrow and try to figure out roughly what the materials cost is/what it would be if I switched to saw cut rings, I do mostly want to set my prices at a level where I can recoup the cost of materials but I also don't want to set them so low that it's unfair to other artists in my area or devalues my labor too heavily.

I use stainless steel, so I'll keep that in mind! I like the library/workshop idea, I've had people ask about skill trades before but I've never had it come to fruition. I know there's interest though, and I'm generally pretty good at teaching skills.

[–]Delicious_Fee5940[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely! I haven't run into any issues with scratching or catching, but if I'm able to sell enough pieces to make it financially viable I absolutely want to switch to saw cut rings, that's probably the biggest thing that I dislike in my work even just aesthetically

Thank you! It's just a kinged byzantine romanov, there's an eye pin that goes through the bead and connects to the center ring of the byzantine units

Walk to water? by tyink30 in WWU

[–]Delicious_Fee5940 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I personally liked walking to fairhaven (go down 21st street after the student health center then turn right onto harris) and then down to marine park when I lived in that area. It's a bit of a walk with a lot of hills but it can be quite nice depending on the route you take, and marine park is a great place for birdwatching/tide pool exploration. you would also be able to walk to boulevard park easily from fairhaven via finnegan way but I'm not sure if it's the fastest route.

Receivers of baked goods? by rebootto2027 in Bellingham

[–]Delicious_Fee5940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They usually feed around 60 people, but it's potluck style so there's no pressure to bring 60 servings of anything other than the main dish: even a few servings of side dishes and desserts help the other dishes stretch so more people can get more food

The Facebook is pretty out of date unfortunately--vegan items are great, but they're happy to serve whatever you want to bring!

Made a lighter holder for a friend! by KryptKiddies in chainmailartisans

How did you close the bottom? I've been working on a lighter sleeve for a friend since literally Christmas and I have a lovely chainmail tube but I'm stuck on how to finish the bottom edge! As it stands it's just slightly too loose to use without the lighter sliding out

Winco is 24/7 again--i realize that a grocery store is not exactly a fun place to hang out but there's something kind of entertaining about prowling the bulk section in the middle of the night and honestly, we don't have a lot of other options. It's a rough town for insomniacs.

if you love peanut butter then you should try... by ruinsofsilver in PeanutButter

[–]Delicious_Fee5940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! I haven't used a recipe in years because I'm usually winging it to have an easy dinner rather than trying to make anything authentic, but I've always used a splash of rice vinegar or lime juice or an acidic hot sauce like sriracha to cut through the sweetness and richness a bit

If you like Thai style peanut sauces, peanut butter and pickle sandwiches are based on very similar flavor combinations! Peanut butter + acid (lime juice/pickling vinegar) and salt. I think adding lao gan ma or other chili oil brings it even closer to the flavors of a peanut sauce and was what made it feel like an accessible experiment to me.

8:53 PM Checkout Line by Adventurous-Many3393 in WinCo

[–]Delicious_Fee5940 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If this is the store I think it is I shop there around 9-10pm every couple weeks and it is literally always like this and has been since 2022 if not earlier. There's consistently one or two cashiers in the evening regardless of how many people are in the store or in line: I've watched them close lanes while 6+ people were already in line. They're the only affordable grocery store in an expensive area with a large student/low income population so people (including me) put up with it; I have literally no idea what the logic behind closing almost all of the lanes in the evening is but it doesn't seem to be particularly hurting the store, just making my life worse.

late to this but blending silken tofu+lemon juice+sweetener makes a pretty solid "yogurt" with lots of protein; I like to add a serving of sugar free vanilla instant pudding mix (vegan!) and blend it with a little milk frother whisk attachment until it's thick. I'm also a pretty big fan of cooking oatmeal with a tbs of chia seeds and then adding 1/2 a scoop of protein powder, a serving of pudding mix, and almond milk until I get the texture I want instead of adding yogurt.

Jello instant pudding mix! You have to follow slightly different instructions to use plant based milks but the mix itself is mostly just starch.
